While there was nothing wrong with the food I had, it didn't hold up against other top-notch sushi places (won't name names, but one nearby and one in Gwinnett). Prices were fi...

Really fresh and unique sushi options. Love the candlelit atmosphere and the bustle of a busy restaurant! more

Those foods were so delicious 8/17/2011

The foods were so delicious. Everything I've had so far has been wonderful - I love it. I'll go there again. I tried another restaurant named Misano Japanese. The restaurant is located in one of the area's most pleasant settings and is known for its delightful staff and superb cuisine. Serving for 30 years. I like it. $20 gift certificate for $10 from QuarterOFF. com. Overall it?s great. more

This place is gold. I've eaten sushi in Japan, Korea, LA, SF, NY and in many other sushi savvy places and TAKA tops them all. Price and Friendliness are more than ideal. But Taste and Flavor take top honors. Try the tuna tartar appetizer, the yellowtail special roll, the super crunch roll, CNN roll, the tomago, the Unagi, the fried calamari... the fried banana ice cream. There are very few misses, if any. Thanks TAKA! Pros: everything Cons: they're too modest more

Best Sushi Ever 7/17/2009

This is the best sushi out there. Its not the most trendy place around. But you will know it’s the best for three reasons. 1. The food is great tasting. ( I am a big fan of sushi and have tried almost everything there is in the Atlanta area). 2. The restaurant is always full, no matter what day of the week… which means very fresh ingredients… very important when you eat raw fish. 3. Even though its not trendy, in the parking lot you will see plenty of luxurious cars. Oh and the service is great! Pros: Best sushi in town Cons: Make reservations ahead because it gets full! more

Most Creative ... Most Gracious ... Most Wonderful Evening 6/17/2009

The evening started out with an accident, but the waiter, the hostess, the colleagues, the chef, everyone on staff ... all made it up to me. For years, I have been visiting Taka and enjoying the wonderful culinary delights they offer, but tonight ... their hearts and their service were shining through. The evening was just perfect, even with the opps (wine spill). \r I cannot encourage you enough to visit Taka for the culinary experience, the cultural experience, and the experience of superb service! Pros: Quality of Food, Creativity, and Service Cons: Waiter accidentally spelt wine on me. more

Phenomenal 3/13/2009

I grew up in Los Angeles but have lived in Hawaii, Seattle and am well travelled so am very picky when it comes to good sushi. Taka is as good if not better than any sushi place I have been to in the world. All of the fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth. The rolls are great but I don't fill up on them as the sashimi is so amazing. The toro hand rolls are the exception and i order one every time I go. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and letting Taka order for you, he will never steer you wrong. The rotating selection of soups are all amazing. The ""Healthy Body"" vegetable soup is just the right amount of spicy with perfectly layered flavors. Taka, the other sushi chefs and the wait staff are all so friendly and attentive and are happy to make recommendations on food or Saki. I have never found any bad Saki on the extensive list that is organized by distilling style (I personally love any of the unfiltered Sakis). The deserts are also great with the chocolate mousse a particular highlight. The prices are reasonable for high quality sushi and are cheaper than a lot of the so-called high-end sushi places in Buckhead. The name, Taka Sushi & Passion says it all...you can feel Taka's passion for sushi in each delectable bite! \r \r I only wish I didn't live accross the street because my 2-3 times a week sushi habbit is eating into my bank account. \r Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Freshness, Taka, Everything.. Cons: Parking lot can sometimes fill up on the weekend but you can use the retail one next door more

Best sushi in Atlanta 2/9/2009

Attention all sushi lovers, Taka is officially the best sushi in Atlanta. By far the freshest, best quality fish and perfectly prepared. Best appetizer is the Hamachi Kama (tuna collar). Only downside is they run out pretty quickly so I would suggest getting there early to ensure you get it. Good selection and variety of rolls but this is definitely more of a real sushi lovers place so be aware that their focus lies more on the sushi and sashimi. Prices are excellent for the quality of fish you are receiving. Limited seating so I suggest reservations. This is now the only place I will go in Atlanta. Nothing else compares. Pros: Fresh high quality fish. Excellent atmosphere and great service. Cons: Absolutely none! more

