Best

Great food, great service, and great advice on what to see and to do while you visiting Thailand. I would recommended this play of anyone that love Thai food like I do.

Worst

I had a mixed experience at Thai Siam. The soup was good as was the salad. However, the judge of any thai restaurant comes from its Pad Thai. This ubiquitios dish should be goo...

Not the same place 9/15/2005

I agree with the last review. My favorite Thai restaurant has completely changed. There are new owners and the quality and flavor of the food has changed. I suggest that fans of this restaurant reconsider their opinions and try somewhere else. Tried this place on 7/7, 7/16 and again on 8/3 so it was not just a bad day. Pros: easy to get to Cons: not good food, bad flavors, too sweet more

Very Disappointing 9/6/2005

I have eaten a lot of Thai food having lived in Bangkok and frequenting Thai restaurants in the US when possible. This was by far the worst Thai food I have ever encountered. We ordered Tom Yum Goong that was so sweet it was impossible to finish and the subtle, complex, lemony flavors were totally masked. Our second dish was vegetarian Massaman Curry which amazingly was also incredibly sweet, tasting more like apple cider gravy than curry. Further, the potatoes were so undercooked as to be inedible. Even the rice was poor quality. Our server was apologetic when we complained but did nothing to remedy the situation except offer to get us a container to talk this inedible food home! We will never return or recommend the restaurant. Cons: overly sweet sauces, no chile flavor, americanized thai more

Great food and service 8/21/2005

The decor is nice but not romantic. The food is wonderful. We loved the honey roasted duck and the coconut soup. Ordering the mango sticky rice for dessert is a must. The warm, sweet sticky rice and the cold mango make a wonderful combination. The service was attentive, yet unobtrusive. I look forward to trying other dishes soon. Pros: food, service more

bad food worse service 8/18/2005

i went here for a quick lunch as this site suggested. BIG MISTAKE. it was super busy and the food was sub par with even panda express in the mall! My wife choked on a chili pepper and the ""waitress"" if you can call her that was rude to me when i flagged her down to for a glass of water so that i could help my wife start breathing agine!!!!!!!!!!! very rude. if i had to take out a pack of drunken frat boys to dinner this would be the place. other than that STAY AWAY! Pros: none! Cons: service, food, parking more

This place is great! 7/7/2005

The food here is wonderful! I haven't ordered anything that isn't good. The dinners are wonderful. My husband gets the pad thai and I get some sort of stirfry type dish--either the ginger or garlic. They are so good. And they will let you swap out veggies if you don't like the ones included. The sticky rice with mangoes is a recommended dessert. Also, get the Thai Iced Tea to drink. Recommend going at dinner if you are picky, because lunch has more set menus with food that is already made, so you can't really swap things out. A great place--has never let me down. Pros: Great Food, Great Thai Iced Tea, Great Desserts Cons: Small, may have wait, Closed Sundays more

BEST THAI IN THE STATE 6/5/2005

I have been going to this restaurant since their grand opening and I cannot get enough. I am always impressed with the vegetarian menu. My favorite dish is the Masaman Curry with Tofu and Por Pia Tod (crispy spring rolls) and Tofu Tod (fried tofu). The service is quick and helpful and the portions are enormous (anyone who says otherwise is lying). Speaking as someone who has dined at this restaurant at least 30 times and has dined at about every other Thai place in SLC, Provo, and Ogden I can honestly say it is the best Thai in the state. Pros: Portion sizes, Best bang for your bu, Por Pia Tod Cons: Bad Parking, Seating Arrangements, Waiting Area more

Authentic Thai 5/23/2005

If any of you have been to Thailand, you will enjoy the authentic atmosphere, tastes, and smells of this restaurant. Delicious, one dinner entre will feed two, makes for a great, inexpensive dinner date. Or, order several items in a large group and share! I would suggest the Khao Pad Goong (Stir-fried rice with Shrimp) and Tom Gai (Coconut-Ginger Soup). If you stay for dessert, a ""must try"" is the Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream. The best ice cream, non-dairy and drizzled with honey. We fit a party of 6 in comfortably, and noticed a party of 10 being accomodated against a back wall. Pros: Inexpensive, Authentic, Cozy more

Phenomenal! 3/28/2005

I can only assume all these bad reviews are by people who work at other Thai restaurants and are losing business to Thai Siam. Absolutely the best Thai I've had in Utah. The Tom Kha Gai is the best I've ever had, and the Masaman curry is amazing. I could eat there every day and enjoy it immensely every time. Pros: great food, service, low prices Cons: crowded more

My favorite place 9/25/2004

After reading all the negative comments about this place, I have something to say. I love this place. You just have to order the right stuff. The Larb salad are very light and refreshing. If you like fried rice, you got to try Kaow Pad, better yet, mix the rice with any curry, the flavor will surprise you! All my family and friends can't get enough with the fish dishes, especially the steam sea bass. Like I said, order the right dishes and you will love this place as much as I do! Pros: great fish dishes, inexpensive, casual more

