Love this place. 3/20/2012

Ok really. The Shooting Star Saloon is a find. A throwback to the past with a staff that is a blast. We had the best time here the other night. The place has the best juke box and it plays all the old favorite from Johnny Cash to Patsy Cline to Tex Ritter. Regulars and first timers all seem to feel welcome and we felt right at home. Even got a great history lesson from the the staff about the Town, Utah and Ogden. The food, burgers and chips were amazing, famous I am told and the price cant be beat! I'll be headed back soon. Yum Yum and fun fun. Also staff said they have a new owner and are open seven days a week. more

Coolest Place In Utah 5/2/2011

Best damn burger ever and the bars not so bad either. No frills, tons of history and lots of fun. Everyone and anyone is welcome just no plastic. This place is the definition of the real McCoy. more

Incredible place 11/17/2010

The Shooting Star is a can't miss local place one needs to experience. This review is written 16 years later from when we visited the establishment. Road trip with my buddy from CA before he married. We took snow skis and MTB's on the trip. Met my cousin at his home in Ogden, UT. Went on a monster MTB ride starting at 6000 ft to 9600 ft. We encountered snow at 8000 ft and had to ditch the bikes and hike to the peak. Then headed down to Lone Star. What a great place! We orderd the famous burger. By memory 16 years later the burger had bacon, lingucia, cheese, onion rings, on a one lb burger! This place was a great stop for us and still talking about it when we visited it in 1994. A mandatory stop if you are in Ogden or anywhere close by!! We are looking at the picture of us next to the St Bernard's head! Crazy as we sat at the booth where the head is mounted. more

Yum 8/23/2009

The drive from the Wasatch Front is almost as good as the delicious Star Burger. Pros: Star Burger Cons: Dine-in only. I wish I could take my awesome burger to go. more

Great bar and grill...not for foo foo types 6/15/2009

If you want to add to your Utah trip, and don't consider yourself too good to leave the realm of MODERN bars...not coffee bars either, step on in and enjoy. Great atmosphere and great food. Pros: HOT BURGERS AND COLD BEER Cons: Can't think of a thing more

The oldest bar in Utah with a great burger and allot of character 3/10/2009

The saloon was built (1879-oldest bar in Utah). Some people are just too uptight and just don't get what the shooting star is all about. It's about history. It's about being different. It's about a unique place that hasn't changed much. I always take out of town guests there and they love it. My favorite time is stopping by after hitting the slopes. Don't expect quick food or table service. A good burger takes time and they make them fresh from very good beef. You order your food and drinks at the bar. But in my opinion it is the best burger I have ever had. The knackwurst they put on the burgers makes such a unique taste and they are big burgers. If you want a classy burger place- stay in town. But if you want that old fashion down-to-earth-this-is-the-way-it-is historic type atmosphere this it the place. The bathrooms walls are carved with graphiti dating back to who knows how long. I still haven't read it all. There is a pool table and juke box machine. The ceiling is covered with dollar bills with peoples name on them, again, dating back to when? There are a few stuffed animals on the wall including the worlds largest Saint Bernard head. This animal weighed in at 300lbs. It took a couple times going there before I realized it wasn't a bears head. \r \r Yes it does smell of smoke because it is legal to smoke in there, but it never bothered me as a non-smoker. Check it out for yourself, but take it for it's character and a place thats stands the test of time. Remember it's 21 and older only to enter. It's up in Huntsville along the Pineview Reservour. A nice drive from town up Ogden Canyon. The Shooting Star Saloon has been written-up in a positive way in travel magazines for years.\r \r You owe it to yourself to check it out. In all fairness to the few bad experiences written, even the finest restaraunts don't make everyone happy. Pros: Uniqueness, great burger, allot character Cons: Not open on Monday & Tuesday more

A True Bar! 1/16/2009

The Shooting Star is a Bar. With a capital ""B."" Which, of course, begs the question: ""What is a Bar?""\r \r A Bar is a state of mind.\r \r A Bar is a community, with it's own social norms and ethics; like any community, it can be xenophobic at first but welcoming to the newcomer who makes an effort.\r \r A Bar has its own personality.\r \r A Bar does not suffer fools (or yuppies) lightly.\r \r A Bar does not exist to serve food, but the food that is served has personality.\r \r A Bar has staying power.\r \r If your idea of a wonderful restaurant experience is TGIF, where the waiters force themselves to smile and act cheerful while you abuse them and rudely send back your Jack Daniels steak 'cause it isn't cooked ""just right"" (as if you would know, eating, as you are, at TGIF), then stay away from the Shooting Star. If you want good burgers, beer, and the company of Carol, the most fantastic and most knowledgeable bartender who ever graced the drinking public, then the Shooting Star is the place for you. Pros: A life-changing experience. You can smoke (I don't, but I support the freedom to do so) Cons: Every once in a while a yuppie walks in and ruins the environment more

Great food! Great Attitude!! 1/15/2009

I AM A LOCAL FROM OGDEN AND I LOVE THE SHOOTING STAR!!! The shooting star has the best burgers in the world, and I usually don't like burgers. I also love their independant attitude!!! They are NOT a restaurant NOR a fast food joint and they DON'T pretend to be...\r Usually the people who get mad at them are people who were not able to get their own way... Trust me! Sometimes it's fun just to go in and watch how they handle some of the situations they come across..\r Quite entertaining if you ask me! I keep reading about... their hours being inconsistant, I have been going there for YEARS and still the hours are EXACTLY the same as they have ever been, WEIRD! They have been closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and HOLIDAYS for many many years, they open at NOON and close the grill at 9 PM... except Sunday, then they open at 2PM and the grill closes at 8...\r Pretty normal BUSINESS hours if you ask me?!! The only exception I have seen is when there is either a power outtage.. which does happen now and again the Ogden Valley (people keep running into power poles) and extremely bad weather. But if you want a FUN HISTORICAL place to go.. for people ALL OVER THE WORLD... the Shooting Star Saloon is the BEST place to go!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: Ignorant customers more

