If the typical belligerent, underage college bar is your gig, The Globe is not for you. A bar boasting a wide selection of wine and heady beer, the inside has cozy couches, dim lighting, and trendy European pub-like ambience. The food is usually mediocre, except for the antipasto platter with olives, cheeses, and an array of Mediterranean snacks that is truly tasty (and probably the most inexpensive menu item). I limit my opinions to after dark as I haven?t been during the day, but I?ve heard they offer a few heartier meals like meatloaf, burgers, and chicken sandwiches as well. The conversation is definitely a high point if you enjoy philosophy or literature, but the crowd lacks the college humor found in most other downtown bars. So for cheap food and beer, travel elsewhere; but if an after-work brew and bit of conversation is more appealing, check ?em out!
Pros: large beer and wine selection and great conversation
Cons: average food and a bit expensive