The Best. 12/15/2008

Taka consistently has the freshest fish in Atlanta. I have been going to Taka's for 2 .5 years, almost every month. I have tried other restaurants, but none are as creative nor is the staff as friendly and attentive. Everyone that I have brought to the restaurant has become an immediate fan of the quality of fish and the experience. I would highly recommend coming to Taka's and experiencing The Best! Pros: Fresh, Attentive Staff more

Best Celebration in Town! 11/24/2008

Very high quality food, delicately prepared as well as presented by Chef Taka. Always consistently a memorable dining experience. Very highly recommended!\r \r Former Executive Director of the Japan America Society of Georgia more

Best TRUE sushi in Atlanta 1/11/2008

Taka is an absolute NOTZEE over the quality of his product! (The website wouldn't let me spell the capitalized word correctly) I spent many years in the upper scale food service industry and understand food quality. On Friday or Saturday nights the staff on the floor is sometimes spread thin. It honestly has little to no impact on my experience given the mastery of Taka's creations. The Uni ravioli is purely devine! Sea urchin wrapped in sea scallop finished with an exotic vinegarete. It's a mystery to how he always has the highest grade tuna available. Toro, chu-toro, o-toro! OH MY! While my wife and I live for the nigiri and sashimi, we can always bring friends who may not be as passionate or versed in sushi. Our guests always find lavish delight in the inspired roll selection and even cooked choices. Bring family, friends, or business clients with confidence. It sure beats the stuffy Buckhead alternatives and shows you have your finger on the pulse of the city. There isn't a sushi joint around Atlanta that compares if quality is concerned. If you shop at Win-Dixie you'll probably be happy with the other places intown. But for those who enjoy Whole Foods, Taka's is the only choice. Pros: Intimate, friendly, inspired food, Impecable quality Cons: Limited sushi bar seating more

Love it. 12/26/2007

I love it at Taka. The sushi is among the best I've had and the service is quick and friendly. The environment is modest (not uber trendy like you'd find at Fune) but it gets the job done in an inoffensive manner! Pros: Great Sushi and service Cons: not open on Sundays more

Best Sushi in Atlanta! 8/11/2007

Taka has, by far, the best and freshest sushi in Atlanta bar none. If you are looking for great sushi then look no further as this is the place to go. The only negative about the place, and for some people it would not be much of a negative, is the fact that it is a small, plain restaurant without any glitz.. When you pay the bill at the end of the night you are definitely paying for the great meal and not any of the extra stuff that other restaraunts give you like a DJ playing music or a very expensive conveyor belt. If you are looking for a hip place to lounge at than this is probably not the place. But if you are looking for a wonderful culinary experience than you should definitely give Taka a try because you won't find anything better, this is what sushi is supposed to taste like. Pros: Sushi, food, quiet atmosphere Cons: quiet atmosphere more

Great food and atmosphere 7/23/2007

Recently went to Taka based on a recomendation that it was the best sushi in Atlanta. We found it to be quite good. They have an excellent assortment of specialty rolls. For the more commonly named ones - like spicy tuna - they have added their own derivation to the usual make up. We really enjoyed everything we ordered, including the fried banana dessert. Also - we sat outside in their little courtyard which was quite nice. The prices were low given the quality of food. We will definitely go back here before going back to MF. Pros: Outside courtyard, great rolls Cons: No liquor more

