Best German Food 9/19/2008

Fun environment, great service, good food. I've had better German food in my time, but I was pleasantly satisfied anyway given the fun atmosphere. I would definitely go here again and have already recommended this place to my friends more

Delicious dinner 3/5/2007

Visited on Saturday night. Pleasant atmosphere and attentive waiter. Excellent selection of beers. We enjoyed sauerbraten and meatloaf dinners. For two people, dinner with no appetizers, no salads and no desserts, one class of beer each, bill was $50 plus tip. I would visit again. more

Great sausage, schnitzle, and turkey! 10/31/2006

kimber111 Provided by Partner
Great German food in a comfortable country-home-like setting. Never had trouble getting reservations or simply walking in. The turkey dinner is excellent and the sausages are better than most in Manhattan. Service is timely, but casual- not stuffy. Thankful to find great German food with good service and skipping the goofy atmosphere/costumes of some alternatives. Pros: Great sausage, mustards, turkey Cons: Occasional service error, but good overall more

Pretty good, better German place in Brooklyn 9/10/2006

bpbrody Provided by Partner
I, not being German, never thought German food would be good. This place is pretty good, but a really great place just opened in my neighboorhood.. Not sure how to get it on citysearch, but the name is Schnitzel Haus and located at 7319-5th ave in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. I have a German buddy, and he said its the closest thing to real German food that he has had since moving from Germany... he gives it a 9.7 on food. Pros: Decent food Cons: better food in Brooklyn place more

Watch the mustard!!! HOT 5/10/2006

you'll love the beer selections, and the pretzels on the bar are fresh as always. Watch out for the hot mustard cause it packs a kick. Definitely knock you off your feet. Had 12 of us for dinner, tried almost all of the menu, every part good. Pros: german beer, service, glassware Cons: decor more

Real standout 8/21/2004

The Silver Swan is a real standout in every way. Excellently prepared German fare at a very reasonable price. Citysearch says average 3 course meal at $20. This is not accurate however, $30-35 is closer to reality, but even at this it is well worth it. This has become my new German food spot it NYC. Pros: Well prepared food, excellent value, cordial service more

Excellent! Wunderbar! 7/1/2004

This is one of my favorite places in the city. I have never ordered anything from the Silver Swan that I have not thoroughly enjoyed! The bartenders and waiters alike are friendly, helpful and full of personality and the authentic German Cuisine can not be beat. Order from the bar menu and eat at the bar, and you'll enjoy some of the same great dishes from the restaurant menu at an even greater price! Try the goulash and any of the schnitzel dishes - you will NOT be disappointed! Pros: Great Staff, Reasonable Prices, Karaoke on Mondays! more

Cannot be in Frankfurt... 11/15/2003

...to eat a good Schweinshaxe? No problem, the pork shank at the Swan will do just fine. Very tender and tasty just like in a cider bar in Frankfurt. Overall a great place to eat or just to hang at the bar. Never really too crowded which is a major plus !! more

A Decent Choice 4/20/2003

This is a good German place, if you know what to order. The potato pancakes are delicious, the salads are pretty fresh, and the Kasslerrippchen (tastes similar to ham) is a suggested dish. The draft beer is also enjoyable. It could use more atmosphere and lacks the authenticity of a true German restaurant. Pros: food, beer, early bird specials Cons: atmosphere more

Teutonic Delight 3/12/2003

ottoparts Provided by Partner
The Swan has a great selection of German and other imported beers. The stunning blonde Austrian barmaid/waitress recommended (without our asking) a perfect plate of assorted wursts and potato pancakes, served with apple sauce and sour cream for the cakes and hot and sweet Thomi mustard for the sausages. A perfect early snack with an Ayinger dunkel weisse. Go here for the beers and light eats, and you won't be disappointed. Pros: Great beers, Beer glassware, Mustard Cons: Comatose bartender more

Very good wurst and sauerbraten. Large selection of bottled and draft beers. Service was very good too. Uncrowded on Saturday for lunch. A bit expensive I think, but this is NY. more