No longer open? 6/30/2008

Truthfully, I don't know anything about this place. They would not answer the phone at 5:45pm on a Monday. I called several times but no answer. My family is in town for a reunion, all 15 of us and we were trying to find a place to go tonight. I think they're either out of business or no longer open on Mondays. more

GREAT beer and burger joint! 3/27/2008

Been coming here for years and I know the special ingredients! It's a GREAT beer and burger joint with lots of fun and historic atmosphere, FABULOUS Star Burger amongst their other burgers, Heidi the owner is WONDERFUL, interesting people to meet now matter what time of year, bathrooms a MUST SEE. Don't expect 5 star restaurant service but rather a 5 star authectic western have a good time saloon. Anyone in the area, including Ogden, must visit the Star for the experince. And to all of you who wrote negative comments, try Burger King so you can have it your way! Pros: Fun, good food & beer, front door parking authentic western atmosphere. Cons: May have wait time to be seated during busy hours but worth the wait. more

Cool dive with skiers, boarders and cowboys. 12/30/2007

Probably the greatest little dive in UT. Hamburgers have a POLISH sausage on them. Beers on tap are $1.25. There is a stuffed St. bernard on the wall and a pool table in the corner. Killer jukebox for some country tunes. \r \r Anyone who does not like this place probably has no sense of humor or culture. Pros: Just Go! It's worth it. Cons: Sometimes yuppies who don't understand showup. more

Overrated! 6/17/2007

I had heard of the legendary Shooting Star and their burgers for years. Then we had a meeting nearby, so we decided to try the legend ourselves. What a disappointment! The place is a dive, and the famous burgers were a waste. What makes it unique is a knockwurst on the burger, which is an interesting concept. But the way it actually ended up was far from stellar - a very mediocre lunch. I'll never go back. Why this place is in the City Search Top Ten, I'll never know. Cons: Dirty, smoke-filled environment. Below average food. No service. The staff could have cared less that we were even there. more

Eat before you go! 9/28/2006

The burger is terrible, 2 frozen meat pucks cooked to death and the only flavor is the sausage.\r It does live up to the billing of sloppy.\r \r The saloon without the ""food""--now that is interesting! Pros: The place Cons: The food more

It really bites 6/12/2006

I own a house in Huntsville now laughingly worth $1,000,000. \r \r This place is a joke. If you are a Harley idiot ( impotent, middle age crisis) then you will think you are cool going here.\r \r Otherwise, stay away.\r \r Pros: no parking problems Cons: why bother more

Good burgers, but go when the owner is not there! 8/4/2005

""The owner is rude"", is a true statement. I have been eating at the Shooting Star for over 15 years and I have never seen the guy in a good mood. I bring out of town guests up there to read the graffitti on the bathroom walls, hear a few old songs on the jukebox and have a great burger. He is definitely not a ""people person"" and has seemed to offend ever out of town guest I have taken to his establishment. His wife is nice though and the burgers are good so that is why I continue to go. Pros: Inexpensive, Good burgers Cons: Rude owner more

Ask Your Mom to get It 7/7/2005

The burger is the best! The polish sausage atop the burger is a match that no other burger can create. It's the greatest idea for a burger ever. The junior star is plenty of food to satisfy almost all hunger. If you're looking around Ogden Valley for a place to eat, don't fall into the belief that you can get it from other local restaurants, the only place to get real good food is in the shooting star. Pros: Delicious burger,, good area,, fun place more

Great destination 7/7/2005

Sunday. 10 am. All the neighbors have left for church. We kick our Harley's to life and head for th hills. Through th Uinta Mountans. Stop in Evanston, Wyoming at ""Kelly's"" for a refreshment. Then to Woodruff and over theMonte Cristo pass and down to the Shooting Star. Why? Because good distance riding is about finding the best B & B (beer & burger) on the road! Yea, the owners are a little rough, so what. The Star Burger rules! Sometimes the destination is almost better than the ride. Pros: The best burger more

It's a BAR -- you @#$%^ dopes! 5/19/2005

Reading the other recent reviews, I have to wonder where these jomokes are from. Oh, it says they're Californians, that may explain it. Look guys, the Shooting Star is a bar. It's famous for being uncompromising and not offering takeout; I've heard various stories as to why it's that way. If you want some pub-grub with your beer, this is the place to go. The fact that it's in an incredibly beautiful location is another plus. Pros: Great locale, Friendly customers, Predictably good time Cons: Few if any more

TERRIBLE 8/3/2004

The owner is rude, the hours are unpredictable and generally not as posted and the food was terrible. more

HUNGRY?? 2/11/2003

IF YOUR HUNGRY AND LOOKING FOR A NICE DRIVE THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO TRY. BASED IN A ORIGIONAL SALOON FROM THE 1800'S YOU WILL FIND YOUR SELF LOOKING AT A CELING FILLED WITH ONE DOLLAR BILLS. ORDER THE STAR BURGER AND ENJOY GETTING FULL ON THE BEST BURGER YOU WILL EVER EAT. I WOULD DEFFINATELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT BEER, GREAT ATMOSPHERE Cons: SMOKE, NO KIDS UNDER 21, LIMITED SEATING more
