A good rule of thumb for small resturants: if you have to wait for a table, there's a good chance the food is good. Tan Tan serves up some of Austin's best pho. It's always packed when we go for lunch, usually we end up sitting at the long ensemble of tables in the middle with strangers. For this quick and delicious lunch, it's not a bother. The soup is made with thin lean pieces of your choice of meat and noodle, the broth warms your soul. The charbroiled chicken on rice is another favorite next to the pho. The menu gives you options of a meat and type of noodle or rice to go with it, enough variety to satisfy while keeping prices reasonable. Expect to pay about 6 bucks per person. Remember to bring cash - no plastic here!
