Worst

I've never been ignored in a restaurant for so long. Why even be open if you aren't going to serve anyone. Total waste of time. Food was decent but definitely not worth it.

I was told by another visitor what a wonderful place this was and unfortunately I took a group of business associates from out of town. We arrived at 4:51, it took ten minutes before anyone even came to get our drink orders .They also cannot handle big groups (we were a group of 6)they place a table right I front of the door and every time someone came in the arctic air came in along with it right on us. By the time the food arrived at 6:07 we were one dinner short. The waiter kept apologizing (over a hamburger I might add) that it would be ready soon. Everyone else in the party of 6 was finishing their meal and this one lady still had not been served. We asked to speak to the manager and was told that he was not there. Someone in our party called only to find out that the manager was really there and was refusing to help us. He finally came to our table and told us that he really wasn't the manager (even though he claimed to be on the phone) and that he just answered the phone. I was really looking forward to a nice evening in Athens instead I was met with insult upon insult. I still can't understand for instance why I was served my burger before her. She ordered before I did. The only tip I can offer is beware. more

What is wrong with people 4/16/2012

Cheese, Wine, and Intelligent Conversation 8/5/2008

If the typical belligerent, underage college bar is your gig, The Globe is not for you. A bar boasting a wide selection of wine and heady beer, the inside has cozy couches, dim lighting, and trendy European pub-like ambience. The food is usually mediocre, except for the antipasto platter with olives, cheeses, and an array of Mediterranean snacks that is truly tasty (and probably the most inexpensive menu item). I limit my opinions to after dark as I haven?t been during the day, but I?ve heard they offer a few heartier meals like meatloaf, burgers, and chicken sandwiches as well. The conversation is definitely a high point if you enjoy philosophy or literature, but the crowd lacks the college humor found in most other downtown bars. So for cheap food and beer, travel elsewhere; but if an after-work brew and bit of conversation is more appealing, check ?em out! delicious cheese, drunk grad students 2/12/2008

The Globe always smells like someone is making sausage or smoking a pile of wood chips or something. The food gets a 6/10, although one time when I was sick I made my boyfriend circle the block while I got some soup from them, so it was either good, or there was dayquil in it. They have a great beer and wine selection, but you have to tolerate being ""people watched"" by old academic types. \r \r The couches are comfortable and it's always dark inside. Also! Oh! They have a cheese + fruit platter for like, 9 dollars or so AND IT IS DELICIOUS AND WORTH THE NINE DOLLARS. Which is why I wrote this review. Pros: I met my husband there. Cons: Smells like a midevil shoppe. more

Great Food, terrible service 6/8/2007

The food at The Globe is excellent, probably some of the best of downtown Athens. Burgers are great and the Wednesday meatloaf and veggies special is to die for. Unfortunately the daytime wait staff is mostly horrible. Bartenders and night time wait staff do a much better job, but if you go there for lunch, go ahead and expect to wait a long time and have your order screwed up by the waitress. I have only had three of the waitresses there during the day, no waiters, and all of them were bad. Large parties seem to get more service than one or two-person tables. Overall, it's worth it for the great food if you have the time to wait and you make your server read the order back to you before turning it in to the kitchen. Pros: Excellent food; Meatloaf and veggie special on Wednesdays; great steaks and burgers Cons: Terrible daytime waitresses, who seem to be in another world more

Euro Feel 10/8/2002

This pub has a definate sophisticated European feel. It's a great place to meet friends after work or class for great beer and drinks. The cheese and olives at happy hour is a nice touch. Its a nice refuge from the typical college hangouts downtown. Offers an excellent opportunity for people watching too.
