Sherlock's Baker St. Pub & Grill

I have been to several of the Sherlock's around the state while traveling and they are all a little bit different but wow what a great idea. This place is great. I have a great time every time I step foot in one of these places. The food is great the service is great and how can you beat the specials they have. It is nice to be able to go to a clean inviting environment where the people look great and the atmosphere is all about having a great time. I live near a Sherlock's Pub in Houston and wish we had a Sherlock's with food now! This place rocks. The ""bar"" food is just what you want with a with a beer (or two.) I was in town visiting friends and met them there after work and stayed until midnight! Once you're there, you don't want to leave. I'll go back every time I'm in Austin. It's a unique, fun place. more

Meeting a large group (over 75), but was turned away because I had a sleeves shirt on. ""Too casual"" was the doorman's response. While he did offer to get me a shirt, I declined. Contacting the group organizer to say not to go there again. Also telling all my friends not to go there (native here so that's a big group). Too bad. Completely agree with the person who wrote the review about the terrible way this place is run. I've been there three times and they were clueless each night. They're rude, condescending, and have no clue about their Austin clientele. I have no use for this place and neither should any self-respecting Austinite. Sherlocks is has a very fun atmosphere and a lot of fun people watching. Unfortunatley the servers there cannot figure out how to take an order nor remember one. My friends and I went there one afternoon and our server was switched out 3 times. Each time we have to start with a new tab and waitress and we were only there for 2 hours. When we finally got our 3rd waitress she was unable to remember our order and which credit card was ours. We tried the scotch eggs and quesadillas but they were not worth their inflated price. more

Service, atmosphere, and prices were good - I'd go back. But the food wasn't great (I've eaten a LOT of English bar food, and this food was just ""okay""). The waitstaff was great. Please lose the bathroom attendants. I can get my own towellete from the dispenser, and I don't feel like I need to pay $1 for it. more

Great place UNTIL, time goes on, service went down, attitudes went up. I was turned away after due to my jogging pants, and yet dasiy dukes, flipflops, and gauze like pants welcomed. Their excuse ""didn't know if you just worked out"" as if that mattered, people work out in jeans. I had friends tell me they were turned away, in the day, taking their child there because of smoking. Most recent, my friends b-day party as reluctant as I was on going, I went, for my friend. They kicked out her brother after he had been there a bit no real reason, probably cause he was paying for his drinks, no ruckuss not even drunk, go figure. Needless to say 3 examples of how the pub treats Austinites who have funds to do business. Sherlocks, you guys need to go back to school and take some ""business"" classes. I was turned away at the door for wearing Quick Silver board shorts. My clothing was as nice or nicer than half the people in the place but apparently it wasn't the ""right type"" of clothing! Come On! This is a BAR! You can run your business any way you like but instead of trying to be jerks and embarrass people by turning them away at your door like you are some place special, have the decency to advertise that you have some vain dress code or maybe that you only allow Polos tucked into Dockers with boat shoes, you know, the 80s prep look! I will not be going back there, that is for sure! Nor will the 500 or so people on my e-mail list! Cons: Owned by jerks! more
