Southern Oaks Animal Hospital: Dean W Kent DVM

I took zoe to the doc because she had areas of haif loss from her scratching. the areas were scabby and raw. 1st thing i told the doc was my son and daughters dogs have the same problem and the dogs are not related. my daughter had already taken her dog 2 times and was told allergy the dog still has same problem months later. So after the doc looked over my zoe all that she kept saying is flea allergy. so I said how can 3 differant dogs have the exact same problem and be a flea allergy. BTW never seen 1 flea on any of the dogs. My response not logical due to 3 dogs have same problem and no fleas. but she insisted and tried selling me flea prevention. I walked out 75 dollars poorer and a dog still with the same problem. It wasnt a flea issue. (any body could have figured that one out). So I called my daughter and told her and she informed me that her dog chewed himself so bad that blood was everywhere. she took him to a differant vet and found out it was a fungal infection. so I call southern back and they would want me to come back and have a test ran more money of course just to make sure it was a fungal infection. wow I had to find the problem and they want to charge me again for not finding it the first time. Truley felt like i was swindled out of my money. Thank god daughter has some medicine left and i can save my money from these shasters. Just dont recommend this place. esp with the young vets who think they are so smart yet lack experience. thanks again for taking all my money and doing nothing for my dog. deborah hope mills more

I have taken my "baby" (a silver tip chinchilla Persian) to Southern Oaks for the last 14 years and have always had a positive visit. But since he has gotten older he has had some UTI problems and needed medication. Having a difficult time keeping the meds down Dr.Dean offered some one administer the meds if I would bring him in daily. What a blessing that was. All of his staff have shown a great deal of understanding towards my feelings when it comes to Sammy. I feel like the cost is in reason compared to what others charge and the care they give to all the animals and their owner is "priceless". If I had any request for change it would be to keep the cats separate from the loud barking dogs when hospitalized because it's very stressful to the cats. Over all I highly recommend Southern Oaks to any animal lover because they really care for both you and you pet. more

I take my babies to Southern Oaks Animal Hospital in Hope Mills on Rockfish Road. Everyone there is wonderful and they're not that expensive. I will tell you this, Do not go to Reilly Road Animal Hospital. I have had the WORST ever experiences there and several other people I know that too. Just MHO, though. Monica =) more

The people here are so friendly and you can tell they truly care about animals. They are quick to help and even offer a payment plan (with a down payment) if that is needed. Not many vets do that anymore. It's saved several of my friends pets lives. They are a little high price wise but considering you get such great service by such caring people it's a fair trade off. more
