Cupcakes are good, but the lady who takes order provides the worst customer service. I've never experienced with someone who would argue back with you and blames it on you. However, when we received the order, we were missing one cupcake, and the lady wouldn't deliver it for the missing cupcake unless we purchase a minimum of $10.80. more

Awesome cupcakes 2/23/2010

I highly recommend the pistachio cupcakes. Each cupcake is $1.50. I noticed that the cupcakes made out of chocolate cake mix tended to fall apart prematurely, so keep this in mind if you're eating on the run. Pros: $1.50 per cupcake that tastes freshly made Cons: The chocolate cupcakes tend to fall apart easily. more

catch 22: bad customer service - great cupcakes 10/13/2009

Possibly the WORST customer service I have ever encountered in my 8 years in NYC. Obnoxious arrogant and down-right rude. And - possibly the BEST cupcakes I've ever had. I am very suprised at the negaive reviews of this place, I live 2 blocks away so i pass by this place every day and stop in at least 3 times a week. I get nothing but cheerful and prompt service each and ever time i go there from every employee that helps me. I have tried the cookies, cupcakes, and muffins and they are all excellent. The frosting can be a tad sweet at times but i just take some off now. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. just a side not to the people who complain about how the place has been past business hours and they wanted service and feel they were treated rudely....If you have ever worked in retail industry, places have buisness hours for a reason and if you show up too early or too late its your own fault..(see the review on the girl who wanted a birthday supcake after the store was closed)...yes customer service is important, but people do have lives they have to get too...take care Pros: Location/service/taste Cons: store size more

Worst service ever encountered 6/24/2009

Although I wasn't sold on their baked goods when I first tried them, I attempted to place an order at a colleague's suggestion for an office affair. The horror began when I placed the first call to find out the specifics of placing an order. Although I was put off by an employee's attitude, things got worse when the owner got involved. I was motified by her tone as she proceeded to berate me like I was her child and cancelled an order that I had placed with another employee. Had I read the reviews from other customers who found the owner reprehensible, I would have taken my business elsewhere (considering that I was never sold on ""saltysourdarkness"" as they should be known). Reading from the owners' bios, they should have learned manners when they learned to bake their cupcakes. I hope the owner that I spoke with remembers that a business' survival is never guaranteed, and she may have to go back to her ""gypsie"" lifestyle after she drives away customers. I would give this place a zero rating if I had the choice. more

I am a baker, and I live to find bakeries in my field. Cakes and cupcakes are my field and these people can bake. The Strawberry cupcakes are the BOMB!... The red velvet needs help... icing not right and the almond flavoring is too heavy and really not needed. Overall. GREAT! Moist... I will be back! So far, best cupcakes in Manhattan 1/6/2009

This is my first review on this site, so its obviously very important. I like to think of myself as a cupcake expert---in every city that I have visited or lived in around the world, I make sure to try cupcakes from every place possible. This store is lovely. Although I need to say that their chocolate almond frosting has a very strange flavor that I struggle to appreciate, the pumpkin and vanilla cupcakes make up for it. They are moist and interesting, and not at all generic. The store itself seemed a bit dirty each time I went there, but who really cares! Don't waste your money on Magnolia--this place is 10000 times better. Pros: Fun space, delicious cakes Cons: A little dirty more

Great delivery - great service 11/18/2008

I needed a gift in a pinch and Sugar Sweet Sunshine came through. I am in Boston, my friend is in New York and (of course!) I was late on the draw for her birthday gift. I called and was stoked to have a friendly voice on the other end as opposed to the main stream cupcake cafe's I had called before. Their turnaround was great, and their delivery was timely and reasonably priced. Best of all, no minimums! My friend really didn't need 18 cupcakes; by going with these guys I was able to have four delivered. All in all, it was a great experience and I am glad I wasn't caught up in the ""name"" of the bakery, but the service - it really paid off! Ill-tempered owners sour the experience 10/19/2008

Cupcakes are dry and not inspired at all (there are too many other great cupcake spots/ bakeries to make this your go-to). But what really sours the deal is the nasty and downright passive aggressive owner/employee that you must deal with when placing special orders. I have never in my life been treated as rudely as I was when trying to make an order. I will never go back there and beware: the customer is not only never right, but not treated with any respect either. Disgusted and Appalled!!! 9/12/2008

I live in the neighbourhood and I frequent this joint at least 3 times a week. I work in a hospital planning events for medical students, patients, and faculty and I work 12-14 hours a day. This morning (7:50am, as it's my only free time) on my way to work I stopped by to get some info about ordering for big events, but I was shocked and appalled by the treatment and behaviour of one of the owners. I apologised for bothering her and I politely asked her for a minute of her ""precious"" time. She kept cutting me off before I even got a word out and she asked me to leave in a very rude manner. In fact, she shooed me away like I'm some kind of animals. You don't even treat animals this way. Even the flour/sugar delivery guys was appalled and rolled his eyes at her nasty behaviour. more