Simply, the best sashimi in Atlanta. 1/15/2007

I finally had a chance to try Taka after it re-opened with my wife. We have been back 3 times since. The Sashimi platter is great to share and the fish is soooo fresh. We have been to numerous sushi places around Atlanta, since we moved here 2 years ago, and we have to say, by far, this is the best place. We do not believe the rolls are up to par, since the rice was a little hard, and not flavored correctly. Perhaps it was a one night mistake on the sushi rice, but why eat the fish with rice, when the fish is so amazing anyways. \r \r GREAT PLACE TO EAT. If your date isn't into sashimi, nighiri, or the rolls, don't bring them here, since the menu is not that comprehensive in other items. A litte expensive, but I would pay a little more for great fresh sushi than have stomach pains the next day with bad fish.\r \r HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT AMBIENCE. Cons: Limited selection if you date isn't into the fish stuff. No, Katsudon, limited soups and noodle dishes. more

Absolutley one of the top restaurants around! 10/2/2006

He's baaack! Taka has reopened his restaurant at the same location. Different street sign and different decor, but the same great fish and truly imaginative dishes. You can't find a better place to spend a couple of hours eating and drinking. Pros: wonderfully crafted dishes and great service. more

Best tasting fresh sushi in Atlanta! 9/27/2006

Taka is the tastiest, freshest fish around! Taka is creative and clever. Will be moving soon to a new location- keep track and follow Taka anywhere! Pros: Fresh creative delicious sushi! Cons: none! more

Would have liked to try, but they did not pay their taxes 9/24/2006

Given the Rating on Citysearch, my wife and I wanted to try this restaurant known for its sushi. However, when we arrived, it was abandoned. There was a sign on the window that basically said everything had been sold because the owner failed to pay around $13,500 in taxes. \r \r Really would have liked to try it. Too bad. Pros: Never eaten here Cons: Closed down due to un paid taxes. more

Still the best sushi in Atlanta 8/30/2006

I'm sorry but I disagree with the previous commentator. I have been going to this place since it has opened and it is still the best place for sushi. I have noticed that TAKA is not there any longer but the fish quality and taste is the same if not better. The appetizers, rolls, and nigiri were all very tasty and of great quality. There is a new Japanese sushi guy there who is very friendly and easy to talk to. The service was excellent and the hostess was wonderful as well. She is always friendly and helpful, and since I come there often with my family I know that she is not just ""the hostess."" Whether the head chef TAKA is there or not the food taste and service remains consistent....which in my mind is what a great restaurant should be! Pros: quality, taste, service Cons: decor more

He is back. She is gone. 8/25/2006

This is a good news. Taka is finally back. And the hostess is gone.\r No more cel phone girl in the restaurant.\r Pros: free parking, new decor more

Fresh & Fantastic A++ Food; Only issue was the hostess. 8/6/2006

Lobster Salad on Flounder Sashimi, Shrimp Spring Roll with Honey Lime Mayonnaise, Tai Sashimi Salad (red snapper), Copacabana Roll (scallop and mango), Snow Crab 100 Roll --- all were top notch. Tuna Tartare was nice, but I think it was not to our taste.\r \r Nigiri - Live Scallop ($9/2pc), Blue Fin ($14/2pc). The price surprised me a little, but these were the specials and we had no complaints about the taste. Yum. All the prices seemed to be in line with a Buckhead sushi restaurant.\r \r Service at the table was very attentive and either server would easily come to refresh our drinks or take plates if they saw something was needed. \r \r My only complaint was that I had to wait ten minutes to get into the ladies room because the hostess was chatting it up on her cell phone in there. I discovered this after waiting several minutes. I knocked because I wasn't sure anyone would be in there quite so long. She popped open the door, looked at me, then said, ""Oh. Sorry."" Phone to her left ear. She then closed the door in my face and continued her conversation. I waited longer, then gave up and returned to my table. I thought she was a customer, but discovered when she came out *finally* that she was the hostess. \r \r I've dined in at least 2-3 dozen sushi restaurants and may have found a new favorite. Creative combinations and the freshest I've tasted outside of an oceanfront location. We'll give it another try and hope that the hostess can conduct her lengthy personal conversations somewhere other than the ladies restroom. Pros: Creative combinations, Free (non-valet) Parking Cons: Hostess more
