Editorial review from Citysearch 7/12/2013

I had a horrible experience with The Spoiled Lady, and I hope no one else has to endure the months of stress, disappointment, money, and time that this place cost me. I am not a wedding diva type--I simply wanted a pretty dress that fit me. There were major errors in alterations that ruined my dress and a complete lack of concern from the owners and the seamstress. Although I live in Nashville, I chose the Spoiled Lady in Columbia because they had the dress that I was looking for at the best price. However, it needed some alterations, and I was assured repeatedly by the owner, salesperson, and seamstress it was no problem to fit the dress to my size.During my first fitting, the wedding dress was gaping open in a way that was embarrassing and unacceptable. The seamstress, Kay, just looked at me nonchalantly, and said, “You’re too small for the dress. I can’t do anything.” She showed no empathy or desire to help. The owner as well stood by and watched this conversation and said there were no returns on dresses. We persuaded her to try again. She also never took measurements so I had to make a 1-hour drive on four different occasions. The final time she did not show up for the appointment. The salespeople kept saying she was just running late. However, when I called the seamstress, she said that she was not coming to the store, and the dress was there. When I tried on the dress,it seemed as if she had altered the dress in spite. She sloppily and hideously chunked both sides UNEVENLY. The salesperson apologized profusely, but could do nothing. Although the seamstress ruined the top and never even touched the bottom of it as promised, I decided that I could not trust the seamstress to make any further damages to the dress. I paid full price for my dress and the alterations, and I took the dress home. The owner was made aware of the problem, but she gave me no apologies or returned money.I get that mistakes happen, but the disrespect I endured was unacceptable more

I should have posted something on here long ago so that others would know how great The Spoiled Lady (TSL) really is, but it is easy to forget when everything goes seemlessly well! \r \r I've read some of these reviews and honestly if I had never been here before I wouldn't go after reading some of these frightening reviews! \r \r BUT!!!\r \r I have been here and I did do business with TSL and I had a wonderful experience!!! My dresses were perfect! The girls there did a beautiful job handling a not so very decisive bride and never seemed troubled by my many visits! They were super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond for me! In total I had 6 dresses (mine, 4 bridesmaids & a junior bm), one of which was ordered for a girl who was measured in Alabama in a prom store. It too fit perfectly.\r \r Almost everyone had to have slight alterations done and all them were done timely and very well.\r \r I know for a fact that I could not have gotten a better deal on what I picked out. I always try to do business locally, but weddings are super expensive and sometimes you must price shop and if you are a bride on a budget you should go check out the spoiled lady. \r \r My best advice for those concerned with these (-) reviews is to go in and check it out and make your own decision! If you want something done ""just so"" be assertive and convey it's importance to them and then make time to double check the details with person you spoke with initially, that is what I did and everything went beautifully and I know lots of other c-town brides who feel the exact same way I do about TSL!\r \r Thanks so much to all the ladies of TSL for all of your hard work! more

