As a Japanese, I am quite disappointed of their foods' taste. Though services are very nice, their foods taste far worse than real Japanese foods comparing to some other Japanese ...

Good Quality "go-to" place 6/18/2011

So, there's usually a wait here, but it's worth the wait. It's not mind-blowing, but for the price and consistency, it is worth the wait. For a long time, I was looking for a regular "go-to" sushi place in NYC and finally came across this place. I'd recommend it if you are looking for solid sushi that won't break your wallet. Aside from sushi, the udon noodles in soup are good as well. more

Try the shumai! 4/2/2006

An East Village staple,Takahachi has managed to go from being great to almost crappy and back to great again!!! Whether you order from the kitchen or the sushi bar you're bound to get some really good food.Among my favorites is the crab shumai (which is made on premise, not frozen!) made with lump crab meat and served with a nasal clearing mustard.Reasonable prices and an ever-changing specials menu makes me want to go there everyday. more

Solid neighborhood Japanese 3/11/2006

Takahachi is a good neighborhood sushi place, that occasionally has excellent and somewhat rare sushi specials. The line during the dinner hour is often quite long, but you can ease the pain of the wait by being willing to dine at the sushi bar. The main thing to recommend the place is the ability to order skewers and tempura (in a wide variety of both fish and vegetables) by the piece (although the skewers are sometimes overcooked and too chewy). I wouldn't say it's worth a trip out of the way, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's a solid, consistent option. more
