TKTS is the only way to see a show 8/1/2006

I love the TKTS Booth in Times Square (there's also a location at South Street Seaport. The booth moved from it's normal location due to construction, so for the next few months look for it's temporary location just outside the New York Marriott Marquis hotel on West 46th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. There is one window that exclusively offers plays, the other windows offer musicals and plays. Their hours are: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for 8pm perfs: 3pm - 8pm Wednesdays and Saturdays for 2pm matinées: 10am - 2pm Sundays for matinees: 11am - 3pm Sundays for evening perfs: 3pm TO CLOSING If you're lucky you an get tickets to just about any show - the more popular Broadway musicals run out first. There are always staff on hand to give you suggestions on what play to see if you're not sure which one to select. more

A New York institution 5/21/2006

TKTS is a New York institution. I spent my childhood waiting on lines here with my aprents to get discount Broadway tickets. Realize you won't get tickets for the most popular shows here (Wicked has been sold out for months) and you can't buy tickets in advance only for the same day, but you can see some great theatre at a discount price. You may also want to check into show's rush policies (try where you can get even cheaper tickets by lottery at the theaters themselves; rush is sometimes, but not always restricted to students. more

Theater Development Fund - Broadway tickets for less 4/30/2006

Theater Development Fund (TDF) is one of the best kept secrets in the theater world. It is a membership only organization for teachers, students, members of the armed forces, clergy, staff of non-profits, retired people and union members to attend theater performances at reduced rates. The membership fee is $25 and entitles you to receives notices of opportunities to purchase tickets to the latest Broadway, off-Broadway and dance performances. Tickets can be as little as $35--a real bargain! Some limitations include that you cannot select seating--it can be anywhere in a theater. And TDF will not replace a lost or stolen ticket so you'll want to keep it in a safe place. TDFalso has a voucher program to purchase tix for experimental theater for off off Broadway, music and dance performances. Four vouchers are just $28. NYC on a shoestring, for sure. more

Broadway shows at a discount! 3/24/2006

This is a great place to go if you intend to see a Broadway show later that day. If you go in the afternoon, they have tickets for that night’s shows at a huge discount, usually around 50% off. This sure beats regular ticket prices, which are normally pretty high. They always have a wide variety of shows listed for every night. Definitely worth checking out if you want to save some money! more

Discount Theater Tickets 12/23/2005

For tourists and native New Yorkers alike, if you're in midtown, definitely stop by and see what might be on the boards. Theater tickets for that very day are usually discounted at least 50%, and you will have to pay a service fee. And only cash is accepted. They've had some really popular Broadway shows on the boards lately; Phantom, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Avenue Q. It's first-come, first serve so if you want better seats, drop by early in the morning to get tickets. This is really a great option for those who don't plan in advance and might be interested in incorporating a show in their evening. more

Right in the center of everything, you too can taste Broadway! 10/6/2005

TKTS is a New York City legend. Nestled in the heart of Times Square huddled masses wait in blue skys or hail, come what may to get the first come first servce last minute tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway shows. The tickets are up to half-price off (some 25% off) and are to shows that are not very new, but often excellent. Since theater tickets these days are never cheap, be prepared to shell out at least 50 or 60 dollars per ticket. They charge a small service charge ($2.50 /ticket). Oh! And don't forget to bring cash!!! more

The place for last minute theatre tickets!! 8/29/2005

TKTS is a New York City Times Square staple. You can't miss the big red and white banners in the middle of Times Square. This is a great place to get last minute, day of tickets for half price to Broadway and select Off-Broadway theatres. Often the seats are rather good as well -- as the theatres dump the seat the day off. The downside is that you don't know what show you are going to see until that day -- but the good part is the half price ticket!! The line is usually long, but tends to move rather quickly. more

a value 8/21/2005

The TKTS booth used to be a good deal but there aren’t that many good shows to go to except for maybe Blue Man Group. This booth is a tourist trap right smack in the middle of Times Square. It’s not worth waiting in line for. I’d suggest that you do some research on rush ticketing for whichever show you want and you’ll save a lot more money! more

line up and save 8/20/2005

The TKTS booth in the middle of Times Square at 47th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue is where tourists and locals alike go to get in on the bargain of Broadway (and off- Broadway)shows for a fraction of their usual cost. It used to be half price but that's no longer the case, what with the sur-charge and tax and such, but with theater ticket prices starting near 100 bucks, anything you save is gravy. Except for the most popular shows, tickets to almost anything are available be it serious plays, light comedy or musicals. And the wait itself is theater as the line winds around Duffy Square and friendships are made. I actually know a couple who met on line ( in New York you wait ON line, not IN line) and have been married for years. more
