No toasting 3/19/2006

The one flaw to Tal Bagels is that they won't toast your bagel. To be fair, their bagels don't need toasting because they are so delicious on their own you can even skip the schmear (but you don't because it is so darn good). But sometimes I like a toasted bagel. So I bring it home and toast it there. They also offer salads, spreads, juice, coffee - typical fare for a good bagel place. The BEST thing about Tal (besides the bagels) is the fairly large seating area. So you can be one of the lucky ones to spread the Times out on their table and enjoy your schmear outside of the confines of your home. more

i think this place is a bit overrated. the bagels are friggin huge - i think i could squeeze throught the hole in some of these. that said they arent the tastiest. i'd had over the title to essa if youre local. i'm not a lox person but i'm told they are so so. if youre wandering around lookin for something else, the deli selection is ok. ive had better ruggelah. but id say walk an extra few blocks and make it to essa. more

Gourmet, wide-variety Deli and Bagelry 8/17/2005

I am biased, since this is right across from my building, but the bagels are never disappointing, and they have such unique spreads (like a cream cheese/lox combo). If you are in the mood for a great deli sandwich, this is a solid choice. They also specialize in all types of bakery items that are delicious, although the prices are typical for what you would expect of a Manhattan franchise. more
