Editorial review from Citysearch 1/22/2014

My daughter has been going to that gym for 6 years (tumbling 2 years and cheer 4 years) I personally do not mind the coaches getting on to my daughter if she needs it. As quick as all of the coaches are to correct or yell at a kid...they are quicker to be there when they need something, to congratulate them, or hug them when they are upset. I do not pay for them to be her friend. As far as having to stay all day for a competition, you are right, but why would you not want to stay and support all the kids? Cheer is a team sport and support is what all the kids need. It has been proven, the louder the crowd, the better they do!! Cheer is a commitment and this is very known going into it. If you can't commit, don't do it. When your child wins a national or international jacket, it's a big deal to them and they quickly forget about all the ""yelling"" and quickly appreciate all the hours, dedication and hard work from themselves, the team and coaches. more

Best all-around cheer experience 10/31/2008

I've read the reviews about Stars & find them to be totally false so I'm writing to shed some light on the truth. My daughter has been a member of this gym for going on 3 years. I found the coaches to be very helpful & knowledgeable when it came to All-Star Cheer & tumbling. I'm amazed at what she's learned & the advanced gymnist she has become in such a short time frame & it's all because of Stars. I will admit that the owner gets a little overwhelmed at times but it's only because she cares so much for the girls. She's not only a coach but also an involved member of the booster club & manages the gym. The time commitments one review talked about are true; but you'll find the same level of commitment for any All-Star Cheer team. Stars focuses on their improvement as individual athletes as well as team members & that's why the winning falls into place...not because they are ""all about winning no matter what the price"". The competitions are usually an all day affair but you'd have that for any competition team. The only reason Stars asks everyone to stay for all the Stars' performances is to enhance that TEAM spirit. The different team levels should support & cheer each other on...that's what good sportsmanship is all about. The comment complaining about having to stay to support the other teams should think @ what kind of values they're demonstrating for the kids. Cheerleading is an expensive sport no matter what gym you're at. You will always have to pay your cheerleaders competition fees, uniform expenses, etc. For the amount of time the coaches spend with the teams (sometimes 5-6 hrs a week), the costs is definetely worth it. For example, my son is in karate. He only gets 30 mins of instruction twice a week and his fees are very close to what I'm paying for 6 hrs of instruction a week at Stars. I'd say they are very reasonable/comparable to other gyms with All-Star Cheer teams. If you're looking for the best all-around cheer experience, then look no further. Pros: Experienced coaches, caring staff, a winning team, and everything mentioned above Cons: Small parking lot and parent waiting area more

Expensive 7/7/2008

I read the comments made about this gym. I paid a visit trying to enroll my daughter. It is quite dirty and had an awful smell coming from the vents. The owner was friendly and showed me around. But that is expected when I am the customer. Later that day I was talking with a neighbor. She stated that her daughter took there for several years and just quit this year to cheer for High School. She informed me that the commitment is awful and the coaches although nice were not professional. They go a little over board trying to be a pal to the kids and then turn on them so they will be experts at cheerleading. Everything to Stars is winning no matter what the price. She went on to tell me that the time commitments were just as bad as the price . The competitions last all day because it is mandated that you stay to watch all the squads compete. Queston there is who is the customer the coach, owner or the individual that is paying. My suggestion to all those that are paying stay and watch your daughter only you're paying the owners bills she's not paying yours. As for new equipment I am not sure what was there before but I have been through every gym in San Antonio and it looked about the same probably less equipment than most. more

Very professional training 5/22/2008

I have a niece at this cheer academy, and I cannot believe the remarks made by the person claiming the school was dirty and the staff was awful. I have attended almost all the competitions the teams have competed in and they are awesome. They have won several nationals and took two first place and a second place in Florida. The coaches, parents and cheerleaders work very hard to make the experience fun for everyone. The gym is not dirty and has recently been upgraded with high tech tumbling equipment. The owner loves those kids and parents and tries very hard to meet everyones needs physically and financially. Her coaches can be playful at times with the kids, but this is only to take away some of the tension the kids feel during competition season. I truly enjoy watching the Stars Vipers perform, and so do some of the other competing teams. more

Coaches are unprofessional 5/15/2008

My niece attended tumbling and cheerleading at Stars. The owner was not friendly and would de-grade the cheerleaders. Most of the coaches either sat around or were sleeping on the ground. They would have the girls stretch by themselves and then sit and instruct. The cheerleaders were always getting yelled at by one coach or the owner. The place was real dirty and crowded. The parking lot is worse than a traffic jam. Overall I would not recommend this place because they only care about winning in all star cheerleading and not about any of the girls that just attend for tumbling. If you are looking for a cheerleading squad and want to pay out the gazoo I would go there. The owner charges an arm and a leg for everything whether they attend or not. Pros: Cheerleading Squads do great in their competitions Cons: Dirty, unprofessional, and expensive more