Average Thai food 7/27/2004

I ordered the coconut chicken soup, krab and creamcheese wontons, and Massaman curry chicken. The chicken in the soup as well as the chicken in the curry, was way over cooked. So over done as to remove any flavor of the chicken. There was an odd smell from the soup, something akin to a kitchen cleanser. Was that the coconut? The Massaman curry almost had flavor. As to the ""great bargains at lunch"", you only need to go across the street to Old World Chinese for the tastiest (can't be beat) lunch on State street. The food at Thai Siam is only average. If you want tasty Asian food, go to Boondock's. Pros: Decor, Parking lot more

Not so bad 6/7/2004

Yes this is a mediocre Thai restaurant but to compare it to Bangkok Thai which is as bland as a Thai place as you can get is ridiculous. I find Thai Siam surpasses Bangkok Thai. There really isn't a great Thai place in Utah, people will just have to accept that, but for those who understand that in America Thai food becomes sweeter than normal, this is a good place. I recommend the spring rolls. I must have gone on good days because my servers were always nice and willing to do special things for me. I can't say if the meat dishes are good because I am a vegetarian but they did make Pad Se Ew for me with Phad Thai noodles how I like it and didn't have a problem with changes like that. Pros: spring rolls!, friendly servers, inexpensive Cons: , sweet food, little parking more

Why the high ratings? 4/20/2004

After seeing this place named Best Thai by Salt Lake Magazine, I had to try it. Service was slow, rude and when they made a mistake with our order, they tried to blame us and refused to compensate for it or even make another dish. The portions wer microscopic compared to the other Thai restaurants here and dishes were bland, curries watery and oily. The people here must bribe the food critics. Bangkok Thai is so much better. Pros: nice decor Cons: , rude service, terrible food more

Typical hole in the wall 4/6/2004

This is a typical Americanized ""Thai"" hole in the wall. The dishes are too sweet and ingredients are really cheap. The food is greasy and not fresh. Went there twice I'll never go back. Pros: Central location Cons: , kinda greasy, slooow service more

Cheap eats that WOW! 12/14/2003

Thai Siam is very good and has fabulous prices. Everything is pretty much $6.50 - $8.00. I had the yellow curry dish with beef and it was so good. Complex flavors of chili's, curry, and sweetness from the coconut milk that was SO good. I will definitely be back. The only downside was that our sencond entree came 15 minutes after our first!! And I would not recomment the Pad Thai...too sweet more

Judge for yourself 9/18/2003

I had a mixed experience at Thai Siam. The soup was good as was the salad. However, the judge of any thai restaurant comes from its Pad Thai. This ubiquitios dish should be good at even a mediocre Thai restaurant. Thai Siam's Pad thai is terrible. It actually tasted like spagehtti. I was pretty disappointed I would give it one more try and thats it. more

WOW, WOW, WOW 5/2/2003

I just love this place! I've been eating here since opening, and have never gone back to another Thai restaraunt in Salt Lake. The food is amazing, the service has always been excellent, an you just can't beat the prices. Don't forget, you can call in and get takeout! Pros: Friendly, Best Thai Food, Best Value Cons: Limited Seating, Limited Parking more

Thai Siam - Kick ass thai food 4/13/2003

If you want to eat at Thai Siam, get there early!! The line is out the door and with only one small room of seats, the place is usually packed. Several time I have gone there with a large group and had to go somewhere else because the wait was too long. That being said, the food is wonderful. Try the soup with kaffir lime in it (shrimp at night, chicken at lunch), it's one of the spiciest things on the menu and is wonderful. The sauce they give for the spring rolls is very tangy, and the massaman curry is incredible. Of course, go at lunch for the 2 entree special! Can't say enough good things about this place. The red curry is great also. I think the largest table that they would be able to scrape together is probably 6. Oh! I forgot! The Thai tea! Wonderful. -Pepper Pros: Cheap!, Great food!, High quality Cons: Busy more

Simply Great Thai Food 2/14/2003

What a great place. Finally a Thai restaurant that is reasonably priced and has a clean, honest atmosphere. Most of the up-scale Thai places in town are too expensive and slightly Americanized. They try to make up for it with extensive wine lists, and fancy decore. This attempt to create a fine dining experience ends up distracting me from the truly great tastes of Thai food. The must have dish is papaya salad. People that are new to this dish will be pleasantly surprised that it is really like a salad and unlike the papaya most of us are exposed to. About every possibly taste is mixed perfectly in Thai food: hot, spicey, sweet, sour, salty, fresh, etc... The soups are great along with the Pad Thai also. The cons: The place is that it is very small and sometimes not open during the hours posted. Pros: Authentic, Tasty, Inexpensive Cons: Sometimes not open, Small more
