Editorial review from GrubHub 5/26/2013

Don't order the Chirashi. They don't have it, and they will promptly call to tell you that. more

suciedad 9/25/2009

this place is terrible. Pros: food is okay Cons: rude sushi chefs more

Gross. 5/27/2008

Yesterday I was very shocked and disgusted to find a chunk of sand in my Lunch Don. It's pretty clear they do not even rinse their vegetables. We were even more furious at the manager's attitude--She acted like it was not her fault and blamed her employees who prepared the food. more

great healthy food 11/20/2007

great food great location! will try all in their menu! Asian hospitality and Service is always there!!! Pros: excellence taste Cons: place little too crownded more

Always a wonderful experience! 3/25/2007

This little hole in the wall below Newbury St. is one of my favorite places for sushi. The service isn't great, but considering the value of the food and the location, I can't complain. I've probably tried everything on the menu and I've loved most of it. The bathroom is clean (and smells nice), which is suprising for small places like these. Great place to stop by after a day of shopping or to bring friends for a casual meal, craving sushi or don't have a lot of cash. Pros: Price, food, location Cons: Service is alright... more

best sushi!! 1/31/2007

Finally my fiance took me to this sushi place after him constantly raving about it. There were many, many times that we wanted to go but the line was longer than our patience however we just ate here 2 days ago and I fell in love with it! the sushi was fresh. service was good and best of all its cheap! Only problem its super busy and there is usually a long wait however being very busy its a good sign. Pros: fresh sushi, yummy sushi, cheap! Cons: long wait! more

Tasty and Fresh 1/7/2007

Shino Express is a fantastic sushi place. The sushi is very tasty, fresh and really inexpensive. It's a tiny place that offers takeout. It's hard to get a seat so takeout may be your only choice. The service is great. The staff are really friendly. Try the seaweed salad. It may not sound that appealing but it tastes great. Pros: Service, Freshness, Price Cons: Nothing more

Definitely the Best Value 12/9/2006

This is the best sushi for the price in the Boston area. Are we allowed to mention price? $2.50 for tekka or salmon maki. Most of the ""named"" rolls are $5-6.95. And there are more generous ""contents"" in the rolls than at other sushi places in Boston. Testimony (and the only downside): At mealtimes, the wait can be long. The place is tiny. However, you might go to other sushi restaurants just a block away or around the corner, and they are lightly patronized at the same time. Oh, and while the others might have a couple of sushi chefs working, this one always has 5-6. The restaurant also has take-out, and that moves faster than getting a table or a seat at the sushi bar. Pros: Price, hands down! more

Just Yummy! 10/11/2006

I stumbled on this place a few years ago and have ever since been hook. The food is so good and fresh that I've even tried things that Americans would think weird like fugu liver over rice and freshwater eel. And if you like Japanese food then you got to try their seaweed salad and miso soup. I make trips there in the winter just for the soup. Beleive me you get your money worth, the most I've spent eating here is only $12 and that included the tip. The waitstaff are very friendly an opent to offer tips if you don't know what to try or if you've never had sushi before. Pros: Fresh food, great service, on the T Cons: no parking more

delicious 4/8/2006

this is place is really good and cheap . you can have a great meal for very low price. the sushi is really fresh. Pros: cheap, fresh, delicious Cons: small seating area more

User review by rockyhorrorgirli 2/24/2006

so affordable-- for lunch especially! the portions are on the small side and its not the best tasting sushi i've ever had, but it was fresh and tasty. so for 7 bucks you really can't complain! more

Addicting! 4/2/2005

The problem with Shino is how addicting it can become! It's most definately the cheapest sushi you'll find anywhere in Boston. Plus it's fresh, and the service is quick. I eat at Shino a minimum of three times a month - and I've gotten my friends addicted too! more

Delicious and Inexpensive 2/16/2004

I have been eating at Shino Express for almost two years and have never been disappointed with the quality, service, or the price of my meal. The sushi is very inexpensive especially compared to other sushi restaurants in the greater Boston area. The pieces are delicious with a newly expanded menu to include several new types of inside-out rolls among my favorite are the Crispy Eel and Newbury Fashion. It is a very small place, perfect to hop in and out for a quick, delicious and inexpensive bite of sushi. Pros: Delicious Sushi, Inexpensive, Moderately Sized Cons: , Lack of atmosphere more

This place is great! 10/25/2003

If you want really cheap, good, fresh, fast, sushi (and who wouldn't) then please go to Shino. I go here all the time, and it has never disappointed me. Pros: Fresh and Tasty, Inexpensive, Fast more

Best sushi fix 2/11/2003

Don't go there for fancy designer rolls, but if you're in need of a quick sishi fix, this is the place to go. The seaweed salad is very good too. I've eaten there at least once a week for the past 6 years and the fish has always been fresh and tasty. Portions are usually bigger at dinner. Service gets better as the staff sees you come back again and again :-) Pros: quick, fresh, cheap Cons: closes early more

Shino Express Sushi 1/3/2003

If you think you don't have enough time and money, this is the best. Inexpensive, Fast and Fresh. Pros: Inexpensive, Fast, Fresh more

splendid sushi 8/20/2002

fresh, delicious, well presented! quick, fast, light, and simple fare! Prepared quickly and fresh! I would recommend for anyone interested in some relatively cheap and tasteful sushi in the back bay! Especially for take out! Pros: service, clean, fresh more

Not all that good 8/9/2002

I stopped in here for a quick takeout lunch. The prices were quite inexpensive, and it was the only sushi place around that I knew of. I ordered one of the lunch combos and was a little worried when they handed me a takeout container of pre-made rolls and nigiri. But I wanted sushi, so I decided to try it. The nigiri pieces were quite small and unimpressive - the rolls likewise. Nowhere near as good as most of the other sushi I've had around town. Plus they didn't have low-sodium soy sauce. If you really want sushi, knock yourself out here. But if you want a nice sushi meal, look elsewhere. Pros: It's cheap. Cons: It's cheap for a reas more

Small Fish 8/5/2002

The prices are cheap but the pieces are small. The dining area is very UNCOMFORTABLE. You usually end up spending the same amount that you would going to a regular sushi place, so that doesnt seem cheap to me. more
