Bad Service 4/1/2009

Went there with a few buddies on Thursday and the service was horrible. The waitress was horrible getting drinks and taking food orders. And when the food came, it was wrong and horrible. Pros: Looks Neat Cons: Service more

Horrible service & expensive 6/30/2008

My husband and I met some friends on a very slow Sunday night. After waiting on the patio for 20+ minutes with no service (it was not very busy outside) we finally moved inside and sat at the bar. The bartender who was very nice, but very slow took our order and screwed it up. We ordered 2 sandwiches and had 2 tap beers each an the tab was $60. I grew up in Saint Paul and Sweeny's was one of my favorite hang-outs, but it really has gone down hill in the last few years. The food and service not worth the price!! Pros: The Patio is beautiful Cons: what's the point of a nice patio if you won't get served more

Sweeney's is great and doesn't cater to underage people nor does it need their business! It's one of the most successful bars in the twin cities for a reason. I love sweeny's be it expensive and the service being the worst I've ever had. That said, the vibe is amazing and its a great place to hang out with friends, especially in the summer/early fall. The foods great too . .. plus, you can save money because you don't have to tip that much for such terrible service :) Pros: outside area Cons: service more

Sweeney's is great! 5/31/2007

Contrary to what andrewkoto had posted. Sweeney's is a great place to go before and after Grand Old Day! It's an annual tradition for me. I mean....maybe if there is only ONE server for the entire patio, unless their super human, yeah....you might not get top notch service. Every time I have gone to Sweeney's i've had a great time. Ignore what andrewkoto said....This place is great! more

Horrible Service on Grand Old Day 6/5/2006

A couple friends and I were there after Grand Old Day and the service was terrible. We sat on the patio and put in our order for 3 burgers. After having to go to the bar for our drinks and waiting an hour for the food we decided to leave. I told the only waitress working the entire patio that we didn't want the food and that I wanted my credit card back. We left and went to La Cucaracha just down the street... Much better service! Oh, and they still tried to charge my account for the food we didn't get. Cons: Service more

Sweeney's gets no R-E-S-P-E-C-T for there Bloody's and food. They may be the best in the Twin Cities. If you're looking for good beer - Sweeney's in the spot. The patio is great in the summer. Pros: Bloody Mary's, Inexpensive, Beer Selection more

A summer night at Sweeny's can't be beat. The service is good and the atmosphere is better. Has a bit of a ""Cheer's"" vibe going on inside. If it's nice out make sure you sit out back--the patio is one of the most unique in the area. Pros: patio, fun crowd, Inexpensive Cons: no parking more

Apparently some young-un got bounced and wants to make a run on bad reviews for Sweeney's. tsk tsk... I've lived in the Sweeney's neighborhood for well over 2 years now and have eaten there several times. You will not find a better Juicy Lucy burger in all of the Twin Cities. I guarantee it! And the seasoned fries are delish! -- Don't miss the super cool and cozy outdoor (and indoor) fireplace in the fall of the year. It's a great hangout for a couple or a group of friends. Won't accept large groups! 11/16/2002

I have never been to a bar that refuses to let in a large group (10-15 people). By the looks of this dump, they could use the money. I can't imagine running a business and turning down hundreds of dollars for a large party. more

Pricey and not impressed 10/19/2002

We went to Sweenys with a group of 7 on a Friday night around 7:00, the seating arrangement was poor, and the service was poor. We paid 105$ for some appetizers and 4-5 pitchers of beer. I was not impressed. more
