Wrost place ever!!! 5/23/2012

They will promise to let your dog play outside with other dogs but all they do is cage the dogs all day and night. I put my dog there twice and went over to check if they really let them out. I never saw any dogs playing outside. When i picked up my dog she was so miserable. more

A second home for our dog 8/6/2010

We love to be with our dog. So, when we need to work extra hours or visit family out-of-town, we depend on the people at Skipton to care for our dog as well as we could. And they do! The staff is caring, competent and concerned. The place is cleaner than our house. A great vet is literally steps away from the front door. I imagine that dealing with people and their beloved pets can be a difficult job -- yet Karen, David and staff stay grounded and focused on the animals. It's a relief to us to know our dog has a second home we can depend upon -- he actually jumps out of the car and heads directly to the door when we pull up. How cool is that? more

Terrible scary place 5/28/2010

Read the unbiased article in the South End News: Go to: mysouthend Type Skiptons in the search box. Our tragic article comes right up. They should be shut down! Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Killed my dog while in their care, almost killed the second more

Fantastic place to board your dog 1/27/2010

Karen, David and the crew at Skipton have taken truly excellent care of my dogs over the past several years. True dog lovers, they care, listen to the owner's opinions and are easy to get along with. I have experience with other kennels in the area where dogs are in chain link pens - the crate system at Skipton was a perfect option, and both dogs have come back to me multiple times relaxed and ready to go home (the chain link pens elsewhere did nothing but stress them out). Plus they're willing to try things based on the owner's say-so (like crating both dogs together to keep them calm). No reservations at all - Skipton gets (and deserves) an A+! more

true dog lovers 1/30/2008

Karen and her crew treated my evil bloodhound Bartolo with love, care and respect when no one else wanted to deal with him. They accommodated our raw food habits and health requests. My Bartolo always wagged his tail when saw us packing his bag and came home tired and dirty every time (signs of great fun in my book!) Pros: great customer service Cons: none! more

Top of the line kennel 1/18/2008

Simply the best. If not for Skipton and all their wonderful employees I would never be able to go away. Clean, attentive and loving, they treat my high maintenance dog of my elderly s like few people treat their children. Both of my elderly dogs are seizure prone, and one has Cushings disease. I never have to worry wabout my dogs while they are in the care of Skipton Kennel. Anyone who says differently was surely at a different kennel. I had taken both dogs to a different kennel once and both came back with foot infections and extreme weight loss. It cost me $1,000 to get both dogs well and the other kennel never reimbursed me even for the stay! If you want superb care for your pet - there is no place like home or in this case Skipton Kennel. Pros: reasonable price, loving and attentive more

Skipton Kennels in Waltham 10/22/2007

I'm glad my pets can go to Waltham's Skipton Kennels when we can't take them with us. As I walked into the entrance, pet's cubbys and an industrial washer and dryer greeted me. Pets have their own spot for their food, their toys and leashes, things to remind my pet of his home. The kennels are clean, fans are run to keep animals cool and comfortable and when I was there, there was music playing to soothe the animals. Staff were friendly and caring to the animals. In the kitchen there is a large white board where animals and everything that's important to the animal's well being is recorded there; each time they eat, what food they eat, if they have to take medicine, when they go to the bathroom, . Dogs can exercise in the yard pens which are cleaned after each animal has been in it. Bedding is changed and washed daily. Duffy's stomach is very touchy if his food is changed, so I pack the food he is used to and he has never had an accident at the kennels. If he were to get sick, the vet's is right next door, and though the facility is older, it is clean and the vet is very caring. Cats may greet you or be laying on a table when you come in to the house, but these are happy animals. I've seen the rooms and the kennels where pets are housed. My dog (and cats) are provided with a safe and clean environment. Though my dog would rather be with me, he is happy and well adjusted when I pick him up from Skipton Kennels. more

Terrible Service 10/5/2007

My dog was dirty and smelly when he came back from this place. And the owner was very shady. I do not recomend this place at all. more

Best Kennel in the Area 5/24/2007

There is no such thing as perfection but Skipton Kennel and its owners come pretty darn close. You're never going to please everyone so an occasional bad review is inevitable. Our experience has been total confidence and satisfaction in the care our 'senior' dog has received, including attention to her various 'older dog' problems, from horrible hips to two blown knees and knee surgeries . . .and we are equally confident that they will give the same quality care to our newest four-legged family member this summer when she is almost 7 months old and we board them for a week. Exercised dogs survive just fine being crated. They don't need the socialization and romping that puppies do and the risks are not as great with puppy play as they are with older dogs with established personalities. (Just walking our older gal through the woods we have had two 'aggressive' dog incidents that required stitches for ours in both cases . . each time the owner was 'shocked' at their own dog's behavior. ) Older dogs with established personalities can be unpredictable so I I'm fine with her being crated tand exercised. The pup will need to romp and play with other pups and will have that opportunity. . .These are people who obviously love what they're doing, including a staff that really enjoys working together, and, most importantly, our older girl always comes home happy-go-lucky and somewhat reluctant to leave them, which wasn't the case with other kennels. Finally, early on in our association with Skipton we had a death in the family and had to travel out-of-state -- they accommodated us at the last minute without even a moment's hesitation. When I dropped her off before going to the airport, not only did I get reassurance that our girl would be fine, I got a huge hug of condolence that was truly genuine. . .these are quality people with much to offer your 4-legged family members. I recommend Skipton without reserve. Pros: Staff/owners, facility, dog behavior and needs knowledge, drop-off area more

Best Kennel Ever 5/2/2007

Due to the last comment I will say that is completley wrong and the reason your dog look rejected was probably because he was mean or aggressive(normally a mean dog would be hard to handle and play with), This person is completely worng as an customer I believe it is one of the best kennels ever. They are great to my dog and their dogs are very nice as well they take good care of the dogs and take them outside 4-5 times a day althogugh dogs cant play with other dogs puppies can play with other puppies . The reason dog cant play with other dogs is because it erases the possiblilty of a fight. I think this is probably the best kennel in Massachusetts and will attempt to be nice to your dog no matter the situation Pros: I cant fit it in this space Cons: NONE!! more

A great place 3/16/2007

Skipton is an awesome place. Karen, David and everyone absolutely adore the dogs in their care. Priot to taking our spaniel there, we went to ""interview."" When Karen, almost immediately, leaned down to talk more to our dog than to us, I knew we were in the right place. Whenever we take our dog there, she is in a great mood when we pick her up. They have even helped us find a better food to use for our allergy prone and somewhat overweight dog; she has been itch-free and skinnier since! more

Horrible! 3/15/2007

Read more reviews about this place before you board your beloved dog/ cat. I only read one review about this place and I regretted it. The owner refused to show me the facility which gets me very curious. My dog looks tensed and scared at the end of the stay. I suspect they kept my dog in their cage for the entire stay instead of playing with her as they advertised. When we picked her up all her favorite belongings were untouched in the crate. I felt so bad for my dog I'll never bring her there again and will blast every review our on the net about this place. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE UNLESS YOU KNOW THESE PEOPLE more
