as an ex carrier for the paper i have seen the changes in format style and rates and must say it has not really helped them but hurt them, they changed ownership, cut there carriers wages by some cases 40 to 50 percent, charge carriers for bags which are meger at best and as a result have lost support from there customer base.
and this is how they make up for it, carriers get charged 4 dollars yes 4 dollars for an error on a sunday paper and 2 dollars for weekdays and saturday and they make far less than a dollar delivering it on sunday, ie. bags, gas, time, and late or messed up pay checks if this is not unfair billing practice i dont know what is and hawkers those guys that stand on the median and hustle the paper on sunday really they make more on sunday than carriers do that deliver the paper 7 days a week, totally unfair. an average carrier route is 35 miles they put it all on carriers
