where do i even start? well, i guess the beginning is a good place.
when we arrived at smeraldo's, the parking lot was full of people riding go-carts--adults and children alike. it was around 7 or 8 on a saturday night, but our arrival seemed to confuse everyone at the restaurant.
we walked into the restaurant, and we weren't greeted by any sort of host. we wandered forward a few feet, and someone working there happened to walk by. he, too, seemed confused by us being there, and he proceeded to lead us down some stairs into a basement level with tables and a bar. it soon became apparent that we were the only customers IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT. on a saturday.
we sat down and ordered drinks and started perusing the menu while two employees stood next to the bar and stared at us. i mean, i guess the service was spectacular. they were all up on our stuff, but they really had nothing else to do.
after we ordered, our food came out. to say it wasn't quality is an understatement. i believe we likened it to some sort of frozen stuffed shells you'd buy in bulk at sam's club or something.
now, don't get me wrong--i had a blast. i felt like i was in some sort of creepy, surrealist fantasy sequence. i could easily give this place 0 or 4 stars, depending on how i want to approach the experience.
would i eat the food again? i'd rather eat at sbarro. seriously. do i regret going there? hell no. i have stories for years.
Pros: the go-cart party in the parking lot.
Cons: maybe the go-cart fumes?
