I had never been to TGI Friday's before, so my boyfriend and I came here on a whim. Wow, what a mistake. The host was borderline rude, first off. Our waitress was really nice and friendly, but the food was pretty bad. I ordered some kind of chicken sandwich that had been thrown together with seemingly less care than your average fast-food burger. The sandwich came with onion rings--I got seven. My boyfriend's fish tacos were cold and certainly nothing to write home about. You could make what they did at home with flour tortillas, frozen fish sticks, tartar sauce and shredded lettuce, and yours would be better. And the women's restroom was super-scary. Why is there a radiant space heater BELOW the sinks? And there's no hot water in the tap either. Stay away! And if you were our waitress, get out and make better tips at a nicer restaurant!! Some 20 years ago, a group of friends used to shlepp down to Tigard for a good time on Friday afternoon. We'd sit at the bar with the hunky bartenders serving and entertaining us with their drinks and flair. How things have changed! The female bartenders they now have are worthless. I ordered a Bombay martini (stirred), and she actually put it in a BLENDER.... Although on a recent visit we had drinks and sandwiches in the bar and the experience was much better. Food was inventive, reasonably priced, and served with a smile by our bar waitress. We had drinks, but no pressure to reorder them, as in so many corporate places. I had intended to rate this is "average", but in writing, I upped my rating. It's not so bad..... more

So, being that I desperately need work, and despite having attended years of college to avoid this, I decided I would look into working for TGIFridays again. I had the honor of being part of an award winning team, at a store on Colonial Drive in Orlando some years ago, and felt I could bring my experience to bear in the area where I've observed service sorely lacking in skill. First I determined the phone number of the place, through this site, CitySearch. There's no excuse for food leaving the kitchen the way the man's baby back ribs seemed to appear, per his description. I would have comped his entire meal, and saw to it he would give us another chance, and return. Why this wasn't part of his experience eludes me. There is no reason the restroom should be dark and stinky, seriously. There are SO many ways to avoid that. Finally, it really is a disappointment that in Portland, of all places, TGIFridays hasn't done more to provide healthier alternatives for vegans and vegetarians. Alienate them, and you alienate the greater population of Portland. As a waiter there isn't much I can do about the menu, but serving a guest with this simple requirement merely takes some understanding and an extra minute, to provide a custom dish from the kitchen. A good server will establish a rapport with the chef(s), and this kind of request can be accommodated. It isn't easy for me to dine out, being that I am unemployed, but, in my experience doing so locally, I have been routinely let down with service. I called TGIFridays to inquire about how busy they were, and the opportunity to apply, join, and help the team. Several calls went unanswered. I suspect the city's management doesn't want top notch service personnel. Cheap labor is more important that actually meeting your guests' needs. I have no idea how this place has rated higher than this, the place was very busy but for no good reason, certainly not the food. I ordered the baby back ribs for a price I have paid in over a hundred places, to find the quote "meat falls off the bone" to be true, I just expected more than dust for meat. This was by far the worst baby back experience I have had in my 60 years of wonderful life. I will not be back for any reason with so many good places to eat...The service was less than routine, the atmosphere was sorely lacking. The mens room was dark and stank. So we made the mistake of grabbing something quick and easy at TGI Fridays. Fortunately we went at an off hour as when we left the crowd was out the door. One young, loud, dopey crowd. Anyway the always young and unexperience wait staff did best they could with what they have. The food was so-so at best. The artichoke-spinach dip waspoor at best. Our fries were cold to luke warm and the sanwhiches were flavor free. But what do you expect from a place that expects you to dip 90% of it's menu in ranch dressing. Much like Chuck E Cheese pizza is only good to 8 year olds, TGI Fridays is only good to 16 year olds. Must admit the sugary goo that is supposed to be a brownie did taste good. You know, it doen't take that much to put a couple vegan options on the menu, that aren't salads. I went there the other day with my mom and brother's, and salads (which are not anything special there), and some mystery grilled vegetable thing were the only thing on the menu for me. I don't eat cheese or meat, so eating out is difficult. They used to have this great veggie wrap, but of coarse, that's gone. Even if I had found something, it would have taken an HOUR to get it, very slow. Also, I agree with poobaby. How many stupid, immature, LOUD teenagers can you fit into one room? I bet Friday's knows! How bad is this place. I mean, once you pass 20 years old and make more than $6 bucks an hour shouldn't you know better? That for the same price you can get better food, in a nicer place and still have fun...you know with out the lame outfits that just enrage people. The food is edible. I mean, I've had worse. But it is typical American food for the masses- deep fried, ladden with fat and lard to keep us fat and lethargic. That way we stay fat and stupid to come to places like this. Even better, lets go to the bar and have some has been pour our drinks wrong, at least he has a snazzy hat on. Deep fried madness with a crowd od 17 years old everywhere. Can't stand it. more
