Decent Thai Food 3/27/2010

My girlfriend had the restaurant com certificate ($25 for $2 I believe) with a minimum order of $35 so we came in without much expectation but figured it’d be a good deal. The $12 for 3 appetizer deal was a great sampler and I have to say that I really liked the house dumplings and Thai wings (both of which I’m usually very critical of). For entrees, we had the $9 Panang curry with chicken, which was just ordinary and not particularly bursting with flavors. The $12 Pad See Ew (broad flat noodles, aka drunken noodles) tasted better. When we got the bill, a 20% tip was already added (which we didn’t expect), so we each wound up paying about $9. For the amount of food we had, it was pretty good. But considering that it would have been about $20 without the certificate, I don’t think I would return, since I can get way better Thai at Pam’s in Midtown West! Pros: Restarant com coupons make this a good deal Cons: Just ok thai food without coupon more

Thailand Cafe on Clinton 6/4/2009

Thailand Cafe on Clinton is an exquisite gem. My date and I had the special seafood spring roll this week. They were delicious. The Thai server told me that these were new. My partner had the bikini shrimp- which were perfectly cooked. I had the Kee Mao- delicious. The most wonderful Kee Mao in New York City. Especially noteworthy was the mixture of Thai basil, broad rice noodles, chili... My partner had the Tamarind Duck- a roasted half duck with tamarind sauce. It was delicious. We both had beer. I had the 33 Vietnamese beer. My partner had the Beer Lao. The beer was excellent and served at the right temperature- cold. For dessert we had the mango with sticky coconut rice. It was wonderful. We had an excellent meal and we will return next week for another meal. Pros: Best Kee Mao in NYC Cons: no mai tais- my favorite drink more

Best Thai Food on LES 4/22/2009

Thailand Cafe On Clinton is a small intimate restaurant. \r \r The service is excellent. The staff is very friendly.\r \r For an appetizer my date and I ordered the spring rolls. They were wonderfully crisp and not oily. The accompanying dipping sauce was made in the restaurant and was not the generic sweet sauce that is found in many restaurants.\r \r Last night I ordered the Crab Fried Rice. It was delicious. There were large pieces of white crabmeat in the fried rice. The fried rice was not oily- it was very delicate.\r \r My date ordered the Coconut Chicken. A chicken breast and a chicken leg were served. The chicken was infused with the taste of coconut. It was served with hot sticky rice. The sticky rice was fantastic. There were a few vegetables with the chicken. Thankfully there was no flavorless iceberg lettuce- which all too many restaurants have.\r \r I was a regular customer at Thai on Clinton. But the food in Thailand Cafe on Clinton is even better- the same chef has made several improvements.\r \r This is a great small intimate restaurant.\r \r Thank you. Pros: Great Curry and Pad Thai more

Great Food on Clinton 4/19/2009

This is the best Thai Restaurant on the Lower East Side.\r \r The Kee Mao is fantastic. I had the Beef Kee Mao and it was delicious.\r \r The Curry Noodles are excellent- and I prefer the curry noodles with chicken because the chicken blends in with the curry.\r \r The appetizers are excellent. I enjoyed the Thai Wings and the Bikini Shrimp.\r \r I used to go to Thai On Clinton- and I was disappointed when that restaurant closed. But Thailand Cafe on Clinton, not to be confused with the one on Second Avenue, is fun.\r \r The service is excellent. The price is cheap- for Manhattan.\r \r And the restaurant is spotless.\r \r If you have any recommendations, please inform the staff. The staff is very repsonsive.\r \r Jonathan Pros: Best Kee Mao more

USED to love it, won't return 12/2/2006

WARNING: Something has happened to this place. My girlfriend and I used to love it, but now the food is terrible. The service has fallen off, too. We went a month ago and the food was completely flavorless and it also took forever to arrive. But, since this was one of our favorite restaurants we decided to give it another shot tonight. Again, terrible. The food took forever to arrive and my dish came with chicken even though I'd ordered shrimp. Also, we specifically requested ""spicy"" and there wasn't a hint of spice in the food. It was so bland that if I had been blind-folded, I don't think I would have known it was Thai food. The calamari used to be our favorite appetizer but now the portion was 1/3 the size. And it was so crumbly that you couldn't pick it up with a fork. My girlfriend's duck was just pieces of grizzle. We heard the people at the table next to us complaining about the flavor, too.\r \r I don't know what happened to this place. Maybe they got a new chef or are under new management. We are pretty bummed out because this was our favorite Thai restaurant in the East Village. Sad. more
