restaraunt or BMV? 10/23/2007

my wife and i, went to shoku on a whim thinking it would be a nice place to eat as we have heard, yet the service was only okay at best, at least for us, other tables near us seemed to have better service. our 45+ minute wait for sushi that was seemingly unfresh was almost unbearable. the restaraunt wasn't even very busy. to somewhat ruin our otherwise quite evening, there was an older woman yelling at the staff quite loudly in front of patrons as if we were'nt there at all, i must assume she is a manager of sorts. how rude and impolite, and completely unprofessional. i myself own and operate a restaraunt and such occurences would never be allowed in my establishment. if i felt it would be worth my time, the owner(s) would hear about our horrible experience, but we won't ever be returning. Pros: they have a very nice patio and friendly staff Cons: waiting for food, small portions, and angry loud managers more

Dirty 9/14/2007

Lazy service, dirty dining room, too pricey for what you get, dirty kitchen, none of the sushi tasted fresh, need I say more? more

absolutely terrible service, sub par sushi 4/22/2007

The atmosphere at Shoku is nice, but the service is POOR. My friends and I waited on our sushi for well over an hour on a tuesday night. We didn't see our server the entire time and asked a blonde 'manager' if she could check on our food. We informed her that it had been over an hour waiting for our sushi at which point she argued with us and refused to help. When the sushi finally came the portions were poor. One of my friends commented on this and over hearing us the waiter promptly came to the table and commented that 'if we wanted a large meal maybe we should try mcdonalds'. I worked at a sushi restaurant for quite some time and was absolutely DISGUSTED by my experience there. more

Wow- what a horrible experince 3/13/2007

The rolls and sushimi were not fresh and was probably the smallest porion I've ever seen a a resturant, this after taking 40 mins even though there were 6 people in the resturant. After complaining to the waiter, he said ""thats too bad, you're in Ohio."" I've had much better experiences in Ohio, and won't be back more

Skip Shoku and skip on over to Haiku. 3/3/2007

Four of us went on a Saturday night and were disappointed. The hostess seemed board and clueless, we were crammed around a tiny table and the waiter was mostly MIA. There was a large LCD TV on the wall which was distracting, especially when CSI came on with bloody images of a small girl getting her throat cut. (We had them change the channel.) The food was relatively expensive and pedestrian. Will not return. Do Haiku instead. more

Small sashimi pieces. Not worth the price 7/18/2006

I ordered the sashimi combo & the pieces were so small. The tuna & salmon did not taste fresh. The salmon was chewy. The uni was good. I asked for a bowl of rice & they charged 1.50 for it. Pros: Close to freeway. They had good service. Cons: Sashimi was too small. more

Spicy Tuna and Rainbow Roll! 5/1/2006

We went on a quiet Sunday night, found street parking, were seated immediately, and had an enjoyable, healthy, fresh meal. The Rainbow Rolls and Spicy Tuna were particularly good. My husband loved the spinach salad appetizer. The vegetable tempura was lovely, but I suspect it was not deep fried in a dedicated vegetarian fryer. That is my only complaint, but I should have asked first. The chef mixed up our order a bit and so we got way more food than we ordered and didn't pay extra for it. Abundant, prompt service with smiles and pretty yellow walls and mood lighting added to the experience. We definitely like this place better than Haiku. Pros: ambiance, service, fresh fish Cons: no Sunday liquor more

Not recommeded 4/22/2006

The food was not good. The service was too slow. They charged more money from my credit card, and it took a long time to get back. more

Do Not Go TO SHOKU 4/3/2006

I want to make it a personal goal to prevent any human being from going to Shoku. My girlfriend and I had wanted to try this restaurant. We got seated, our server came, showed us the wine list, and said she would come back. The server assistant gave us water. We waited for 25 minutes while our server came by a dozen times to check on all the tables around us, take the food order of the table next to us. The We decided to leave. I asked to see the manager. She defended her server telling us she just ""forgot about us"". I was an assistnat manager of a restaurant, a server, and bartender. You do not forget when people are sitting in your section. Perhaps we weren't dressed fancy enough to merrit attention, perhaps my unattractive face scared our server off, either way we were mistreated. Pros: quick seating, attractive staff Cons: ignorant servers, ignorant managers more

Just Average 7/27/2005

We had reservations, but still waited an hr to be seated...Not a child friendly place more

User review by alivein2005 5/13/2005

When my boyfriend and I stepped in the doors of the Shoku restaurant we were truly amazed. Not only were we seated quickly we were greated with a smile by ever staff member of Shoku. We really enjoyed the back bar area. The mood lighting is excellent. The food is awesome, however, it is pricey. The staff are more than willing to answer any and all questions you may have. Over all I have enjoyed my expirence at Shoku & will be there this weekend! Pros: Great atmosphere, Great Wait Staff, awesome decor Cons: Pricey more

Good but Pricy 5/23/2004

Definitely one of the best ambiences for a shushi bar in Columbus. The location is splended (the Banc Bloc in Grandview is a beautiful setting.) However, the portions seem a bit small for the price especially considering there are at least a half dozen sushi restraunts in town that have same or better pricing and bigger portions! Pros: Not Crowded, Good Food more

Angie is Happy 3/12/2003

My girlfriend and I had one of our best dates at this place. The food is great and the people are beautiful. The servers are so hot my girlfriend and I cound not keep our eyes from wondering. The spicy scallops are the best in the city. more

Great Food 3/2/2003

Hey Gang, The food at shoku is serious. I am telling you, this place is not your traditional asian place. I don't eat sushi but the food is a 10. more

BROKERN TRADITION 1/5/2003

YES, WE FINALLY DID IT. WE HEARD ALL ABOUT THESE NEW HIP SUSHI BARS. WE FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO EAT AT ONE LAST FRIDAY. THE RESULT WAS MORE THAN PLEASING. WE LOVE THIS PLACE. more

Wonderful 12/28/2002

I had never tried sushi before I came to Shoku. Let me just tell you, it is the most wonderful food in the entire world. I am now a regular customer. more

Wonderful Experience 10/28/2002

Hey, For all you squares out there in Squareville, try this place. It is a lot of fun and the food maybe the best around. The only issue I had was that the place can be loud. peace out, allen more

I got catchy for you....! 10/28/2002

I feel that the atmospehere is great and the overall feel gives a traditional, but modern feel to it. The is very well prepared from the pea pods to the King crab rolls. Pros: traditional, romanitic, comfortable Cons: no parking, some of the prices more

Just OK 9/11/2002

The food was good, the decor was good, the service was good. But, it wasn't great. Sure, the menu has fun choices like a wrap (aka burrito) with a sukiyaki flavor dipping sauce. And, the sushi list includes fun variations. But, my tuna roll packed a punch with a major dose of wasabi inside; it wasn't successful at hiding the muted flavor of the tuna and seaweed. The waiters and waitresses were constantly passing my table, back and forth. A few touches could make this place great. Cons: Overpriced, Cramped, Uninspiring more

Americanized Japanese Food 8/17/2002

It's okey. I don't mind going back there sometimes. If you agree with me that PF Chang is not authentic Chinese, then Shoku is the same. It's not authentic Japanese, but it's not bad. It's more of gathering and drinking place for young people than enjoying food quietly. more