READ ME FIRST 11/6/2009

I have four issues all linked to one major issue. Poor Customer Service in a service oriented business. I can PROMISE that my family and I will NEVER RETURN. ISSUE ONE: It seemed as if no one was in charge. It took three trips with a billing statement from a third party, for the very elusive gentleman in charge, Tom, to admit and credit $80 that was missing from our account (billed but not credited). Billing also indicated that an extra vest was ordered. We only noticed this after we received an extra vest. When the issue was brought up to a salesperson, I was assured that we were not charged for the extra vest. Consulting the bills later, I am sure we were and am still waiting for the return of my $40 dollars. ISSUE TWO: Two out of four tuxedos were not sized properly. One person of our party was from out of state and was measured in a shop out of state (MI). Staff at Spoiled Lady claimed this was the reason that the tux ordered was the wrong size. Believable, only to someone who couldn't read otherwise. The measurements ordered did not match the measurements given (shirt and pants). The pants were poorly hemmed and tightened to the max. The replacement shirt noticeably did not match the other three (tiny pointed collar versus full collar and the ribbing one the front was different). The sizing of the other tux couldn't be excused as someone else measuring improperly (Spoiled Lady did the measuring). The salesperson on the morning of the wedding hassled the family member sent to pickup the hemmed tux because he was not the bride or groom even after we received the okay for them to do the pickup. ISSUE THREE: My wife's dress required a hoop skirt because of the length. This was billed for months earlier, but never ordered. My wife, unknowingly, had used one the store had, even up to the day before when she went in for her final fitting. As she was redressing, the salesperson packed her dress to go. When the dress was open the next day, the hoop skirt was missing. After phone calls and an emergency trip, by the same benevolent family member, a nonadjustable hoop skirt 6 sizes too small was sent with the assurance that it was the one she had used the day before. When this was discovered, phone calls were made, and no one answered the phone at 1:55 pm on a Saturday (store hours as given are till 3 pm on Saturday). The result of this hindrance delayed the wedding for over half a hour (expensive when you count everyone who was already on the clock; not to mention very upsetting to the bride). The Monday after (Saturday wedding), both mothers (bride and groom) went to return the tuxedos and hoop skirt. The Spoiled Lady staff haggled with them for over an hour on the hoop skirt. They argued that the hoop skirt was used and couldn't be returned. HELLO, it was used when it was picked up and my wife never wore it (six sizes too small). Only then did it come to light that my wife's hoop skirt had never been ordered. The staff then tried to justify reasons not to return the money (forty measly dollars when the bill was seven shy of fifteen hundred). On a positive note, ISSUE FOUR: (related to issue one) The number one reason that I will never return is that Tom flat out lied on Monday to both mothers (bride and groom). He denied that my wife and I had any problem over the $80. It took me threatening to call Visa and dispute the charge before he acknowledged it . He also blamed my wife for her hoop skirt not being ordered. Like it was her responsibility, she was measured and paid; they didn't order it, period. I do not believe the customer is always right, but I do believe in fairness. Blaming the customer for your own poor management and organization skills is not a healthy or profitable business practice in today's economy. Pros: Reasonable Dress Prices Cons: Utterly Lousy Sevice more

Amazing Staff 9/5/2009

I am a bride who got robed by Ricky from The Bridal Gallery of Franklin... if you haven't heard the disaster he has made its unreal. I feel incredibly blessed to have heard about The Spoiled Lady of Columbia and what they are doing to help brides like myself. My bridal portraits are in two weeks and my dress wasn't altered, they had me come in on a day they were going to be closed to help me, and I'll have my dress in time for pictures! Not only that they have tracked down my bridesmaids dresses and are selling them to us at costs since all of my girls are having to pay twice. They will not be gaining anything off of helping me. They are professional, sincere and have been wonderful! I couldn't say more wonderful things about them, and their willingness to help others. Thank you to The Spoiled Lady of Columbia! You have helped me rest assure that everything will be okay and as a bride this is priceless! Pros: Extremely helpful and kind hearted more

Amazing Selection and Great Customer Service 1/19/2009

I am getting married this year and came to Spoiled Lady to look at wedding gowns. I am completely clueless when it comes to all of this wedding stuff so I brought my future sister-in-law, who wants to someday be a wedding consultant, with me to this boutique. Wow! I absolutely fell in love with this place and the girls who helped me pick my dress there! I was there for hours trying on dresses and 95% of them I loved - it was very hard to decide. Thanks to the girls at Spoiled Lady (Emily, Linzy and Amy) I was able to narrow my choices down and I finally chose THE DRESS. It's BEAUTIFUL and I cannot wait to wear it when I walk down the isle! The girls at Spoiled Lady were so helpful and friendly, not to mention FUN - they most definitely lived up to the name... I felt spoiled! Also, the prices are very reasonable - I felt like I was stealing from the place. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a phenomenal experience and selection of wedding gowns and formal wear. I will be going back to Spoiled Lady to choose my bridesmaid gowns and tuxedos. Oh, and I have to add that while I was there, young girls who have prom this spring were there trying on dresses - the dresses for this occassion were all beautiful as well! more

Very Disappointed with Performance and Customer Service 12/6/2008

I would strongly recommend going elsewhere...especially if you want the invitations you actually requested.\r \r Dee made changes to my wedding invitations without approval from me (she didn't even ask me!). The following were her changes:\r \r They were printed in the wrong font (Dee said that she forgot to write down what font I wanted)\r Our monogram was not on the invitation OR the envelope (Dee said there was no room for it after she printed it)\r The large vellum wrap was cut down to a small circular wrap that Dee ""created"" and she put her own ""monogram"" which was just our names in a scripted font on this small wrap\r There was a crystal/diamond that was supposed to be at the bottom of the invite that was not included (Dee said that she forgot about this)\r We were overcharged (they added on an additonal printing charge at the end that was never previously mentioned)\r We never saw a completed proof (The day we finally were going to pick up the invites, Dee didn't even have ONE ready...not even a sample for us to look at.)\r She used the wrong stamps (she used ones that were too expensive for our postcards)\r We still have not received our programs that we've already paid for AND the remaining 10 invitations/envelopes that we also paid for \r The invitations came in severely late (they were promised to be in within 2 weeks...it took almost 2 months) and were promised on two different occassions to be ready at certain time and were not (there store is a 30 minute drive away from me. So much wasted gas driving down there for no reason!)\r \r Now, Dee will not talk to me. I only get her vm or ""she is currently with a customer"" when I call the store. She is avoiding me. \r \r To say that I am incredibly unhappy is an understatment. They have handled the situation in an unbusiness-like and unethical manner. In a situation where they should take responsibility, they have chosen to avoid me and the matter altogether. Do not do business with this poorly run establishment.\r Cons: poor customer service, poor business skills, poor performance more

