Horific Customer Service 5/20/2007

I would have tiped 0% but there was a 15% tip automatically added to our bill. The sushi here was ok, but the not worth the price, and to make matters worse the service was horrible. Seriously this wasn't just a bad day I had, read the other reviews. Pros: Good View, OK sushi Cons: service, parking, wait time, hidden charges more

Overrated sushi but fun atmosphere 3/18/2007

OK if you are young and asian and don't care about waiting for an hour for OK sushi, then this is the place for you. \r \r With a big group of friends, it can be a lot of fun. And you can take a walk on the beach across the street afterwards (or while you wait). \r \r But the sushi is just OK, and the service is a bit less than OK. \r \r Go if you are in a fun mood and want a young, loud scene. Don't go for good sushi. Pros: big rolls, fun atmosphere Cons: poor service, long wait times more

Cheap prices are gone but bad service remains. 1/30/2007

There was once a time when I could justify tolerating a clueless restaurant staff that does not understand the basics of seating and quality customer service, in order to enjoy moderately priced and average quality fish. However, now that they have raised their prices, there is no real reason for putting up with the extremely long waits and often negligent staff (with the exception of a few stellar ladies who have been there for a while). This establishment has been struggling with its management since day one and now with the increased prices they really need to make some improvements to subsidize the lower economical advantages that used to be it's claim to fame. Maybe the owners should hire a consultant. Oh also try to avoid going in parties larger than four as they have a horrible time figuring out how to accomidate your party and you'll end up waiting even longer than it might seem when reading these reviews. Pros: Even though prices are on the rise, they are still competitive. Hamachi kama. Cons: The staff has no idea how to seat people and the restaurant is mis-managed which leads to below average service more

Good rolls and fast service 1/21/2007

My wife and I go there at least once a month. She says I'm crazy but I like to go to Sushi house because I like eating the sushi there. The wait can sometimes take forever though because its always packed. Pros: Parking, Location, food Cons: the waiting list more

Best Sushi Around 11/20/2006

I have eaten in many different establishments in Alameda, SF and NY and Sushi House is in my top two. The spicy tuna is so fresh and tasty. The edamame is warm. The less common rolls like the Cherry Blossom and the Crazy Monkey are a fresh mix of some old favorites. I hesitate to tell the rest of the bay area how outstanding this restaurant is for fear of never getting a seat! Pros: Fantastic sushi, great location Cons: Slowish service, long lines more

tasty sushi 11/13/2006

i've been there a few times and the sushi tasted really good and it wasn't too expensive! the wait time isn't too bad either. more

Good price and portion, Long wait 10/29/2006

I guess it's a toss up. Even at 5:30 on the weekends they're busy till 9p,. Try for cold boring days? Lunch before noon is a good time too. A lot of other cheaper sushi places can't match the price, portion, or even the average sashimi quality. I've seen people wait forever for take-out too. I've never had bad service from the busy waiters. I guess it's user discretion. But dont' be discouraged. I still go there, when i've planned in advance to be early. Pros: inexpensive, large portions Cons: wait can be long- but time it right! more

This sushi ROCKS!! 10/8/2006

I am a sushi-holic. I've tried them all - Oakland, Berekeley, SF. This truly is the best Sushi I've had. The rolls are PACKED with the most delectable and FRESH fish-alot more than I can say for some of the more ""popular"" sushi joints around. Their Rainbow roll isn't topped with miniscule nuclear fish portions and doesn't cost fifteen bucks!!. The Lambada and Alameda rolls are simply the best - fresh salmon and sashimi topped ith avocado and fish roe and their special sauce. The flavors just explode in your mouth. Yes, I know it's not authentic Japanese. Well, Burritos are not authentic Mexican, but they're hell of good!! And to all those who whine about the wait and the long lines, don't go when everyone else and their mother are going!! I always try to get there before 6:30 or a late lunch on the weekends. I can't remember the last time I had to wait in line...and I'm there a few times a week. Service? I'm not there to strike up a conversation with the waitress - I'm there to eat great sushi. As long as they take my order and don't mess it up, I have zero problem with their rushed and not super-friendly service. In fact, I'd rather they rushed my order than prance around the dining-room stricking up conversations with everyone.\r \r Pros: great prices, fresh fish and lots of it in rolls Cons: long wait at times - who can blame 'em? more

