best smoked fish in florida 1/14/2012

My wife and I were vacationing in the St Pete area and were looking for a place to have lunch. We happened by Ted Peters Smoked Fish and the parking lot looked like I-4 at 5 pm. We pulled in and had their imfamous smoked fish and was thoroughly pleased. I would recommend this restaurant to any and every one. Cudos to Ted Peters! more

Stay out of South Pasadena 11/13/2011

Red light cameras suck. There is one that has a sign for right turn and one that doesn't. Businesses should be jumping up and down on their representatives desk to get these removed. Tourist beware. Hit them where it hurts. Too many other places to spend my hard earned Money. more

Doesn't accomodate the disabled 10/1/2011

Food is good.....but it doesn't accomodate handicapped people. When speaking to co-owner Tim Cook, we told him of this, he very condescendinglyand sarcastically replied with basically, TOO BAD. Ted Peter's is grandfathered in due to age og building, but any future construction, would be to having it meet the ADA code..... This restaurant has been there for decades, and can't believe it would a money issue....have know the Lathrop's for decades...must be the co owner TIM COOK more

Cameras give tickets in South Pasadena 7/25/2011

While the food at Ted Peters and many other restaurants are excellent I will never travel down there because of the money making politicians that voted for these stupid cameras. Just to send in an affidavit of your correctness is a nightmare. I suggest you long term business get on the city commission or risk folks like me never seeing or eating your potato salad and smoked fish. Sorry Ted Peters. more

They lost their touch. 6/27/2011

Not the same since Mr. Camero Guy, get lost, from the Food Channel. went there. Screw that spiked hair California nerd. TP got promoted and greed followed. Too bad. Thanks Guy, You made it a tourist trap. more

Unimpressed.... 4/2/2011

Not impressed with the service tonight...or lack thereof....walked in around 6:30, no wait for seats at the bar. Sat there for 5 minutes with not less than probably 5 employees walking by behind the bar. Not ONE even acknowledged we were sitting there. I get when a place is packed but even then you can at least make some eye contact to let me know you see me....we got up and walked out before we ordered a thing. And to think, we stopped because Guy Fieri raved about the place. Whatever. more

Best Place on St. Pete Beach 2/17/2011

Ted Peters is one of the BEST place in town. They have EXCELLENT fish spread for being mullet & mahi mixed. The burgers are HUGE and tasty. You gotta have one of their famous Mug of Root Beers with your meal. And for dessert they have OFF THE CHAIN Key Lime Pie. The sever we had was so nice & curtious to us and very fun (Kimberly). Thank you Kimberly & Ted Peters for the awsome experience, we will see you again in the spring. more

Still delicious, but not worth the price 5/13/2010

I am absolutely appalled with this restaurant! This institution has been a place my family has enjoyed for the past 4 generations. And while the food is still good. The cost is outrageous! It was $25 for 2 quarts... 1 fish spread & 1 potato salad. And while it was delicious, you cannot use your debit card which is an inconvenience especially if you are like me and never have more than $10-15 cash on you at any given moment. They also wanted to charge $.05 for every cracker or hot sauce packet. You need at least 2+ sleeves of crackers to eat a quart of fish spread. \r I am very saddened by this. While the food is good and we have immensely enjoyed this in the past. Unfortunately unless we win the lottery, we will not be returning. End of an Era... :( Pros: Still have amazing fish spread and potato salad Cons: Waaaay too much money for the food more

Not as good as it once was 11/22/2009

True this place is legend - but it has gone downhill since the the old guy passed away and left it to his sons. The smoked mullet is good - as always, But the feeling around here seems to be that we can go on forever with the past reputation. Newsflash!!! - you boys will have nothing soon except a valuable piece of property on Pasadena if you don't change your attitude about SERVICE. more

Bad choice 11/4/2009

I took a group of family from out of town to find out this place was CASH Only. Their was nothing on their web site about this. My guests were on vacation and use their credit cards for their trip. They do have an ATM in the parking lot but it requires a fee to withdraw money. How embarrassing to have this situation happen. Will never go back!!! Pros: Fish Spread Cons: Cash only more

A local institution 7/5/2009

Ted Peter's is a St Pete institution and rightfully so. It has some of the best smoked fish around. The fish spread and even the burgers are also excellent. Try some good old fashioned root beer, too. The potato salad is German style and very tasty. Sometimes you might have to wait to get seated, but it is well worth it. Pros: Outstanding smoked fish Cons: Can get crowded more

St. Pete Beach - Surf 'n Turf 3/29/2009

Absolutely amazing - my family's been eating here for over 40 years - one of the best burgers, the most amazing smoked fish and oh my goodness the fish spread is a must - a gotta do when on SPB!!! Pros: Outside, Family Owned, Best Smoked Fish Evah Cons: CASH ONLY more

Was not impressed 3/5/2009

I have lived in this area for almost 30 yrs. I always remembered it being great. Not the case now. Prices for a burger were ridiculous and your charged for lettuce, toms, pickles and whatever else. No sides come with anything unless you want to pay at least $2.00 for potato salad. Three people with burgers with all the trimmings, no sides, fish spread, two sodas, one beer was equivalent to a night at Outback. I've had better fish spread, also. I think they let the fame of being on DDD go to their heads. We will not return. more

