Best

My company hosted a dinner at Sullivan's in one of their private rooms & it was fantastic. The room was beautiful, the steaks/seafood were great & the service was top notch. If ...

This place was waaaayyyy overpriced! Sullivan's has a beautiful dining area and I was very excited initially...once the poor service started, it all went downhill from there. My...

Overrated 4/21/2003

Each time I've eaten here I've come away more than slightly displeased. If it isn't absolutely torching a $30 steak, thus ensuring I won't be able to eat with the rest of my party as they prepare another one with no apology given, and no correction of the bill offered to make up for their gaffe. We've also stopped by the bar for drinks prior to our meal only to be hounded FOUR times to be seated prior to our reservation time so the restaurant could move folks in and out like cattle. Pros: atmosphere Cons: rushed, no parking, rude service more

Upscale but horrid food 1/25/2003

Overpriced. The steak tasted like it was broiled and had no flavor. The shrimp dish was something you could make much better at home. My group and I were not impressed at all with the whole dining experience. The service was the only good thing about the place. What is up with the iceburg lettuce wedge? Pros: Service Cons: Overpriced, Poor food value, Food was horrible more

Excellent Wine Choices 1/12/2003

Loved the restaurant! Fits in with Austin perfectly. Really enjoyed the wine list, choices of wine, and the wine stewart. Highly recommend a visit when in town... which I am every 3 months. more

Are you ready to RUMBLE! 12/30/2002

I have eaten here mor efrequently than any other steakhouse in Austin, and find it simply the best. Often I go early and enjoy the Jazz and the crowd at Ring Side, Sulivan's bar. The always call at the appointed hour, and seating is prompt, courteous, and lavish. Though the atmosphere can be loud at times that is the charm in this place. The food is excellent, and if you feel up to spending the money, ad the large lobster tail to your steak, it i sthe best thing they cook even ahead of some of the finest steaks I have ever enjoyed. This is a true delight in Steakhouses, let them lavish great attention on you and your meal, then afterwards relax and enjoy coffee or wine while talking to close friends. Pros: Steak, Lobster, Service Cons: Price, Parking, Getting a table more

Good Times 12/3/2002

Great Food and Ambiance! Give this place a try if you can get in. Truely one of Austins best and most popular restaurants. more

Good meat. 12/3/2002

The best steak in Austin hands down. Expensive but worth it if you do not mind spending the money. more

Best in Austin 12/3/2002

I have dined here many times over the past few years and have had only one bad food experience (which was taken care of more than adequately by management). Great steaks, great atmosphere, great service. more

so good 12/3/2002

I enjoy Sullivan's every time I get to Austin. The service and environment can't be beat. And the steaks... Mouth-watering! I am happy to see a Sullivan's finally in Dallas. Thanks. more

What's all the RUCKUS? 12/3/2002

loud, overpriced, over- seasoned steaks.High priced drinks. The bar area is crowded , but fun.The food is secondary to the bar , and people watching .The place was VERY loud ! Pros: people-watching, bar+food+music Cons: NOISE, parking, price more

I'd Go Back 10/20/2002

Sullivan's is a pricey steakhouse, but I would go back. The service was very friendly and attentive. I can't remember the last time I had servers who actually seemed to care about me.They cared about how I wanted my steak although you need to tell them you want a red center to get medium-rare. The wine was excellent. A good jazz trio played in the bar providing a great ambiance. You don't feel bad about paying more when everything is right. Pros: service, food, ambiance Cons: side dishes are extra more

Overpriced! 8/12/2002

I have been to Sullivan's a number of times and have been disappointed everytime. When I have brought clients in for dinner I suggest that we dine at another steakhouse but always end up at this overpriced steakhouse. I have yet to have one postive experience with any part of the resturant. I would not suggest anyone eating there, it is like a BurgerKing, they want you in and out as soon as possible. more

Great Steakhouse! 6/27/2002

Great Food and a Great Place to dine with the boys. Pros: atmosphere, menu, side dishes more

Editorial
  • In Short
The interior speaks of old-school elegance, with dark-wood paneling, faux library and black-and-white photographs. The dining room faces an expansive open kitchen and the sealed-off, temperature-controlled wine room reveals a floor-to-ceiling selection of wines. A seasonal special, Maryland soft-shell crab, is battered in Japanese bread crumbs. The porterhouse steak is cooked perfectly, the meat tender and gently marbled, crusted with a flavorful blend of coarse pepper and salt.
