Harvard Square?s best Indian restaurant. 1/20/2009

With its extremely fresh and abundantly flavorful cuisine, Tanjore is Harvard Square?s best Indian restaurant. The breads, including the savory garlic naan, perfectly puffed poori, and peshwari naan stuffed with ground nuts and raisins, make your mouth sing. The piquant basmati rice, with cumin seeds and caramelized onion, is exquisite; and the tamarind, mango and mint chutney sauces are divine. But the dishes, layered with flavors that tantalize the taste buds, are even better. Favorites include delicious dosas filled with potatoes, chicken, or lamb; kheema kothmir, a minced lamb with curry sauce and fresh coriander leaves; and shrimp no paatio, plump prawns in a sweet and sour spiced curry. And with an extensive menu of regional dishes from all over India, Tanjore has something for all tastes. more

Worst place, worst service!! 7/31/2008

Worst place to go if you are looking for a good dinner experience...seriously..... all the dishes they make are rather pre cooked, i have no idea why people tend to like them as much as they do! Adding to that is the service which I personally do not think is the best! you get seated and your order is taken and you get your bill and thrown out! nothing that pleases me about their service. Enter the restaurant after 10 pm and people there would look at you like they want you to get the hell out as soon as possible! I would not recommend this estaurant to any indian food lover! Pros: good nans and lassi Cons: bad service , bad food, ambience. more

Food is delicious. They are careful about not mixing yoghurt [provide separately] so as not to have the appetizers soaked, maintaining their crispiness. Also professional, with attention to details. Highly recommended! more

Don't waste your time here! 3/2/2007

I've been to Tanjore for their lunch buffet and for occasional take out snacks. Their dining area is cold and often unpleasant and their food isn't anything special. They add 18% tip to parties of 6 or more, which is completely understandable under normal circumstances, but you're there for the lunch buffet with horrible service (they never brought us naan which is the only aspect of service they are supposed to do during the buffet) what is the 18% for? All their dishes taste the same. They use all the same spices for every item, but add water to some to make it a clear curry and cream to others to make it a creamy sauce. I much prefer Tamarind Bay, Cafe of India (for Indian food with a twist) or even Bombay Club, which are both right around the corner. Pros: take out snacks are good Cons: service, ambience, food more

One of the Best in Cambridge 2/17/2007

Been to most of the Indian restaurants around cambridge. i like tanjore and tamarind bay the best. the tikka masala is great here. the atmosphere is nice too. good service. no complaints. \r more

Great food! 5/18/2006

I think Tanjore is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Boston. The menu selection is great, as others have mentioned. It does get quite crowded here sometimes, but I think it's worth it for the excellent food. Pros: FOOD, FOOD, FOOD Cons: Sometimes crowded, Can get very loud more

Great Choices on the Menu ! 3/25/2006

Impressive. A good regional twist on the menu, different offering dishes from South India which wasnt surprising. (Tanjore is a smallish city in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu synonymous for a style of painting). Variety on the menu is super. Mainstay dishes from South India and good ones from North India are both on the menu. The appetizers are also pretty good. The Samosa Chaat, Rasam Vada was the ones we tried and really enjoyed. I was delighted to find a dish like Chettinad Chicken on the menu, an intricate recipe and thoroughly enjoyed it. To make things better, the Chettinad Chicken was served not only with White Basmati Rice but also a side of Yellow Daal delish! The dosas (crepes) were good and authentic. I cant wait to go back and try other dishes. The staff/servers are friendly and we liked the ambience a lot. more

Great food and prices 2/21/2006

While this restaurant does not try too hard on atmosphere, the food is great and a really good value. I really like the large menu and have enjoyed a wide variety of different entrees. But it can be crowded and noisy--the tables are close together, so if other people are talking loudly, it can interfere with your meal. Pros: food, prices Cons: crowded, loud more

Tanjore is one of the reasons I moved to Boston 1/22/2006

The food is absolutely fabulous, and they have a lot of non-mainstream dishes. I've been to dinner here and also to the weekday lunch buffet and was inspired by both. You can't go wrong, really. Pros: Food , Variety, Service more

Decent Indian 3/17/2005

This place was surprisingly good. Inside, it is very clean, and the dishes are not as oily as other Indian you'll get. Get any of the bread, which comes really fresh and hot. The chicken tikka is also delicious. more

Tanjore is wonderful! 10/17/2003

Tanjore received the Best of Boston 2003. I can see why. It is the best indian restaurant I have ever eaten at. I have tried many indian restaurants in the cambridge, boston area. But this tops the cake. The atmosphere is simple but the food is delicious. The food is clean and fresh. Not oily! No dish is too overseasoned. Everything is favorful. The food does not taste like it has been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Tanjore offers both northern and southern indian dishes. They offer a good mix. They even offer dishes that are often made in indian households. I really like their complimentary yellow lentil soup that accompanies the entrees. The soup is amazing. Perfectly blended with spices. Overall I give Tanjore a 9. 10 for food and 9 for service. Pros: seated immediately, parking garage more
