Startech Computers

I've been dealing with this place since it was first opened. The format of the store has changed quite a bit, they sell whole systems, they do repair, and they also have quite a good Game room and they charge decent for the use of it. I used to buy Barebones systems from Newegg or Compusa, but the last four builds I've done, I bought the system from here. Rarely have I spent more than 400 dollars for system components, ands the parts Startech stocks are much better quality than other high-volume stores. more

Giving Startech one star is being generous. I went to them on at the advice of a friend in the business. The first time I went there to get my laptop repaired they did an ok job. Not the quickest turnaround but it did get fixed. That's where they earned thier star. Brought my wifes desktop and laptop to be repaired took them almost three weeks and somehow, even though the tech said it was impossible, downloaded all the files from someone elses computer on to ours. We didn't realize it until we saw documents and photos that were not ours. Brought it back and the guy was trying to tell me that it must be ours because it is impossible that they made that mistake. He went so far as to try and tell me that it must be our photos because I looked liked some of the people in the photos. ""See, blond hair like yours. That's not you? Looks like you. Unbelievable! Finally, while he was trying to explain that it was impossible that this could happen he came across the files that were ours on their system backed up for thirty days. Oops! Even after that he was still trying to tell me the files that were not ours, were in fact, ours. So I'm just wondering who else has our sensitive and private files on thier computers. So i suppose I should be happy that I got even more files back then when first dropped off. Love the other peoples pictures and files, thanks Startech! Doesn't end there. Really! Got the wifes laptop back from having the power conector fixed. Worked for five months and then started to have the same problem where the connection was shorting out. Finally it didn't work at all. Brought it back and the tech said that 30 days is the max that they will stand behind their work. Alot can happen in 30 days. This computer power connector lasted 6 years, Japan, Guam, and Iraq, during a war. The repair job didn't last 6 months in the living room! Lets see, $130.00 for almost 6 months that's just over $21.00 a month for their work. The may have been good at one time but no longer. Run, as fast as you can to a reputable facility, not this one. Startech is a horror story at best. Beware of the employees and owners giving themselves these raving reviews. This from a humble customer and you can trust it! more

StarTech's process eliminates not only your current issue, but also takes the time to make sure nothing will likely be recurring with each computer. Ok I had to rate it but it deserves NO STARS!! When StarTech opened its doors about 10 years ago in El Cajon, they were THE place to go for computer parts and computer service. Fast, friendly and efficient. But that was TEN YEARS AGO. Our last two encounters went like this: computer in for cleaning and service ? 3 to 5 days ? call computer ready ? yes. Went to pick up ? no not ready. Two days later, now day 7, ?problem with computer ? DVD player won?t work? ? gee it worked when it was dropped off to have a new graphics card put in ? oh gee, it?s a CD in the DVD player ? tech can?t tell difference between the two. Got computer back and it was sluggish, settings all messed with and this was with their ?quality control? being run. So hubster wants a new hard drive ? take it to StarTech again ? yes we need our heads examined but years of loyalty -- we felt give them another try ? dropped off on MONDAY ? to put a hard drive in and mirror the drives?finally after talking to Wendy on Saturday- again being told computer is ready only to find it is not on Friday ? got the computer back. It seems that the gaming room is more important to Wendy at StarTech than the customers through the door ?Will definitely try somewhere else from now on?I see Crystal Computers on Main Street has good reviews and more than one review. Prices here are reasonable. The service is good too. If you have any problems Startech Computers takes care of it. The people that work there are also knowledgeable and friendly. There's a computer cafe there with beverages. Pros: Good Service and Prices Cons: Limited product supplies. Go to Frys Electronics for a bigger selection. more
