Saturday Dinner 1/26/2008

Dinner date on an early Saturday evening found the restaurant about 3/4 full and the bar about half capacity. We sat in the bar (one of us smokes) and were served by a very nice and attentive young lady. The service was very good and we both remarked on the quality of the bread served before the appetizer and the meal. (The rye slice was wonderful.)\r We had steaks and they were prepared exactly to spec and the taste was equal to any found in Houston or the greater Metro area.\r Later, around 830p, the piano entertainer arrived (with a group of what appeared to be regulars) and the music was fun and diverting.\r A few drinks later, we left after having a thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience.\r Four stars for the food alone.\r Pros: Great steaks and drinks. Cons: A tad pricey. more

Great place, great food 10/19/2007

I dined here a few weeks ago with a business associate. I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff. I had the filet mignon - it was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The pianist was awesome...he took requests and knew every song we came up with. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Upon leaving I took a business card...I plan on returning soon with my husband and some friends. Pros: Atmosphere, service, food, entertainment Cons: if you don't like smoking, then you'd need to stay out of the piano bar more

No Comparison 9/7/2007

Generally my husband and I go into to town to Vic and Anthonys, Marks, Churrasscos etc however since we live in champions we decided to give Stongate a whirl. We dined at Stongegate on Friday, August 31st around 8 PM. When we pulled in, the parking lot was just about empty and the dining room also reflected our fears. While it was hard not to take that into consideration we were seated and began looking at the menu. It took 10 minutes to be greeted for our drinks and wine selection. The waitstaff is very unexperienced (eventhough he had worked there for 7 years) and extremely unattentive. Maybe we're used to the city experience but nonetheless it was unacceptable. We both ordered the surf and turf special. the steak was great but the lobster might as well have been from red lobster. It was over cooked from the broiling and was chewy. Our sides were asparagus and au gratin potatoes. The asparagus had absolutely no seasoning on it but rather a pile of sun dried tomatoes. They have great desserts. We had a lot of food left over and had it boxed up to go then headed over to the ""piano"" bar. Entertainment was decent and you could tell that their regulars were certainly not regulars at the restaurant. Our night was topped off by the waiter tossing out our leftovers instead of boxing therefore the exec chef said he would remake us everything..... no thanks!! Overall we were really disappointed in the ambience, service and food. We will stick to making the drive into the city where they know how to treat people the right way and the food is consistent. Pros: Close to Home Cons: Poorly Decorated, Poor Service, Quality of Food more

EXCELLENT 4/21/2005

My boyfriend and I have dined here numerous times and have had the best service anywhere each time. Our waiter, Mike, was incredible and the staff always treats us like VIP's. The food is always cooked perfectly and tastes even better. Even better is the location -- you don't have to drive downtown to get the fine dining experience. If you're not looking to spend a lot (which you will at dinner) they now serve lunches beginning at $7.95. more

Excellent 5/24/2004

We have eaten steaks all over Houston, and Stonegate is as good as any of them. The atmosphere is fun and lively in the piano bar or you can dine in main restaurant for a privacy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Pros: Food, Sides, Upbeat more

Ambiance was warm and friendly. Server seemed knowledgable and was very helpful. The food was the real treat- steak was best I've ever had anywhere. My companion had sauteed fish with lump-crab, lemon caper topping. It was fabulous! Wide selection of wines and freshly prepared desserts. We've found a new ""hang-out""- highly recommend it! Pros: Good value, warm ambiance, tasty food Cons: Parking lot was crowd more

Just Average 12/18/2003

Food was average, waiter was inexperienced. For over $20, I expect my steak to have some garnish, and $5 for three pieces of lettuce was a bit extreme. This restaurant has food that is no better than Steak and Ale, service slightly better than Denny's, and was a terrible value for my party of six, especially given the ""automatic"" 18% gratuity. I won't be going back. Pros: atmosphere Cons: parking, service, price more
