SOMA = Same Outstanding Meal Again 10/19/2009

SOMA, short for the Same Outstanding Meal Again, is an amazing experience. With scrumptous specials, an amazing wine list and service comparable to Boston's 5-Star restaurants (but without the overpriced menu and long wait), it's a favorite of not only my wife and me, but also many of my friends. If you're looking for a great night out with food and friends or family, this is your place. Period. Pros: Amazing Food, Amazing Wine List, Amazing Service Cons: That We Had to Leave more

A Well thought out dining experience !!! 10/18/2009

Soma is a beautifully decorated place. Attention to detail is a key element here from the sexy bar top to the black accoustic tiles that cover the entire ceiling ( when packed u can here a pin drop ) the walls are tastefully decorated with warm inviting colors & local works of art, that just draw u in as if you were home. Now living in Sarasota,fl i come back to Boston 4-5 times per year and it's my 1st stop for lunch or dinner. Last night i had the Lobster Mac-n-cheese it was excellent, creamy and loaded with fresh lobster. The pizza is to die for ( seriously ) the food is always fresh and presentation is spot on. The wait staff and bartenders really bring thier A game each and every night. Nick Paras has done an amazing job with Soma and has brought Northshore Dining to new heights. Thanks Nick see yah soon. Pros: Beautiful decor, great atmosphere, amazing food & drinks ! Cons: ? NONE HERE ? more

Touch of Class on the North Shore 10/14/2009

There are as many bars and places to eat in Beverly as there are street corners. Many are nondescript. Soma stands out as a classy, high end alternative for great and unique food and drinks. The staff is very friendly, professional and accommodating. The atmosphere is chic, with a beautiful bamboo bar and local artisans work on the walls. If you have a chance to visit Soma you will not be disappointed. My suggestion would be to ask what the specialty drink is. The pizza's are out of this world and it is also open for lunch which is a rarity in Beverly. Relax and Enjoy! Pros: Service, Professionalism, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Love this place 10/14/2009

Great staff, unbelievable drinks and I had a steak panini for lunch the other day that was awesome! Great fries too which is very important. Pros: Best drinks in town!! Cons: none that I can think of. more

Out of this world! 8/22/2008

I and 12 of my closest family and friends went to Soma a couple of weeks ago, and I must say that this was probably the best meal I have had in a long time! Pros: Food, Drinks and Atmosphere more

Spectacular Suburban Surprise 6/30/2008

My husband & I were looking for a nice date place. I'm 9 months pregnant & we won't have the opportunity for a while, so after reading some reviews we decided to try Soma. We can't wait to go back! Pros: Bar selection, Food Quality, Value Cons: Busy on Weekends more

Good drinks, but slow service 5/16/2008

I love the atmosphere, drinks, and food at Soma! The service needs work - I think they are going for a non-pushy staff setting, but we had to flag them down to get drinks, food, AND the bill at the bar. more

AMAZING!!!! 2/23/2008

It has the best food ever from the drinks to the bar menu to the en tree's. We go there at least once a week. Prices are reasonable, quality is great. Cant wait to go back. Talented chef! Pros: nice ambience, great service more

SOMA is so much fun! I go for the music as well as the food! 11/15/2007

I especially love Weds - a glass of wine - Further From Zen, cool Indie jazz, singer Jesse Ciarmataro's sweet sounds! more

Unbelievable food and even better service 9/7/2007

I was in the area traveling for business last saturday and stubled upon Soma with a few co-workers. I was greeted by a very nice women and seated promptly. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere exactly what I needed fun but most of all relaxing. Pros: Service and food choices Cons: Needs a bit more lighting although relaxing. more

What? 6/2/2007

i was just browsing city search when i came accros the review below. after dining at many restaurants in and around boston i've experienced simalar situations. i think it is absolutly rediculous that you would be expecting part of your meal comped. when i've been asked to move in the past i did so no problem, carrying my own plate of food and all. you obviously are the kind of person who doesn't understand the restaurant industry and i have a feeling that you were probably making a big deal about being asked to move. i personally have eaten in the bar and dining room at soma and loved it every time. they have great martini's and a good variety of food to choose from. i even met the owner once and he was a very likeable guy. anyways i give soma 2 thumbs up and would suggest all to try it. Pros: wine and martini list Cons: muddled cocktails (take to long to make) more