Go figure 2/5/2009

I guess I'm one of those locals that frequents Ted Peters and I have done so for 58 yrs. The food is always top drawer even though changes have taken place over the years. The menu is short and simple by design. A simple change such as a chicken sandwich can take a decade to manifest itself. Their is nothing cavalier about their management of what has become a trip down memory lane for many customers. The basis for this is the quality of the food. The ambiance may be Florida 50's but that is Florida at its best. I miss mom's apple pies and cookies but times do change. Thank goodness the hamburgers, cheese burgers, hot dogs, fish spread, clam chowder, cold root beer and smoked fish haven't. \r They say you can never go home, well at Ted Peters it's the next best thing. Pros: relaxing atmosphere, great food Cons: hard bar stools more

smoked mullet 2/5/2009

have lived here 25 years and have been to Ted Peters many times always take northen folk here they as well as myself have really enjoyed the pleasant outdoor setting and the smoked mullet and fish spreads are wonderful. what is really nice still feels like old florida which is hard to find. have to stop in a least once Pros: the smoked mullet Cons: condos blocking the beach view more

Fish was fantastic, but the place is not well-maintained or clean 12/31/2008

My husband saw this place featured on TV so he took the family there over Christmas break. I was quite surprised by how dirty it was and how poorly they maintain the restaurant. Despite this, I decided to stay for him to see if the food was worth it. Surprisingly, the smoked Mahi Mahi was absolutely amazing. I got the lunch portion, which is 3/4 of a pound, although I think they must have given me at least a pound of fish. The lunch portion does not include sides like dinner, so I didn't get the potato salad or baked beans, but I did get a quartered pickle, giant tomato slice, giant onion slice, and a couple of lemon wedges. I also used a bit of hot sauce. Along with the sliced tomato and lemon the flavor was outstanding- simply the best smoked fish I've ever eaten. For under $10 for lunch, I was quite pleased. I also saw other diners eating the smoked fish sandwiches which looked very good. \r \r We also got the fish spread with saltines, which is very similar to tuna fish, but perhaps a little better. For dessert I had an excellent slice of key lime pie! Wow, it was great. If this place could just find a newer, more modern location they would have lines out the door. The food really is that good. \r \r All of our forks came out dirty from the kitchen with food still on them, so we had to send them back, and since we sat by the kitchen I noticed how badly they need to replace the kitchen door. \r \r Would I go back? I probably would but I'm not overly impressed with the service and cleanliness. Pros: excellent smoked fish, great lunch prices, to go menu Cons: dirty, not well maintained more

BEST LITTLE SHACK EVER!!!!! 12/7/2008

I have been to Ted Peter's every time I have gone to Florida and have NEVER been disappointed!!!! I can't wait until Feb. 2009 because I just got married and I am taking my husband to get the BEST smoked fish you could ever have. Thanks Ted Peter's for your fantastic little place, it wouldn't be the same without you!!!!! more

The Best! 11/14/2008

I've been going to Ted Peter's for 40 years. The service is always the same as is the food. EXCELLENT! Those ladies are incredible to work such long hours in the heat. They may have a bad day but don't we all. I LOVE the smoked fish, spread and potato salad. When my son was 5 years old he had a cheeseburger and told me that it was ""The best cheeseburger that God ever made"". It doesn't get better than that! The first trip my husband made he thought I was crazy when I told him to order the cheeseburger and we'd get fish to go. He is now eating like the locals. We LOVE it and when we make it to Florida we go there. If I have friends coming up to visit they bring me a care package. I LOVE IT! Pros: The FOOD! Cons: It can be hot outside but there is an air conditioned indoor dining room more

Glad we ignored the negative 8/10/2008

We went on a Sunday afternoon and had a fabulous meal and great service (from Ruthie, our waitress). We'd read all the bad reviews and still decided to give the place a try on a trip down to Tampa. The FoodTV show looked so appealing and we love Fish!..Well, we weren't disappointed. Hey, try buying a pound of fresh quality salmon from a seafood market (not the grey stuff from the grocery stores), take the time to smoke it yourself and then add all the side dishes....Duh, $18 is cheap!! And try smiling and being friendly to the wait staff! It's just amazing how people respond when you're nice to them.\r \r Thank you Ruthie and thank you Ted Peter's for a memorable occasion. Pros: Food, service, price Cons: None we can think of more

Great smoked Fish and the service was very good as well. 6/14/2008

I read most of the reviews and was surprised to see so many negative comments after hearing good things about this place for years. Almost decided not to go.... but I did and was very pleased with my visit to Ted Peters. \r \r Most of the negative reviews had to do with poor service. My waitress was excellent... very attentive.. she made good recommendations and was very prompt... We had the smoked fish dip and true to the waitress advice it was great with hot sauce. Me and my wife split a smoked salmon dinner (cost $21) and it was more than we could eat.... at least a pound of incredibly fresh salmon... I noted some other complaints about price in some reviews..... I told my wife that good salmon costs about the same as this dish... \r \r All in all my service was prompt and attentive, the food was great, and the cost was reasonable. Pros: Food quality, Service, Old Florida Charm more