Decent Sushi, Good Prices, Worth a Tolerable Wait 6/16/2006

Late Thursday night, 15 minutes before Sushi House closes at 10pm. I wander in with a friend who almost got us lost. We waited maybe 10 min. We ordered Lion King, Poki, and Webster Rolls (Webster being my favorite). Also started with Hirame (which I have to stop ordering instead of Yellowtail) and Saba (Makerel Yum!). Service was decent, not the place for that personal attention. Overall, it was a good sushi experience that really hit the spot. I would come back again if I was in the area. The place does have a 'cafeteria' feel to it because its so massive. The private room looked fun and the people around us seemed to enjoy their food too. For beginners, I definitely recommend the Lion King (baked salmon CA roll) since its fast becoming their signature roll. Oh, tempura order looked like it had generous portions. Pros: Good Sushi Rolls, crowded atmosphere Cons: Needs to stay open later everyday more

Have tried three times~and failed horribly 5/4/2006

I tried 3 times to have a positive experience @ Sushi House. It is close to my house and I actually like their sushi for the most part. What I can't stand is the cafeteria-worthy ambiance, the insanely poor service, and the obnoxious waiting process (plan on 45 minutes in a crowded entry with a stack of others. I have been in the restaurant industry for decades, and this place is unbelievable. I will drive for better sushi from now on. Don't be fooled by the size or crowd, this place is sub-par at best Pros: good sushi Cons: nowhere to wait, horrible service, bad decor more

Poor service for sushi that's barely palatable 4/24/2006

It's one thing to wait over an hour to be seated or as long to pick up a phone order you've called in with the anticipation of amazing food you just can't get anywhere else. It's quite another to go through all that and to eat at Sushi House. The food is mediocre at best, lacking any and all authentic credibility, and the staff will more than make your wait and experience even less pleasant. If you're searching in Alameda for mind blowing sushi, Angelfish is THE only place to go. Skip Sushi House altogether, unless the long waits, poor sushi, and lousy service is your thing. Pros: large dining space Cons: poor food, poor service, "faux" sushi more

incompetence prevails here 4/10/2006

Arrived at restaurant at 3;30 , received menu and were left out on the patio for the next 20+ minutes with no service. When waitress finally arrived, she said we could not order from tghe menu we had been handed because now it was 4 p.m. and only the more expensive dinner menu was offered. We should have walked out then, but because we had enjoyed the food before, went ahead and ordered. No water until we asked for the tthird time. One dinner arrived 'way before other three. A request for another dish from the menu was taken and never delivered. Waitress simpered about being"" too busy, oh so sorry"" when we complained about the poor service. We had a bill that totalled well over $100 and received service that would make McDonald's blush. Too mamy good sushi places to waste time and $$ here. Pros: decent parking, food is very good Cons: arrogant staff, incompetent staff, crowded and noisy more

you better have some patience 3/3/2006

i learned not to eat there on weekends. though they moved to a bigger space, they didnt hire more servers. ex. of lousy service & idiotic waitresses: ate there during the week. wait was 20 mins. bc they didnt clear a table. as regulars we knew what we wanted, it took 20 min. to order drinks & 20 to order sushi. i flagged a waitress down & yelled to get her attention to fill my drink. we didnt leave a great tip, & i cant thank the food for being great. outside w/ a sleeping baby, the waitress runs out wanting money for tip. my friend gave $3, but i was PISSED. inside i stood calmly where 3 waitresses ignored me. i demanded the money back & loudly explained what gratuity meant. we were banned, but if you want great sushi w/ a good atmosphere, try Tomadachi in hayward. Pros: great sushi Cons: crappy service, too long of a wait, lousy staff more

Toss up 2/26/2006

I agree with all the reviews listed. The service seriously needs fine tuning: non responsive waitresses, lack of attentiveness, absolute stupidity at times. You ask for water and all you get is air. There is NO customer service. The food is overall good and probably worth it. But SERIOUSLY, if they don't get their act in order, they won't last much longer. You want to go eat and relax not get frustrated. Hey, here's a thought, if a miracle does happen and things start to shape up... maybe the wait won't be so long. Pros: Parking Cons: Too long of a wait, lack of service more
