Editorial review from Citysearch 9/12/2013

I've been coming to the shop since 2009 for various piercings and in February 2013 I also got a tattoo there. Every experience I've had was wonderful from the staff to the cleanliness of the shop and right down to the quickness of each body mod. Prices were fair. Aftercare instructions were always very clear & easy to follow and I never had any trouble with anything I had done. I recommend this place to every person who says anything about wanting a piercing or tattoo. I'll most definitely be coming back! more

I can just say now, south side tattoo is the fricken BEST! in my opinion. I first went to go get my belly button pierced and i was so afraid because i had it done before and it took forever for the guy to do it so it didn't hurt for a split second it hurt for like 40 seconds. So i went to south side tattoo. When you walk in its beautiful and made up wonderfully the prices are ok but they are completely worth it. Dan did my belly piercing and he did it in less then 15 seconds he was amazing. Thanks Dan!! I recommend this place for everyone's first and last tattoo and piercing. :) more

south side tattoo 11/29/2011

They're absolutely terrible. I had my bridge pierced there and was given a bottle of iodine for aftercare, which eventually made my piercing so unbelievably irritated i'm sure I have scar tissue now. He also told me NOT to use sea salt, which is ridiculous advice. I have other facial piercing so I should have known better but you are supposed to be able to trust the people doing this job and at South Side Tattoo you can't. He did a great job of piercing and getting the bar perfectly straight but the staff is just absolute rubbish. more

Terrible Experience 4/6/2011

Absolutely terrible experience. The customer service here is just unreal. The 'gentleman' that we spoke to in order to put down a deposit for our tattoos was very short with us and unprofessional. He did not have any personable skills working with the public nor did he act interested. I'm not sure why he works there to begin with. If he is the 'face' of the establishment, I've come across many of people that wont go back here just because of their experience walking in the door. \r \r He quoted us outrageous prices for small tattoos and would not help guide us in any direction with a tattoo we were asking professional advice about. He was not interested in giving us the time of day. He told us to call back the next day to consult him about what we were going to get for one of the tattoos and when we spoke with him the next day he was a JERK. (for a lack of other words) He rushed us through the whole conversation and started saying that we were liars and told us that even if we made the tattoo less detailed and without color it would be the SAME price?!!?!? He was raising his voice & speaking to us like we were garbage. Its just unbelievable to me. He for one, had no visible tattoos, and when I go somewhere for a tattoo I'd like to see someone who actually knows what the heck theyre talking about and WANTS the business. Or for this matter WANTS to keep up a good image/reputation. \r \r Not only was he rude, the prices here are OUTRAGEOUS. I understand they do 'good work' but thats a given when you want to get a tattoo done, you want good work for a good price. They make a killing there in one day because they charge almost 3x's as much as a good tattoo parlor, and their customer service SUCKS. I'd recommend American Tattoo in Verona or Bay City Tattoo in Erie~ ! \r more

Best Tattoo Shop in Pittsburgh 3/30/2011

I have two tattoos and a piercing done at southside tattoo. Both tattoos were done by Garrick. The tattoos may be expensive, but I'd rather pay for good work than have to pay again to get bad work fixed. I've been pleased with all of the work I've gotten done. Many of my friends have gotten work done here as well, and I've never seen anything bad come from this place. The artists are skilled and very talented, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get quality work done. more

Quick, but expensive 1/23/2011

I wanted a tattoo of a shamrock for years, but wasn't old enough. So on my 18th birthday in December I went to South Side Tattoo to get it done, because that's where everyone told me to go. I walked in and stood in the wait area for about ten minutes before anyone looked at me, and when the receptionist finally came over to me, he wasn't very nice. He just seemed like he didn't care about me, or my business. It wasn't a good start. more

not impressed 1/12/2011

i got a memorial tattoo done by veronica and it cost me $260 which is more than my other 4 put together. it was supposed to be a hello kitty with angel wings and a quote but it looks horrible! she dug way too deep with the needle and it scarred really bad dispite my following the care instructions. other than that she was a really nice person and nice to talk to and the lettering on my tattoo is flawless. i have an appointment to get it fixed free of charge so hopefully ill have it the way i want after today. more

terrible experience 10/7/2010

south side tattoo's counter people are terrible. the guy that was working when i went to get my tattoo was so rude to me it totally ruined my entire experience. his name might have been randy, although the other guy who was working when i scheduled my tattoo and left a deposit was equally as terrible. amy did my tattoo and i love it, but i won't be getting another one from her unless she goes to a different shop. i think the fact that they have a sign that reads ""please be patient with our receptionists, they are patient with you"" is enough of a warning/clue that they're absolutely horrible people. i won't be going back. more

Veronica Gave me my life back... 7/23/2010

I was on my third try at covering up horrible renditions of my tattoo... I had yet to have anyone LISTEN TO ME. Maybe because she is a woman and could understand me, or maybe because she wanted to actually give me what I wanted instead of prove something on MY skin... whatever her reasoning.... she allowed my to have my body back with a beautiful work of art - exactly as I had wanted in the first place. I wish I had found her first, but such is life. I highly recommend her - she is experienced, quick, and conversational. Just a great experience... I WILL be going back to finish my other tatt and my husband is going to her too.... As far as cleanliness.... it is a tattoo parlor - not an OR. Everything she had was pulled out of sterile packaging and I wasn't planning on eating off the floor so I thought it was a pretty cool place. Will never go anywhere else as long as she is inking... Pros: LISTENED TO ME - Artistic, Competent, Experienced Cons: none that I can think of.... more

Nice work, crappy experience 7/15/2010

I decided on a tattoo that i wanted and wanted it immediately. I was able to walk in on a Thursday night and get inked. It was kind of a crappy experience. I love my tattoo, but I definitely felt like I was in a stereotypical tattoo parlor. Filthy--I mean, I didn't want to touch anything (covered in the grime of cigarette smoke) and I felt really rushed and pushed through from design to completion....someone else did the stencil and some random artist did my art. I don't know, I love the tattoo that I have, but I won't go back there for future work. They also didn't check my ID, or have me sign anything. Hmm. I WILL, however, go to Black Cat tattoo. I think the work was superior, the prices better, and the experience was awesome. Pros: Nice work, walk-in day-of tattoo Cons: Impersonal, dirty, smokey, expensive, unpleasant more
