Wonderful I went to Soon and received the best color and cut that I have ever had. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I love my new look. I will look forward to returning in the future. more

Inconsistent 9/27/2010

I went to Soon after reading the great reviews and saw Kristy, who gave me a fantastic haircut. She also did a single process color, that was so-so, but the cut was so good I was looking forward to returning. When I did go back, unfortunately the cut was now a let down as well. She didn't seem to remember at all how she cut my hair less than seven weeks earlier, and gave me an uneven choppy mess with too short bangs. And, once again, the color was not worth the money. more

customer no more 4/22/2009

My son has had his hair cut at Soon for several years--the hipster stylists have been great with my long-haired pre-teen hippie. But we just had his hair cut by a stylist named Christine who was as pushy and customer-unfriendly as they come. Although we've been long-time customers of the salon, she insisted on charging much more than we've paid before and claimed that she personally would have to pay the salon owner if she honored the kids' reservation I had made. (my son turned 13 a few months ago, a cut-off no one had mentioned.) During the cut she hardly spoke with my kid, who ended up feeling thoroughly uncomfortable. Pros: casual sweet atmosphere, good quality/price Cons: customer-unfriendly stylist more

Chopped it all off---in a good way! 11/5/2008

I used to have long locks...and guess what happened? Despite my friends' protests, I got bored and wanted to cut them off. When I went to Kristy (after my roommate recommended the salon), she followed my orders to 1) not make me look twelve 2)not give me a mom cut and 3)make my cut easy and manageable when worn natural or straightened. She succeeded in providing a gorgeous, layered cut that really represents ME as a person. It's unique, hip and will suit me well in my east village haunts. I feel so relieved that Kristy came through and gave me an age-appropriate, cool haircut...I'll definitely be back for the $15 trim. Hopefully she won't move to Italy --she was telling me that she's considering it--but I selfishly hope she stays at Soon. Pros: great music! more

Good Cut- Ferocious Horrible Damaging Color!!! 7/18/2008

I went to Ruthi and was pretty satisfied with the haircut she gave me, so if you're only going for a haircut - I have nothing bad to say Pros: ruthi gives good haircuts- affordable- $10 inbetween trims Cons: HORRIBLE DAMAGING COLOR- Don't get your color done here more

Emilee and Anne are amazing 4/22/2008

Anne Stewart has been cutting my hair at the Soon on 11th street for several years and I could not be happier with her skills, she is great at knowing exactly what it is I am seeking even though I'm sure I'm not very good at communicating it, she is also terribly interesting and very warm and inviting, she is a pleasure to be stuck in one spot for a long time with. She has also styled the hair for a few of my friends wedding parties and her updo's are classy, flirty, and last all night long. Pros: hip and stylish salon with amazingly talented stylists Cons: none at all more

highly recomended! 8/16/2007

I've been going to Soon for years, and have never left there with a hair cut I didn't like. Ask for Ellen -- she is GREAT!! more

Excellent colorist 7/31/2007

I got my cut & color at Soon with Jenn in December 2006. It is the best color I every received. Jenn listened to every thing I asked for and delivered to the ""T"". The best part was that the color stayed for a good 4 months. Typically I need a new coloring in under 3 months. Pros: Jenn is an exellent colorist. Cons: Not crazy about the quality of the cut for the price I paid more

lacking in customer service 6/20/2007

I had been to Soon Beauty Lab on numerous occasions and always seemed to get pretty decent service. Until recently...I had gone for my haircut then made an apt. to come back for a $10 allover trim. I made the apt. and booked a week in advance. The day of the apt. My stylist was running late, but I didn't mind waiting. more

Soon Beauty Lab 3/25/2007

I always wanted to try out this salon because it looks so clean, cute, and stylish. The reviews on this website were pretty good and sounded legitimate so I gave it a try. I wound up with Amy, a senior stylist who was really friendly and talked to me the entire time she gave me a haircut. She was good in terms of listening to what my hair type is like and what hair cuts are definitely not compatible with it. Together, we decided to keep my hair length, but to re-style it. I walked out of the salon with a pretty haircut, and was quite pleased. The cost was $80, and I wound up tipping $15. Two days later, while drying my hair, I realized that my stylist had given me layers that were an inch shorter, and choppier, on the left side of my head. I tend to hide the mistake by always straightening my hair, or tying it up. This stylist is Soon's ""senior stylist"", yet somehow doesn't check the lengths well enough to realize the mistake. Sure, the mistake isn't always noticeable, but it shouldn't happen at a place that charges $80 for a cut. Conclusion: cute salon, nice stylists, but I don't trust it enough to go back for a second haircut. Pros: Good atmosphere, friendly staff Cons: Unprofessional haircut mistake more

Excellent cut and excellent rates! 2/1/2007

Last night was my first time at Soon and I have never been so thrilled with a haircut! I came here because my former stylist (at another salon) stopped listening to me and I'd be miserable for a few weeks until my cut grew out a bit, which is ridiculous, especially because of what he was charging me. Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and talented staff, great prices Cons: It's a bit off the beaten track--not too many trains nearby more

