I had purchased a brand new Ryan home in October, of 2012, in which Sobieski is the HVAC contractor that they are currently using. I had a dual fuel system installed. It's a heat pump with a propane backup. The system, as well as the installation were brand new and installed by Sobieski. During my walk through prior to closing, the units blower motor did not work and the 3 thermostats showed an outdoor temp of 115 degrees! A heat pumps thermostat relies on an outdoor temperature read to switch it over to the backup on extremely cold days. The temp sensors were improperly placed inside rather than outside the AC unit. That was fixed but the blower motor would take a week to order and replaced. When that was done, the heating unit would cut off every 5 minutes. Sobieski failed to put the correct level of freon in the heat pump to function properly. When that was fixed, another service call was place as the backup heat blower motor speed was wired on the slow speed providing not enough blow or heat from the vents. On this call, the technician noticed the drip pan cracked and that yet required another service repair. You be the judge. Do you think that 5 service calls on a brand new system in a brand new house by Sobieski warrants anything but a poor rating?"
The following is an additional review to the above regarding Sobieski and the operation of the A/C unit that they installed: I contacted Ryan Homes and Sobieski regarding a problem that I'm having with the unit. On a number of occasions when the thermostat is calling for cooling. The outside unit will start and then stop several times in succession before remaining on. The inside blower motor remains on while the outside unit is doing this. A supervisor from Sobieski contacted me stating that he had never heard of such a thing. Rather than discount my claims as to what is occurring with the outside unit, a technician should have been sent to investigate the problem. A service related issue under the warranty should be handled as if its paid repair. A good company would do that. Although I'll bet that Sobieski would have sent a technician if it was a paid service call. I had contacted the HVAC technician that I had hired to replace my heating and A/C unit in my primary residence in New York with a more efficient one. It was installed five years ago and has functioned flawlessly! He stated that there are a number of reasons that can cause this to occur. And yes he has fixed units that have gone on and off repeatedly as mine doing. It can be anything from a bad thermostat, sensor or even a lose wire in the outside unit. It involves a technician to spend time checking out several probable causes. Perhaps time that Sobieski would prefer for a paid service call. Either way he said that the rapid starting and stopping is not good for the unit and that Sobeski must send out a technician to check out why the unit is doing this. I had contacted the main office of Sobieski and have yet to hear back from them. I may have to complain to Ryan Home Builders as they had contracted with this HVAC company in the first place. It should be noted that after posting my initial review, I have come in contact with other residence in this community who also have issues with Sobieski. This is not a good reflection on Ryan Homes. I'm only posting this in the hopes that someone considering using this company can avoid some of the mishaps that I'm experiencing. Having a new heating and A/C unit, costs a lot of money and requires an excellent installer. Check out all companies you may be considering using with the Better Business Bureau and avoid all of the ones have had any complaints. I did just that for my home in New York. There are many excellent companies that Ryan Homes should have used. If the bottom line was the cost and profit in using Sobieski then Ryan Homes should be ashamed of themselves as well as this company for excepting the job for that price and performing such shoddy workmanship in return.
