Editorial review from Citysearch 6/28/2012

I have been going to see Dr. Martin for the last two years for primary care only and was ok with the services. The first incident I had was trying to get my FMLA paperwork completed by the doctor - he went out of town and didn't complete the paperwork or give to anyone else and then it took 2 more weeks just to have a nurse complete it after calling ME for the details.\r Then, the last straw!\r I called their office at 10:30 while I was on the way to my 10:45 a.m. visit and stated I MIGHT be 5 minutes late. They informed me at that time that if I was going to be more than 15 minutes they had the right to reschedule my appointment - no problem I thought. I signed into their facility at 10:51 according to their clock - it took me longer because there was no parking and I had to drive around a while to find a space. The place was crowded with people. I sat there for 25 minutes after they took my payment and no one was left in the waiting room so I asked how much longer it would be - I was told the Dr.'s nurse should be with me shortly. 10 minutes later the nurse comes to get me, takes my vitals and tells me it will be a while. So I wait another 5 minutes (now having been there 45 minutes total) and asked the nurse how much longer she thought it would be - she didn't know. I asked what the hold up was and I am told that I must have been signed in late so she went ahead and took the 11:00 appt in before me and she didn't know when the doctor would get to me. I saw when the 11:00 checked in and she was there AFTER me! I asked to speak with the doctor for a split second and was told there was nothing the nurse could do. I then asked for the doctors email and was told by 3 different people the doctors don't have email - what, do they send notifications to him via telegraph? GIVE ME A BREAK and a point blank lie! So rude - I will never go back! I have never been treated like this at any medical clinic and can't believe that people are willing to go there when the staff is so rude. more

Miserable experience. 9/22/2011

I have been a client for months and a patient of Dr. Alward, and I signed my husband up for an appointment for the first time when he became very sick with a 100 degree fever. He became lost on the way to the office and arrived at the wrong doctor's office. When he called the clinic to explain that he would be half an hour late, the receptionist informed him that because he had missed his first appointment, the clinic would never treat him as a patient. No concern for his condition. Nothing. I was appalled and immediately terminated my relationship with the clinic. If you want a clinic that treats read more more

Good Practice 11/15/2009

I recommend Dr Weidemann. He is knowledgable and right on mark. However, everybody knows he is good, so it can be difficult to get an appointment. Therefore, I often end up getting another Dr and I am not always pleased. They are very good at scheduling so wait times are short, and you never feel rushed by any of the Drs. Pros: Great schedules and some excellent Drs Cons: Not all Doctors are great more

South Austin Medical Center - - The BEST!! 8/20/2008

I've been a patient at South Austin Medical Center for over 40 years. I've never had a problem getting an appointment (even on the day I call, if necessary), and most people I know say their experience is vastly different. I'm hoping Dr. Graves never retires, although I know that's nonsense. He's been there since Dr. Dittert started the clinic (I went to Dr. Dittert first), so he will retire eventually. I've seen several other doctors at SAMC, and been pleased with them (except for two (2), and I think the problem was a conflict of personality, not their medical practices). All of the staff seem to be very caring about patients, and very serious about their profession. I recommend them to anyone who needs a doctor. more

Good experience 5/20/2008

I recently became a patient at this clinic. The wait time before the appt. was minimal; in fact, I was still filling out new patient forms when they called me back. I saw Dr. Smith and liked her. She listened to me during the visit and I didn't feel rushed. It wasn't a particularly long appointment and I wouldn't describe it as warm and fuzzy like some of my experiences with doctors in the past (waaaay in the past, given the state of medical care today), but Dr. Smith ordered the appropriate tests and refilled my medication over the phone without a hassle. The office feels old-style, but that is kind of what I like. I'd rather have an attentive doctor in an aging building than one who doesn't give me the time of day in a shiny new environment. more

Doctor for LIFE! 4/2/2008

Dr. Martin is also my doctor (and my husband's), and I can't sing his praises enough. He is extremely intelligent and extremely friendly. On several occasions, I have called the office simply asking for advice or information from their staff and Dr. Martin personally returned my calls, and QUICKLY! Usually the wait time for an appointment isn't too long either. He was recommended to me by a friend, and I always recommend him to others. Pros: nurses are fantastic, Doctor is amazing and kind Cons: phone staff could be *slightly* friendlier more

Wonder family doctor 8/2/2007

Dr. Martin is a great doctor and a really nice person. As soon as you meet him, you feel at ease. He never seems like he has one foot out the door. He will take the time to explain everything and he is happy to answer any and all of your questions. He has a policy where if you feel ill and need to seem that day, you will be assured an appointment by the afternoon. His staff is equally fantastic - especially Linda who was particular prompt and proactive in helping me sort out some issues. There is one consistently surly woman sometimes at the front desk - do not allow her to misrepresent this otherwise stellar staff. Pros: His bedside manner is perfect, parking is no problem Cons: One surly, portly woman occasionally at the front desk more

Awesome doctor! 2/21/2007

I have been seeing Dr. Martin for over three years. He is a very smart man who stays up-to-date on new medical information. He does not mince words when it comes to your health. Be prepared for honest information presented in an easy to understand manner. I find him very funny and recommend you come with a sense of humor. He always has a story to tell and he takes time with each patient to establish a rapport. He honestly cares about his patients and I can always count on him when I need him. I highly recommend him. I moved to Round Rock and I work in north Austin, but I still drive ALL the way to south Austin to see him. I know he is interested in helping me be the healthiest person I can be. Pros: Lily and Jolene Cons: Hold music more

Caring, Knowledgeable, Personal, Great with Children, Quick and thorough, does not over medicate! 10/3/2006

I have been taking my family to see Dr. Martin for several years. I moved from Austin to Bastrop and still remain as a patient. He cares and creates a personal relationship between himself and your family. My children wont go to anyone else. I am always able to get right in and he always has the time to talk about what you need. He does not over medicate. He is always up to date on new medicine and research. We will continue to be patients of Dr. Martin until he retires (not anytime soon) or moves away. We are a military family and he has always supported us. My husband deployed and Dr. Martin monitored my health and my childrens. \r Joining Dr. Martin as a patient would be a smart move on your part!\r Just tour their facilities! Pros: Great loving care! Cons: Office staff needs a lighter attitude. more