Avoid Soma at all costs!! 6/1/2007

I've eaten at Soma several times, and the food has always been good; however, on our most recent visit, we experienced poor service in the absolute extreme. After being seated, having our wine and salads served, the waitress came over and said the manager was asking us to please move to a different table so they could push a some tables together for a larger party! Apparently a group of 12 came in (without reservations) and the manager was willing to offend two patrons in order to accommodate the larger party. We were left to traipse across the dining room, carrying our wine glasses, to a different table to complete our meal. I was so flabbergasted, I was speechless. When I regained my voice, I asked to speak to the manager, who was not only unapologetic, he was downright insulting, saying something to the effect that he had the opportunity to seat a large party and he could hardly be expected to lose the business to the restaurant next door. While on some level I can completely understand his position, the fact that he neither apologized nor offered to comp us for at least our wine, was unbelievable. While the food is decent, there are many other great options on the North Shore where you won't run the risk of having Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Nick Speros = Boston's New Star Chef 4/12/2006

Nick Speros obviously cut his teeth in Boston's finest restaurants and brings his outstanding talents to Beverly. I am not one for 'eclectic' food but even so, Soma's dishes are outstanding and worth the drive. Eat, be merry, and share the love at Soma. If you see Nick tell him ""Big J"" sent you, and ask him about the time 15 years ago when we used to sneak him into the dorm cafeteria so he could eat. Pros: menu, chef, atmosphere Cons: none, none, none more

Boston Magazine Was Right 4/1/2006

I went to Soma for the first time after reading the Boston Magazine article about suburban dining and I was not disappointed! Chef Nick Speros is unbelievably talented. Everything was wonderfully paired, flavors distinctively highlighted yet melding incredibly well together, and the presentation was beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a big city meal, without actually driving to Boston. I really cant wait to go back with friends and show off what I have discovered! Pros: quality, food, wine list more

wow 2/26/2006

this restaurant was recomended by my brother in law, and I was not disapointed. great atmosphere, a 6 ft hostess with a cute accent, a very knowlegable staff (my waiter knew the menu inside out), great drinks, HOUSE INFUSED BURBON!!!!!, and the food was out of this world. Once the entrees hit the table there was an erie silence as we were too busy eating and groaning to speak. thank you SOMA!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: decor, food, house infusions Cons: zip, zero, none more

Best found inside or outside Boston 2/22/2006

Soma is hands down the best place for gourmet food or mixed drinks both inside or outside Boston.Theyre menu includes many old school and modern dishes. The service is top notch and rivals even the swankiest of places without the snobbery that one might expect. This is a must try for those that truly know good food. more

Gourmet with flair (much edited ) 1/27/2006

I heard about this restaurant from a co-worker and decided to give it a try. WOW was I suprised!!! As I entered SOMA My wife and I were greeted by a very polite young lady who promptly took our coats and brought us to a table. We were met at the table by our waiter who gave us our menus. Reccomend drink house speciality ""SOMATINI"". WOW I got the lamb dish and my wife got chicken. Her chicken was moist and seasoned exquisitely .The lamb was tender and juicy. After dinner we decided to treat ourselves to desert. Flourless Chocolate cake with rasberry sauce. The owner.. Nick... came over and asked us how dinner was. We replied that it was one of the best dinners we have had outside of Boston. We have gone back several times since then. This should mean something since we come down from New Hampshire. Pros: Revolving Menu, Great Drink Menu, Prompt/attentive staf more

Mutton disguised as lamb 1/6/2006

Last year we tried Soma and we practically wept with joy over the lamb with risotto. Now with its new chef, it is like going to dinner at a your eccentric, organic aunt's house and eating clumsy ""its good for you"" food. Appetizers: pear with beets, prune gnocchis, letucces and yogurt salad. Pul-eese. Who pays to eat that stuff? My ""lamb"" tasted alot like mutton, just like the old country. My desert was never ordered (but they did comp it). The waitress and the chef are both brand new. Is that an excuse? The music was bassy and reverberated through the wall, ba bump, ba bump, ba bump. Just like that old college dorm room you had with the loud neighbors. I could not run out of there fast enough, $150 lighter for two people. Bottom line: check out the menu and chef du jour before you chance this place. more

THE BEST RESTAURANT ON THE NORTH SHORE 12/4/2005

This place is unbelievable. The new chef has added a new demension to this restaurant that had a real hip scene, and great martinis, mojitos ect.... but was lacking from a culinary standpoint. NOT ANY MORE. Soma's food rivals any restaurant in Boston. hands down. I work in town, and have dined in almost every restaurant in Boston and Cambridge and believe this place in Beverly (two blocks from my home) will soon be considered a top restaurant in this city, Boston, New England!!!!! Pros: bar menu, late menu, muddled martinis, sweet decor more