great service 12/29/2007

my daughter got married in 2001 and we bought her dress from spoiled lady and had to have alot of alterations done, we were very pleased with them. They did excellent work on her dress and you could not tell that it had been altered. They treated my daughter like she was a princess everytime that we went into the store. I had no clue that you needed to wear certain types of bra's with different dresses and they showed us everything that we needed as well as having jewlery on hand to compliment the gown. When people write negative remarks they need to understand that other people are looking at this information and should think accordingly. My friends daughter is getting married in Sept and almost didn't choose this store because of things that were said about the alterations. I'm sure glad she called and asked me about them. Everything with this store was great, there gowns are very high class and the customer service is great. Thanks for a wonderful experience.\r Paula Johnson more

DEE IS GREAT!!!!!!!!! 12/12/2007

I read the lady who was dissatisified and was in awe!!!! I planned my whole wedding , dress..invitations...favors etc with Dee and never once felt like I was being treated hasty and sweety if you go to Nashville those ""expert"" seemstresses cost over $100 so I understand why you would be upset but did you stop to think that it could be your attitude??? just wondering not trying to be hasty... but to all up and coming brides Go here I went all over Nashville Franklin Brentwood etc... and the reason that i chose them was because of the customer service there are always going to be people who make it a habit of finding something to complain about so go in and make your on opinion and I'm sure you will recieve the great quality and personal service that I did and what and amazing Wedding we had thinks to Dee and her staff!!!!!!!!!!!\r \r ~~~Jessie, Spring Hill, TN more

Great Customer Service!! 9/4/2007

I recentley went into the Spoiled Lady to look around, and was very satisfied with the employees and customer service. They were more than willing to help, and let me try on several dresses. I found my dress and bought it that day. They pinned my dress and I picked it up the following week. My alterations were fine and they didn't charge me any extra to steam it expressing this was a service they offered for their customers. I had only been to one other bridal shop in Nashville and they were going to charge me over 100.00 for the alterations and then additional for the steaming. I highly reccomend this store to any bride who is looking for personal service. more

DONT DO BUSINESS HERE! 8/6/2007

Be warned-they have GREAT prices on their dresses and alterations. Go ahead an order your dress, but DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT have your dress altered by their ""expert seamstress."" I was 1 of 9 bridesmaids in a wedding, and over 1/2 of us were unhappy with the alterations. I needed a strapless dress taken in from the front. Instead of taking it into the seam that was already in the area, they did the darts on the side between the breast and underarm, causing it to look like you had a misshapen breast! also the dress was too long, even tho i took my shoes and stood there to be measured . The worse part of my exp. with them is that when i called to express my dissatisfaction, Dee (manager or owner) proceed to tell me it was my fault somehow that they did such a poor job. When she said there was nothing they could do about it anymore, i told her that she could offer me a refund, or at least a partial refund ( i paid $20) and she yelled at me, saying she would NOT be giving me a refund, because i could have told them sooner and they would have corrected the problem. I live in an hr away. I told her i couldnt drive there to drop it off, and then return to pick it up. Her attitude about it was just oh well - thats your problem. she did say that she ""would"" have offered to drive here to pick up the dress, but therefore cant offer to give me $10 back. I had to pay an additional $20 for another seamstress to correct the problem. In conclusion-if you want to be treated with poor customer service, then this is the place for you. i say, go with another place that will stand by thier service, and not let $10 get in the way of a happy customer or an unsatisfied customer that will post nothing but negative feedback on sites as such:) oh & the tuxedos are not any better! buttons were falling off. Of course Dee didnt like that i brought this to her attention too, & dismissed it saying they rent them from another place. i suggested they double check B4 a customer takes them home. Pros: Good prices on dresses compared to David's Bridal Cons: Poor service from management and incompetent staff more
