Best

I never ever ever write reviews but I had to for The Hideout. I stumbled upon this place by shear luck- i was searching places to go for my 23rd bday on citysearch and out of nowh...

Worst

Saw the high user rating on city search, and the Hideout webpage stating that Wednesdays were 1/2 price (beers & well drinks) days, so some friends and I decided to check it out. ...

Good music 8/19/2006

The dj is great on Friday and there is no cover. The crowd is an interesting mix of beach people and club goers. It is small, dark, and a little sweaty so bring a scrunchy. :) more

don't expect fancy chichi, expect laidback simplicity 8/12/2006

given that there aren't too many happening spots in santa monica, or the westside for that matter, and after seeing the 9.4 rating by citysearch, i couldn't wait to check this place out. i finally got my chance last friday and although i was a little disappointed at the size of the place, i was pleased that there was no cover, the bartenders were friendly, and it didn't get uber-crowded like the clubs and lounges in hollywood. the dj spinned great music, mainly hip hop mixes from the 90's and 00's, and the crowd was really laidback and chill. my only complaint was the limited selection of high end alcohol and the decor. but the fact that i'm a girl and didn't have to wait to go totally won me over. more

Best Tacos on the Westside 7/11/2006

every Thursday they have FREE TACOS from 8-11pm and the place is awesome, they have a DJ and the tacos are so good you can't stop eating them, my friends and I have been going to taco thursdays for about a month now and recommend people to check it out, last thursday the dance floor was packed with some of the hottest girls I've ever seen on the westside, great times at the Hideout Pros: FREE TACOS EVERY THURSDAY 8PM, outdoor smoking patio and upstairs VIP room more

Super fun Fridays 4/16/2006

I have been at the Hideout the last three Fridays. The drinks are affordable amd the bartender, Dan, remembers what I drink. The DJ spins the best tunes, from 80s to modern day hip-hop, with a few old rock and disco tunes throw in. It is a late 20s, early 30s crowd. They have an upstairs area to retreat to and a patio if you are a smoker. I will continue going back, instead of waiting in line at some trendy high priced club and paying a steep cover charge. Pros: Great Tunes, Affordable Drinks, No Cover Charge more

PHENOMENAL ON FRIDAYS!!! 4/5/2006

Friday nights here are sooooo fun!!! The atmosphere is incredible (def best on the Westside by far!) and the DJ plays all the great hip hop songs from the early 90s. My girlfriends and I had such a great time there. Drins are not too expensive and dancing to great music. So much better than waiting in line in Hollywood to pay $20 at the door of some cheesy club. I will definitely be a regular here!!! more

The new hot spot! 2/2/2006

My friends and I went by last saturday after work, and had an absolutely amazing time! We had heard about the bar from other friends, and after mixed reviews decided to try it out, which I am really glad we did! The dj was amazing, spinning oldie's and new songs as well...the bar was filled with some great looking, and surprisingly social people, and the best part was that the drinks were very reasonably priced for LA. We were dancing up a storm, and the bartenders were quick with drinks as well. Seriously, this bar is a great local hangout, as well as a relief from the hollywood scene. Great service, great people, great music....you can't go wrong, and we are heading there again this saturday. They were telling us about tuesdays too, and rumor has it its a great after work cocktail bar as well. Pros: Great Music, Crowded, Guaranteed good time more

the secret is out!!! 1/30/2006

My girlfriends and I went to The Hideout the last 2 Saturday nights and the place had lines to get in both weekends. Once inside it's so much fun because it's 80's night and everyone is dancing, drinking and just letting loose. The place is unlike any bar on the Westside. There's NO COVER CHARGE, an awesome dance floor lined with couches that seem to always be packed with girls dancing on them and enjoing bottle service. It's like a cool Hollywood club without the attitude and $20 cover. The only problem now is that it seems the word is out and everyone knows about The Hideout. We also heard that they have an awesome Karaoke night on Tuesday's. Pros: no cover, great dance floor, good looking guys more

Eh 1/28/2006

This bar disappointed me. I had read some great things about it, but nothing I read seemed true. The drinks were really pricey (each being between $10 and $12), the music was terrible (it was supposed to be 80s night since it was a Saturday, but they played bad trance the entire night), and it was so crowded it took me forever to even make it over to the bar. The one good thing was the back patio, albeit it overcrowded. I liked the couches and the heaters kept things warm. Pros: Heated patio Cons: Overpriced, Too crowded, Bad Music more

Not enough people~! 1/23/2006

My bf and I went there last Wednesday around 7pm for Happy Hour, and there was absolutely nobody there. They were sweeping the floor. Also, a friend of mine went on a Friday night and said that barely anybody showed up until 10pm, and martinis are $12!! I love the location and the bar itself, but it doesn't seem like it's caught on yet. Plus, $12 for a martini is ridiculous. I'll wait until the crowd improves.. Pros: Cool interior, Close to beach Cons: Not crowded enough more

