Dr. Clipsham is absolutely AMAZING!!! He is everything you could ask for in a vet, and is the only reason I rate Sherman Oaks Vet with a 5. I have provided detailed information f...

I'm Satisfied 10/26/2009

The staff is great with my dog. The front desk is nice, the doctors really seem to care, and the back staff is always quick. I come in every other week with my pug for a nail trim and anal grand expression and it only takes ten, fifteen minutes tops. The guys in the back even put me in a room and showed me the best way to keep Buds ears and eyes clean. They even give him a bath from time to time. They really go out of their way to make my life easier. Pros: Great doctors. Some of the best in town. Cons: A little slow. more

GREEDY AND UNETHICAL 10/22/2009

Do NOT take your pet to Sherman Oaks Vet Group. I have been a customer for years, but unfortunately, I have watched their service and pet care decline over the last couple of years. Individual and personalized pet care used to be their first priority. Now,....it's pocketing your money. I am completely prepared to spend as much money as necessary for the care of my pet. (And they are one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive vets in the area.) I just spent $3000.00 on tests and care. I was fully prepared for this until I learned there was a four hundred dollar test that would have answered the question that $3000 paid for. The vet had no explanation for their behavior or decision making. In addition to this, they shaved half of my cat's fur off and conducted a procedure that I did NOT approve or have knowledge of!!! Imagine my surprise, shock and horror when I learned my cat had been shaved, restrained, and worked on without my approval or knowledge. AND, then they demanded I more

Scanlan Nancy - not board certified in anything 10/10/2009

The DVMs are not board certified in any specialty. Scanlan treats cancer, but she's not an oncologist. EntirelyPets.com has joint supplements cheaper. more

Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group-Dr. Clipsham ROCKS! 10/7/2009

My dog is a patient of Dr. Clipsham's - I have not seen other vets in the practice. Dr. Clipshim is caring, calm and is also the first vet who ever brought up preventative care - my golden takes fish oil daily based on his recommendations. My dog is 'men' skittish, but he takes his time and waits until she approaches him and is ready for the exam. She wouldn't willingly go with him to the lab for a blood draw, he suggested I lead her and allowed me to hold her while the blood was drawn. Called me early the next day with results. The place can be a literal zoo - appointments are key and I always call ahead for medication refills (her thyroid has shut down). My SIL took her very, very ill pound kitty to Dr. Clipsham - he quoted a price to treat, came in at that price and saved the cat - and he had expressed his own doubts over his ability to do so. I'll follow Dr. C whereever he goes. more

A few good apples can't save the barrel 10/6/2009

I've been a client of SOVG for several years, and my opinion of the practice is changing, and not necessarily for the better. My experiences with Drs. Clipsham, Ullman, and Wisely have all been positive. Dr. Clipsham is a genius when it comes to cats!, and takes excellent care of my babies. These three doctors show care and compassion for my pets as if they were their own. With those exceptions, it seems lately that it has become all about the money for most of the others. Pros: Some of the doctors Cons: Most of the front desk more

GREED KILLS! 6/26/2009

Done with SOVG for good! Front Desk pushed me away with their crappy service and horrible attitude (not all, but at least a couple of the girls there are LOSING biz for the owner). Glad they did. Was prepared to pay $1000 - $1500 for a surgery/additional 'needed' procedures to remove some usually benign but potentially harmful growths on my Bulldog. Go to new Doc, who is HIGHLY recommended, with decades-long booming practice. He takes close look at the growths, checks my dog's heart, and says, "It'll cost you about $200. OK?" I give ONE STAR because I think there are some caring physicians. BUT, they're greedy, and they're stupid for leading with little girls at the front desk who are rude to customers. So, one star. more

overpriced!! 6/20/2009

SOOO overpriced but like Drs Richter and Clipshan. I think however, Dr. Clipshan may be more through and loves cats. DOn't like the female drs. Don't ask the front girls questions about your animal because they seem to get simple answers wrong. But like Judy and Jennifer M. more

They will over charge you as much as they can 4/14/2009

I ended up paying $820 for an antibiotic treatment but the first estimate I refused was between $1500 and $2000!My dog was sick and so weak he could barely walk so I took him to the Vet. After waiting for a while, they came back to me with X-Ray results and no clear diagnostic (pending blood test results). They offered an hospitalization for at least $1500 which I declined as I had no clear diagnosis yet and we couldn't spend that much money now. They released the dog for $820, I asked the manager if all these injections, tests, X-Rays (5 in total and they even argued they didn't charge 6), antibiotics (in addition to shots) were really necessary and no surprise, they said yes. The dog was doing perfectly fine the next day (at least they got the treatment right I agree) but still told me he has a serious virus and I should take him back for another exam and blood test. I didn't... more

NEVER!! 3/10/2009

I took my newly adopted puppy there because she had some red spots on her. These spots were not itching, puffy, oozing, nothing. The first time I went in, they said it might be an allergy, they don't know what to. So change her flee medication to what they sell there and they gave her a steroid shot and sent her home with antibiotics and some topical spray. That was $208...and they said if it was still there in 2 weeks, come back. I did not like the thought of a steroid shot but this is my first dog, and I blindly followed their advice. Two weeks later, I go back b/c the spots are still there. They take her to the back to do a skin scraping to see if it's a fungus AND they gave her ANOTHER steroid shot, with out asking if it was ok. I am not happy about this but also not brave enough to stand up for myself or my puppy. They give us two more pills to give her at home and that was $280. We give her the pills...she starts having signs of OVERDOSING! Yes OVERDOSING! She is panting uncontrollably, she starts peeing all over the house, drinking lots of water, not sleeping, and pacing all over. I look the pills up on the internet and it is MORE steroids and some more antibiotics. She is just a puppy! They are just red spots! And the internet site for the steroid they gave her, Prednisone, has a large warning on the page about not using it if you have a fungal infection. Yet they were testing her for a fungal infection?! We called them to complain and they just justified it all. So $500 later, the spots are still there, my puppy has experienced an overdose and I will NEVER go back there again! Pros: none Cons: all more

