Went to Skeins to get help with my daughter's first knitting project. Woman was incredibly rude, insulting and not helpful. Would never go back. I went to a knitting store in Austin, Texas where the staff were lovely and helpful. more

The owner of Skeins has been fighting cancer for more than 2 years and will be appalled if she sees this post. She has tried to fight this horrible disease with dignity and privacy. I am so disgusted by the posts/complaints I can keep quiet no longer. Inconvient hours are due to illness, single balls are displayed and all have back stock (this shop has more storage than display space). Friends man/have manned the shop when she is too sick to come in. So before you all sit down to put the word out to destroy a persons business, you might want to ask yourself how did you behave in the shop? You see people usually treat others the way they are being treated. I have been in this shop and observed 1st hand some pretty spoiled, selfish, demanding women come through the door. I travel many states in my business and have been in my fair share of yarn shops......there are so many wonderful knitters ...... It's the kind of people who have posted so negatively on this site that spoil the craft/art and ruin it for others. A smile and ""I could use some help here"", always get an owners attention. more

Skeins is a great store with a wonderful selection of yarns across all price points. The owner of the store is a very knowledgable knitter and is very good at help you make substitutions of one yarn for another. Also, they may have only 1 skein of each color out in the bins but they usually always have more in the back. Just ask. more

I drove 35 minutes to take a look at what Skeins had to offer. The lady working took two minutes away from her group of friends (there were four ladies sitting around a table knitting together, and the one lady working looked annoyed that she had to get up to help a customer) to help show me what I was looking for (the yarn is unorganized and cluttered around on the floor in some areas). They don't have more than one ball of yarn per color, not enough to complete a project. I was so disappointed with the service and selection, I will not go back. more

Unique and quirky 6/23/2011

I have been a great fan of Needlework Unlimited all my life having been a knitter and having lived a couple blocks from the store in Linden Hills. I moved to St. Louis Park and recently stumbled upon this little shop. The owner speaks her mind and knows her stuff and some obviously may find that difficult. I found her honesty rather refreshing. Last week I came in to buy yarn and brought a project I was having trouble with. A lovely older woman who worked in the shop sat me down and with great kindness helped me learn to sew an underarm seam. I took a class a few weeks ago and the young woman who taught the class was amazing! On evening I was the only one who showed up for class and she stayed late to help me get my sweater finished so I could mail it off to my granddaughter. She taught me so much! I decided to sign up for another class with her next week. The prices are good and the selection of buttons is the best in town. This shop is unique and original. I really like it! more

My Favorite Yarn Store 10/15/2010

I have visited the Skeins yarn shop on many occasions. It is one of my favorite yarn stores to shop in. When ever I am over visiting my in-laws in Minnetonka I make a point of stopping in to browse and talk with the owner about all the new patterns and yarns that have come in. Most of my yarn ""stash"" has been purchased at Skeins and now my husband makes a point to tag along with me and pick out yarn for the socks that I knit for him. I have recommended this store to many of my friends who knit and will continue to make time to shop there as well. more

Appalling 9/11/2010

Skeins is disorganized, cluttered, unfriendly, and altogether not worth the trip. I've given them three chances, and each time (just for walking in) I was treated like I'd just stolen something or crashed a party. Also, their selection of yarns (unless you like campy) is severely limited. You'd be better off going almost anywhere else. They do not exist to serve you, but rather to inflate their own self-images. Sure, they know their knitting, but that's like saying a bird can fly--big deal. Positive reviews for this place were clearly written by people with a vested interest in its success. I'll try 'em again in like a year. Hopefully by then they'll have gotten over themselves. more

DON""T SHOP THERE 3/3/2010

I was treated like a speck of dirt. I walked into the store, no one greated me. There were 4 people in the store. One customer for sure and it was not certain which of the 3 others were working there. 2 people were kitting and I stood for 10minutes waiting for someone assist me with a purchase. Walked out of the store with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth for how I was treated. Shame on you, Skeins! You suck! Cons: horrible service more

Poor service and limited hours 1/6/2010

Because Skeins is so close to home, I have given them many chances to be my favorite LYS. Unfortunately, I always feel very uncomfortable in the store. I once went in when a book signing was in progress and I felt I was tresspassing on a private party. It was very difficult to get someone to help me when I needed it. The book selection is terrible. The hours are worse. I admit that is also drives me crazy that they don't even have the most basic website with store hours and phone number. Pros: Location Cons: Poor service, limited hours and no web site more

Also least favorite 12/31/2009

Unfortunately this is the closest yarn shop to my home, so sometimes I need to go there when I'm in a hurry. The owner has a way of making me feel stupid whenever I ask questions about patterns, etc. Went in there the other day and another person was very kind and helpful. Agree with the other comment--avoid the store when the owner is there. Pros: Location Cons: Owner seems a bit hauty more

Least favorite YS in the cities 6/1/2009

The hours are very inconvenient, though that's true of many yarn stores. The selection is odd - lots of novelty/artisan yarns, and some basics, though never in enough quantity to do anything with. The store is very difficult to navigate - stuff is piled everywhere, and the shop is dominated by a table in the middle, where the owner and 1 or 2 friends sit knitting and talking. They pretty much ignore all who enter the store except other friends, or folks they peg as an easy mark (e.g. easily talked into buying expensive items - well-off, but unknowledgeable new knitters). It's a VERY uncomfortable place to shop. Cons: un-friendly staff, odd selection, bad hours, messy, dark more

Skeins - great on selection and knowledgeable , but customer service can be abrupt 5/13/2008

This is a beautiful yarn shop with a great selection. The shop also has a wonderful selection of silk ribbon. Pros: quality and variety of yarn; knowledgeable staff Cons: owner can be very crabby more