The LA Times was right 11/11/2005

I read the great review the LA Times did on the hideout about a month ago and decided to check it out last Saturday night. First of all there was no cover charge which is VERY unusual in this day and age, the DJ was spinning 80's music and the dance floor was crowded. The vibe of the place was great, very low light, a smoking patio with couches to sit on and the drink prices were reasonable. We were also suprised in the amount of good looking people and the fact that no one had any attitudes, people were there to truly have fun. I recommend everyone check this place out on a Saturday night! Pros: no cover, patio, atmosphere more

Best lounge/bar in the westside 11/7/2005

When I first came to the Hideout, it reminded me of Liquid Kitty, except, its a little brighter and bigger. This place is tucked away near PCH next to a celebrity haunt, Giorgio Di Baldi. When I went there on a Saturday night, the place was hopping, good DJs playing house and hip hop (even a little 80s), I even saw Sean Penn walking around and Keanu Reeves with a gaggle of females. The best part about this place is the drinks, the bartenders are good, plus the drinks aren't expensive, compared to most westside bars (no drinks over 8). The people are pretty laid back too, none of the pretentious hollywood bs that you get from most westside places. You'll either like this place or you dont...dont expect this place to be packed during the week. Pros: Cheap drinks, Good looking people, good bartenders more

Totally Cool Place. 11/2/2005

This Bar is sooo fun. It's not overly crowded like most of the clubs and bars on the westside. My boyfriend and I went there on our anniversary and we had a lot of fun. We were able to dance and just have fun. I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends. Pros: Not Crowded, Good People , Great location more

Positive Reviewers Must Be Getting Paid by Owner 10/29/2005

After reading such positive reviews recently, I decided to bring a very special lady in my life to the Hideout for what we thought would be a night of fun and romance. (She loves dancing and we had a great time the week before at Harvelle's on 4th Street). We couldn't believe that after we had the valet take our car this place was almost empty!!! A few people were drinking at the bar, but not a soul was in the area set aside for dancing. There are about six sofas with tables on which to set drinks. The online ad and reviews are completely misleading. We would never go back or recommend this place to anyone. Pros: nice location, sofas are nice, lots of privacy!!! Cons: totally dead on Thurs, disappointing, no body goes here more

this place has very few customers 10/29/2005

We love to dance and from the reviews, we THOUGHT the Hideout would be fun last Thursday night. We were so disappointed. We arrived fashionably late after having dinner and drinks at Moonshadows. There was NO ONE in the dance floor area...just empty sofas. 6-8 drinkers were at the bar. We had paid the valet so we stayed and had a drink thinking maybe it would begin to live up to it's hot reputation from the so called reviewers. Luckily we enjoy each other's company. We could have "done" just about anything because only two other couples came in during the hour and half we were there. Finally around 11PM we left. Unless this place came to life after that, it is NOT the hot spot they want you to think it is. Save your valet money and go to some other place if you really want to have fun. Pros: lots of room to dance, no other dancers, lots of room to sit Cons: no body there hardly, empty on Thurs night, had to pay valet more

What a great place with friendly people 10/11/2005

I have been to alot of places in LA and had a great time at most of them. I went to the Hideout last Thursday night and had the best time of my life. It was not to crowded but the people were fun, the music was great, and the bartender was very attentive, funny, and VERRRRY HOT!!! My girls and I danced to 80's/ Rock and hip hop, and hung out on the patio enjoying the beautiful night. I will be there every Thursday night. more

Ladies this is a must see! 9/20/2005

One of my girlfriends had her birthday party there on Saturday night and the place was super cool yet simple. The bar was lit with candle light and even had purse hooks which my friends and I loved. We danced all night to the 80's dj and the drinks were very cheap. The pool table upstairs and the outdoor smoking patio with couches and tables makes the place feel very warm and sexy. There were also had plenty of good looking people and the best part was no cover charge. We'll be back soon. Pros: no cover, dance floor, cute guys more

finally !! a Lounge where you can lounge ! 9/11/2005

A great place to relax, enjoy excellent drinks, casual people having a great time - no pressures to constantly buy drinks, no pressure period !! my friends really appreciate the smoking area. It's all good ! more

See you on Thursday 9/6/2005

Fabulous!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great location in Santa Monica Canyon. Very dark inside with candles lighting up the place. Smoking patio tops it all off. Great selection of drinks, excellent martini's and the Thursday night bartender is the greatest. He made the night so much fun and happening!! Me and my girls danced to 80's, rockn roll, and a little hip hop. A very good mixture of music. We will be back tomorrow more

  • With a curved entrance and simple neon cocktails sign, this airy cocktail hangout is a fun hideout for the local WeHo crowd. Swaying curtains separate the nautically themed bar area from the main lounge, which is decorated with images of Santa Monica in the '20s. The second floor features a loft and an overlook to the low-back-chair-filled rear patio. A now predominantly straight crowd ranges from flip-flop-wearing canyon dwellers to nearby restaurant patrons dropping in for weekend DJs and neighborhood gossip.