You think you got ripped go to City Of Angeles and really get screwed 2/16/2009

These people will steal the gold out of your mouth if you fall asleep in the waiting room,There 2 separate sides and they try to pass you back and forth until you have no money ,They act all happy to see you and your pet and after a few times you realize its all about the money as they estimate and then even go over that number .They can be rude at the desk and you hear at least one customer every time complain about the bill.Try calling to ask 1 question they wont help but insist on a visit where you will have a prescription charged triple of anywhere else ,no crap had 1 I pay 100 for from my vet they charged over 300. Search around and don't support these places that pray upon us pet owners more

Good doctors, just stay away away from Dr. MacCray 1/28/2009

Dr.MacCray misdiagnosed my cat and had her overmedicated and doing poorly! Dr. Clipsham immediately picked up on the misdiagnose it and took her off the meds and she's doing beautifully. Pros: Ambience, Parking Cons: Service, Overpriced more

Dr. Clipshan is GREAT. Kind, caring and loves animals l! WOW! 1/16/2009

My Yo-Yo is in kitty heaven now (sniff-sniff) but Dr. Clipshan made it as painless as he could for ME and my baby. If you are looking\r for a kind, caring and loves Vet who actually loves animals - Dr. Clipshan is the VET for you. \r \r Jennifer (very nice) made sure I got to Dr. Clipshan - she's a major cat lover, too. ... Heather is just a sweetie, she let me cry all over her shoulder and showed me such kindness as well. more

Enter at your own risk 12/14/2008

Although I have never taken my animals here for any kind of treatment, I have been in several times to pick up some prescription food for my cats. Its never a good vibe in this place and usually smells unclean. The last time I was in there I waited in line for 20 min with 15 other people before I was finally fed up with the lack of service being provided to the clients. I now get my prescription food at the same place I take my cats. I also found out that Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group has been charging me $4.00 more per small bag of food than everywhere else. There seems to be a real lack of integrity, respect and care at this place and I will no longer go there even to buy cat food. Pros: None that I know of Cons: read the review more

If you have a cat... 7/9/2008

If you have a cat than Dr. Clipsham is your man. After seeing another doctor at the same practice we brought our 4-month-old kitten to see Dr. Clipsham and boy could we tell the difference. You can tell he is a cat person and so could our kitten. He picked her up out of her cage and held her like a baby and she purred. And she usually hates strangers! He obviously loves animals and has our kitten's long-term health and happiness in mind. He took the time to talk to us and he gave us advice and let us ask plenty of questions unlike the last doctor we saw. If you have a cat like us I'd highly recommend going to the Sherman Oaks Vet. Group and asking for Dr. Clipsham. more

I wish it could be no stars 7/1/2008

Be careful going to this place. I have been there twice and both times they charged me for things they didnt do - scratch that - they overcharged me for things they didnt do. The physical exam consists of the vet touching my dogs sides. Didnt look in ears - didnt check temperature - didnt look at teeth - as far as I could see they did nothing at all. \r \r Last time I had my other dog there the expensive 'exam' consisted of the vet sniffing my dogs ear and telling me he might have an ear infection... I was charged for the visit and meds and they recommended a million things that were not needed and very pricey. You would think if they were going to diagnose an ear infection they would at least look in the dogs ear right? He showed no sign of an infection - no soreness or was or anything - I guess this vets nose is greater than modern diagnostics. I am not sure what that was all about except trying to get as much of my money as possible without helping the animal.\r \r I honestly would be w more

These folks are worth every penny. 5/13/2008

I have 2 schipperkes, a mother and a son. The female started gaining weight and within a few months couldn't complete a walk. The vets here diagnosed and treated her correctly and she is now her normal weight and can run as fast as her son. I only wish they could do the same for me.\r \r But it did not stop there. The next year my dog started having headaches. I took her in. They found the pressure in her eye was high and arranged an immediate consult with an eye specialist. It turned out that my dog's optic nerve was under intense pressure and the dog would have gone blind within a few weeks if this had not been diagnosed correctly. As a result, we had an eye operation and she takes drops daily now but she can see. \r \r For that kind of perceptive intelligence this practice has my attention and praise. My dogs are worth everything to me and I need vets who can tell me the truth even when my pocketbook doesn't like it. I know that I get what I pay for and I like what I get. \r For the grea more

Vets are great, front desk is bad 4/19/2008

The vets here have been great. HOWEVER, some of the women at the front desk are incredible rude and condescending. Bonnie at the front desk is the WORST. Do anything you can to avoid dealing with her. She is rude, and will talk down to you if you ask any sort of question. I have considered changing vets simply based on Bonnie's behavior. more

Not So Sure Now 4/15/2008

Most of the doctors are great. Dr Ullman. Wisely and Richter are all very good and helped me alot. I can't say the same about Dr McCray who rushes you along and does'nt listen to anything you have to say. Not a good vet IMHO. I wopuld only ask for the other vets to help you. more

get a clue 4/10/2008

I am not impressed by the people that answer the phone. they put you on hold before youx can say anything. Shelby is the WORST and is nasty, and shorrt. Too bad they have her there to try to help owners and pets. Someone should get a clue about the needs of their clients more
