You just gotta visit this place for happy hour. A true bar, with all the fixins. Great service, great food, wonderful atmosphere and live music. Best spot for corporate meeting down time. Great views ;-)!!! Order dinner in the bar at one of the back tables along the mirror and catch all the action. Impress your boss here. He won't care what you tell him or complain about after a few drinks and google eye'd looking at the wait staff. more

Tavern perfect for Happy Hour! 9/29/2011

We decided to stop by the Tavern for drinks last night after a meeting at work! Wow are they packed at Happy Hour!! We decided to sit on the patio and it was a beautiful night in Atlanta. Our server, scantily clad as she was , was very sweet and came back very quickly with our drinks!! She even suggested an appetizer the Thai chips and the Spinach chips we loved both but the spinach were the best! They did have semi ""live"" music. One guy singing but he was good and we were there to drink anyway! We had a large group and everyone was drinking fast to get home. But the food came out quick and our little cocktail gal kept Definately plenty to look at! more

Minorities run dont walk away from this place 9/12/2011

It is a shame that in 2011, racism is alive and well in Atlanta. This is the most racist establishment in the city. If you are Black, get back. The service is horrible for minorities. The wait staff totally ignores minority folks. Be especially careful if you are a Black man because you will have to give up your seat for White Women. If you refuse to give up your seat to a White Woman, you will be escorted out of the establishment by the police. Any minorities, do not spend any money here. Also, there is a discrimination lawsuit that hopefully will close this place down. more

Place has gone downhill 5/13/2011

Used to be a cool, laid back somewhat trendy place to go for a Cobb salad or a burger on a weekday evening. Now they have servers wearing underwear, loud obnoxious middle aged men who think they are going to score the twenty something gold diggers that frequent this place almost daily and lets not forget about the tools that operate behind the bar; you got Tom Cruise and Mr Pony tail man tossing thousands of paper napkins into the crowd of dimwits in 10-15 minute intervals...i'm sure Greenpeace and local environmentalists would have a field day with this place more

Check your credit card statement!! 4/5/2011

The food is very good and so is the service. The only problem seems to be the extra money added to the credit tab after it was signed. If it happens once, it's a mistake. Since it has happened more than once, I think there is a problem. So please enjoy the food and then check your credit card statement. more

My ""Cheers"" bar 9/1/2010

Tavern is my favorite bar in Atlanta. The bartenders always make my friends and me feel welcome and address us by our names. They will gladly customize any drink for you as well, and they do try to ensure that ladies are offered seats. The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. I find the crowd to be quite diverse, from young professionals to older businessmen to professional athletes, so there's always new and interesting people to meet. Unlike other bars in the area that are only good on weekends, this place is really fun during the week nights as well. more

this is a great place to have a drank no matter what ur race is. ive lived in atl all my life and have been goin here for years and yeah u get bad service sometimes but it happens. and for all u haters learn how to TIP and then u probably wouldnt be judged $2 isnt a good tip either. if u cant afford to tip just stay home and clean up and serve urself aight Pros: great place with awesome staff Cons: non more

Fun Atmosphere, Good Food 4/18/2010

ok...working in buckhead for years, Ive eaten at the Tavern multiple ,multiple times. I had to write, because Im floored by all these reviews about racism, and poor service. I am a strong supporter of local restaurants and businesses and in a city like Atlanta where there are so many chains its a pleasure to eat at a place like theTavern that isnt just another franchise. Ive had consistent good service, the food is better than expected, and the atmosphere is great for a happy hour or just hanging out. If visiting Atlanta, or a local, I would highly recommend the Tavern, and disregard the lame ""haters"" speaking about racism or whatever. It just is bizarre as I have been MULTIPLE times and never experienced anything like what the people below are describing. I encourage you to go check it out for yourself, and in the meantime have some good food and drinks. more

Live music for Saturday Lunch!! 4/17/2010

Last Saturday my husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we dined on the patio for Saturday lunch... LIVE MUSIC! Very chill and very good... perfect Atlanta spring weather. I had a shrimp caesar salad (yum!) and he ordered a burger... all good stuff. We couldn't resist to order a beer... it's just what you do when you're being entertained!! I can't sip on water while listening to the tunes!! Can't wait to check it out today! **PS I just read the reviews... what's up with the haters?!?!? Going to this resturant was like going back in time. The staff was very unfriendly. They really didn't care to have people of Color in their resturant. I couldn't believe this was happening in a prodomiently Black city like Atlanta. The city officials should see to this resturant being close down. Fun place. 4/16/2010

I've been to the Tavern many times, and have always received very good food and service. Great nachos and burgers. The dining room is a nice place for a meal, while the bar and patio are great for cocktails. The bartenders are fun, friendly and entertaining. Some have expressed disapproval of the cocktail waitresses' attire, but I have always found them to be friendly, attentive and professional. The bar does get crowded and boisterous, but I find that part of its appeal. There are plenty of half-empty establishments around if that's what you prefer. I like that the Tavern is not trendy, it is a tavern in the classic sense. Recommended. Pros: Good food, lively atmosphere more

Terrible hospitality 3/27/2010

I invited my cousin from Manhattan to lunch last Tuesday and he wanted to go to The Tavern. When we entered the restaurant it was 1:30pm, lunch rush was over. The hostess made eye contact with me but never greeted us or offered to assist. After a number of employees walked past with out even a hello, I commented to another hostess if we were invisible. The hostess that made initial eye contact became overly offensive fussing that she thought we were going to the bar. We finally were seated on the patio and the waitress I believe her name was Tiera was very friendly and professional. Later on, I went inside to use the men's room and suddenly, a manager demands, ""what's the problem""? I am wondering, WTF? I thought a may I help you would have been more appropriate. I almost lost it considering that I spent $135.00 in that place but never again. That is the first time I ever experience racism from my own race. Shame on them. Good food, good drinks, Great Atmosphere 3/9/2009

Everytime I go to atlanta I make sure I always stop by here. Located in the Mall next to Saks the Tavern at Phipps is a real treat. Hosting a very large white collar after work crowd the ideal time to snag a table is between 3-5 if you can get one on the patio. About 5 or so the live music on the patio starts and the people start flowing in. The bartenders definitely are entertaining as they have almost mastered many bar tricks such as throwing a full pint of beer across the bar over someones head and catching it to serve to a patron or pouring a martini into a glass while balancing it on their own head. The women who work there are beautiful and so are a lot of the women who go there to have some drinks. Being in the ritzy area of Atlanta, well worth the trip to see nice cars, good looking people and enjoy a cocktail out on the patio people watching.
