Just happened to find this place when bar hopping on Friday night. I like this place, not too crowded, cool decor, good drinks and good music. more

Overpriced drinks, Horrible Service 5/28/2006

I went to Sugar with one of my most fabulous friends because it's supposed to the be latest SF hot spot. I really wanted to like it....the drink menu looks really fun and the bar is strewn with Hershey Kisses and other sugary treats. What's not to like, right? Apparently, plenty. The drinks average around $9 each and the service was hands-down some of the worse I've ever had. Ever. The female bartender was so busy flirting with male customers, that it took a solid to 15 minutes to get served even though the bar was not even half-full, and when she did pay me some mind, she was outright hostile for no apparent reason. Let's just say that my first trip to Sugar will definitely be my last. more

Sugar Lounge a Little Sour 5/6/2006

Went here for the first time for a pre-dinner drink on a Saturday night. Nice space, but the whole vibe felt kind of odd - the place was half empty and very quiet, and the bartender could not have been more disinterested in making our drinks. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails and got a weak drink served in an indestructible IKEA-style glass with nary a garnish in sight (and that was after he forgot to make my drink in the first place). In keeping with the "sugar" theme, they did have several martini glasses filled with Hershey's Kisses throughout the bar, which I thought was a cute touch. It might have been just an off night, but I'm definitely in no rush to go back. more

Sugar Lounge? Not So Sweet. 4/30/2006

When Absinthe was packed on Saturday night, we decided to cross the street and have a cocktail at Sugar Lounge. Here's the deal - the cocktails weren't fantastic ot even really very good. Unbalanced, expensive and the bartender had just a hint of attitude that a new space like this just can't afford to have. The free appetizers (a crudite plate, tostito chips, salsa, chopped pepper jack and canadian bacon) were not only uninspired, but presented without any serving utensils. The space was nice and lounge-y, though two others in my party noted it smelled a little like cleaning fluid. I won't return here when Sauce and Absinthe are cheaper, more friendly and build a better cocktail. Visit Date: 3/13/2006 more