Pleasant experience 12/2/2006

I got my first haircut in New York at Soon a few days ago, and the experience was overall pleasant and enjoyable. I was greeted by the receptionist and my hair stylist promptly as I arrived for my appointment. My stylist was very friendly and patient - she listened to my requests attentively and explained to me what she was planning to do to give me the haircut I asked for. I haven't been to other salons in New York, so I can't compare, but I'm happy with the results. Pros: good customer service, attentive stylist, affordable haircuts Cons: could use some rennovation more

Soon Gave Me Peace of Mind 10/30/2006

A few days ago I went to another very highly rated salon in NYC. When I left, the cut looked all right, but since I never style my hair, it looked different when I let it air dry. It turns out that I don't like choppy cuts with chunky layers. I don't blame they stylist since I had given him a lot of freedom (I was tired of my bland hair), and on someone else it'd probably have been fine, but when I found myself ""trimming"" bits and pieces for the 3rd time to try and make it look more uniform, I knew I had to schedule an emergency appointment. I called Soon and got an appointment for 2 hours later the same day. I arrived a few minutes early and was immediately shown to the changing room. When I came out, I was led to the sink, where Kristina washed my hair and gave me a nice scalp massage. Then I explained to my stylist, Kumi, what had happened and that what I wanted was softly graduated layers, and that I wanted to lose as little hair as possible as it was already a little shorter than I wanted. I knew this might be difficult because she was definitely going to have to cut some off in order to fix it, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped it would be all right. Kumi seemed to understand what I wanted and went to work. By the time she'd blown my hair dry, I was feeling a lot better about my style. The sides in particular look very nice, with the softly graduated layers I had been looking for. The back was harder to fix because of how the original stylist had cut the layers, but she did a good job there too. Considering the limitations she had to work with, I think she did a very good job. I'll just say that earlier in the day I had reached the point where I literally could barely think about anything except my hair and how much I disliked it, and after my appointment with Kumi, I felt like I could relax and breathe again. Kumi herself is very nice. She's also polite and listens to what you want, and asks for clarification if necessary. Highly recommended! Pros: Fixed my botched haircut; scalp massage; no wait; cheap trims; friendly stylist Cons: $70 is a bit steep for me, but for NYC in general, it's probably quite fair; $125 highlights unfortunately are out of my league more

They let you have long hair!!!! 1/10/2006

I actually live in Boston but get my haircut at Soon because they are the only salon that actually lets you have long hair! They also give you a cool haircut but its also down to earth and pretty too (you know how a lot of places give you a ""cool"" haircut--a lot of times it is really generic and doesn't fit your face and looks stupid). It's pricey but to me worth it, because I actually love my haircut and it is done well so lasts almost 3 months!! Also the salon is laid back, you're not in some wierd uptight salony place. Pros: great haircut, easy, comfortable Cons: kinda expensive more

Flawless experience!!!! 10/30/2004

After my regular stylist started overcharging, I was faced with the impossible task of finding a new one. I chose Soon because it's close, and every time I walk by it looks cute and inviting. I made an appointment with Ellen on recommendation from Citysearch reviewers. Without waiting, Allison gave me an unexpected aromatherapy scalp massage before shampooing that (I swear) totally got rid of my raging hangover headache. Ellen and I came up with a style together, and rather than speeding, she kept me for an extra 45 mins, carefully reviewing my cut from each angle. She also showed me how to style it without me having to ask. Now I can't GET it to look bad (I've tried). On top of that, all the stylists are incredibly sweet, and they play great music. (Clinic? Le Tigre? Yeah.) I ADOOOOOORE Soon and am NEVER going anywhere else again. Pros: Stress-free, Pleasant, Good value more

Happy experience 10/13/2004

Attracted by the $10 trim policy and some good reviews, I made an appointment completely blind, got in the same evening---and got one of the best haircuts of my life! Carla took great care in making certain she understood what I wanted, and completely ""got' my hair worries: I have thick wavy hair that can curl in wayward ways, so a good haircut is a minor miracle for me. Carla's natural hair is curly AND she completely knew what she was doing. Friendly salon as well, very laid back. Pros: excellent value more

Beyond Satisfied 9/13/2004

After having my difficult hair cut by Melissa (owner) at Soon, everyday has been a good hair day. She understood exactly what I wanted and executed my ciof just as she promised. I really enjoy going back for great haircuts, color and conversation. Pros: friendly staff, nice atmosphere more

Yay! Great haircut! 7/20/2004

I was very nervous about choosing the right salon in intimidating NYC, but I made the right choice. For $45, a junior stylist gave me a great cut, no pressure just good advice, relaxed conversation and a fresh atmosphere. The tea tree scalp massage was oh so relaxing as well. I plan to return for all my mane-needs in the future. Pros: cheap, stylish, unpretentious more

The Best 6/20/2004

Funky, Friedly, and Affordable. i felt like a princess as the shampoo girl massaged my scalp with tea tree oil and conditioner. Nicole designed the perfect haircut for my hard to mange curls and spent 40 minutes styling my do at no extra coast like other salons. I highly recomend this place. more

Great Stylist 3/10/2004

After my previous hair dresser left I was a bit sceptical about letting someone else cut my hair but i must say Nicole has made a very good impression on me. I first got my hair cut by her about 8 months ago and ever since she has given me nothing but great hair cuts. Exactly what I ask for each time. Great salon I recomend it highly, and especially recomend Nicole. more
