Best Sushi in Denver!!!

Worst

I have eaten at Sonoda's many times. It's fine if you want a fish fix, and they have a very large bar, and the aquariums are a nice touch. However, the omnipresent tiles and cou...

Just okay. 2/8/2008

We made 7pm reservations and were not seated until 8pm. Our waitress wasn't the most friendliest...I won't go back. The food...um, just okay. Pros: great area Cons: service, wait for a table more

Best Sushi in Denver!!! 8/12/2007

Best Sushi in Denver!!! more

Good prices, not so good sushi 3/1/2007

Just went there a couple of nights ago and I think the sushi quality has gone down. We used to get decent sushi for the price (never has been the best sushi) but it must have been an off night. The sushi tasted old and the rolls were poorly made. 2 for 1 hot sake was the best part of the night. If you are going out for sushi night go some where else that may be a little more pricey but it will be worth the extra money. Pros: Decently priced sushi Cons: Sushi quality is poor more

Great Denver Sushi 7/21/2005

Excellent sushi at all of there location. Does not matter if you are in downtown, park meadows or aurora. Service is good. Definitely sometimes you will have to wait to be seated, and décor is not upscale. Yes, it will cost you; if you like sushi, but you not in Macdonald what do you expect. I traveled all over the world, and for Colorado area I can say with confidence, BEST SUSHI! more

YUM! 11/26/2004

I like this place, we prefer to sit at the sushi bar. It is a little cold and sterile but in the summer this is a great little place. I only eat cooked sushi and here is what I recommend: Unagi, Shrimp Tempura Roll, California roll, Spider roll and our VERY favorite: Catapillar Roll ( to DIE for!!!!) We've tried other places but this place has the freshest crab and eel. The drinks are great as is the sake. Get the house salad too, the dressing is heaven! Pros: Fresh, High Quality food, Laid back more

Urban Sushi 5/15/2004

The service was friendly but slow last Friday evening. The edamame was a little bland. The beef-wrapped scallions were tasty and the gyoza was very good. I don't recommend the ""magic mushrooms""; they were interesting, but in a bad way. The tempura came out piping hot and was tasty, but the grouper special last night lacked significant flavor. The decor here is rough. Kind of like eating in a bus station. The fish tanks are interesting, especially the one that contains live Piranhas. This place is okay, but I wouldn't be in a big rush to go back there. Pros: fresh fish, tempura Cons: , decor more

Still the Best 1/26/2004

For overall value and experience, Sonoda's still beats Sushi Den. The food is good and reasonably priced as befits one of the better Sushi restaurants. Happy hour is a good deal if you want to save money. Pros: Price, No wait, Service more

business vs. restaurant 1/1/2004

What makes a good restaurant is the people!, or in Sonoda's case, business. If you find a good sushi chef at Sonoda's than your in for a treat, but if you unfortunately just sit in front of any random sushi preparer than your definitely going to experience a below average experience because there's no ""kokoro"" - ""heart"". If you try the ""Dynamite"", I have no idea whats in theirs, but I don't think its seafood. The atmoshpere is riddled with random papers, business cards, fax's, free calendars from insurance agents, etc. sloppily thrown up on the wall. This place pays NO attention to atmosphere. Pros: specific sushi chefs, good friendly service, quick service Cons: no kokoro/heart, poorly prepared food, bad value more

Sonoda's mediocrity 3/15/2003

This restaurant serves decent sushi all around...but nothing jumps out about them...They don't excel in variety...Their atmospher is not fantastic...And the mexican sushi chefs don't put the time in to hold a menial conversation...I think that for the best tasting sushi in town you should go to the Sushi Den...For the Best value go to Uokura...For a nice experience go to Akebono or perhaps Genroku...Just don't consider Sonoda's a first choice!!! more

Better than the ""Yuppie"" Place 1/8/2003

I'm not going to mention the ""other place"", but Kenny Sonoda has taken all the best food, the best appetizers, the best service and spread it all over town. The Downtown ""hole in the sidewalk"" is the best for ambiance (in a strange underground way), but Park Meadows (DTC) location is every bit as good and much less expensive to park near. I eat there at least 2x per month (it'd be more but sushi is expensive). Keep it up Kenny! Groups ok, but plan to wait! Pros: GREST Sushi, Clean, FRESH Cons: Expensive, Expensive, Expensive more

Not authentic Japanese 1/6/2003

I am from Japan, so I should know how good Japanese food tastes like. Food at Sonoda's is not bad, if you are American and looking for Americanized Japanese food, but it does not compare to some restaurants in other cities. My husband ordered Nabeyaki Udon (white noodles cooked in Japanese soup). I tasted it, and the soup was too sweet for real authentic Japanese. I ordered a la carte sushi. Fish was OK, but did not taste like the freshest. If you want to eat good Japanese food, go to a restaurant with lots of Orientals. They know what is really good Japanese food. The decor of the restaurant was so so. Pros: Location, Aquariums Cons: Food, Service more

Sushi in a bathroom 12/14/2002

I have eaten at Sonoda's many times. It's fine if you want a fish fix, and they have a very large bar, and the aquariums are a nice touch. However, the omnipresent tiles and countertop remind one of what it would be like to eat sushi in a bathroom. It is competent, but not overwhelming sushi, successful because of its size and location, not because of anything else special. Pros: Location, aquariums Cons: Sterility, Ambience - not! more

Awesome! 12/8/2002

The Sonoda's at Park Meadows has the freshest fish in town. The Sushi masters are fast and friendly, and the wait staff are very attentive. Pros: Fresh, Fast, Experienced more

Great fish Tanks 12/4/2002

That is the only good thing that I can say about Sonoda's. I have been there several times and enjoyed a good meal, but it is consistantly ruined by poor service and workers that are not customer focused. The Japanese tradition is entrenched in disipline, and this place misses the point. more

great in DTC 11/27/2002

Great restaurant with very good lunchtime food. Dinner is a bit more expensive, but still worth the price. more

lets play fair 11/21/2002

okay it is looks as if Sonoads likes to slam competitors....lets leave Sushi den alone. Sonodas is a great restaurant with good sushi, lets stick to that. more

Wonderful! 11/1/2002

Sonoda's downtown Denver was the first place I ever had sushi. That was about 10 years ago, and I have been going back regularly ever since. The sushi is very fresh and prepared wonderfully. The atmosphere of the restaurant and sushi bar downstairs is great. I recommend giving Sonoda's in downtown Denver a try! more

DELICIOUS 10/1/2002

Freindly and Happy Staff. Clean Resturant that makes you feel at home. I HIGHLY recommend the EEL. Great Value!!!!!!!!! Pros: Inexpensive, TASTE, STAFF more

Awesome Sushi 9/27/2002

Great sushi! I have always been impressed with the service and speed. Whenever I take someone out for sushi, this is my first choice bar none. Pros: Great Sushi, Inexpensive, Speed more

Sonoda's - all around best 9/6/2002

Sure, Sushi Den has the fancy, trendy atmosphere, but at Sonoda's [on Parker Rd], you will not find a friendlier staff, better service, or better food. Too much rice at Sushi Den. Too pretentious there too. It feels like people are there to see and be seen. Sonoda's stuffs the sushi full of good stuff, has a perfectly adequate amout of rice, and the taste is out of this world. It is a truly friendly place and THE place to go for people who love sushi. more

The two-level downtown location feels like a dive as you descend the stairs to a darkened room full of aquariums and power lunchers. But even when it's full of people, the place...
