fun and fabulous architecture 11/6/2002

I always enjoy strolling up State St. Start at the shops and the Aquarium on the pier and have some lunch overlooking the ocean. As you then work your way up the street, you will see dozens of examples of Santa Barbara's wonderful architecture. The weather is always nice so I would suggest going anytime but Summer, a time of year which always finds the streets crowded. more

for tourists 6/12/2002

State street is a must see for anyone who visits Santa Barbara. But if you plan on going back for regualar visits, the throngs of tourists will probably bother you. Plenty of local and national stores to shop in, really fun restaurants, and even a museum or two. Parking's not too difficult if you follow the city parking lot signs. more

I went to Santa Barbara to visit a friend and we spent literally all day on State Street. We ate breakfast, shopped, ate lunch, went to the movies, people-watched, ate dinner, and went clubbing. It is a fun, relaxed day I still keep with me today! Pros: fun, exciting, convieneint more

With shopping, restaurants, movies and more, this is a great spot to spend the afternoon. The shops aren't anything you wouldn't find at the local mall, but the variety of al fresco dining is definitely a draw. Great for entertaining out-of-towners--especially parents, but don't expect too much. It's clean, pleasant and accented by pretty flowers, but far from the best Santa Barbara has to offer. Pros: al fresco dining Cons: touristy more
