Slow service and mediocre food. The chicken seemed fake, the other dishes lacked flavor.

Most Authentic Chinese Food in Washington! 10/7/2011

My husband and I were reluctant to dine at Shanghai Cafe due to several comments stating the negative customer service experience they had had. Fortunately we decided to try it anyway and are SO THANKFUL we did!!! The food is literally the BEST Chinese food in the Puget Sound area. We have brought many of our friends to the restaurant and every single one commented on how amazing the food was. A friend that had lived in China for quite a few years commented that it was the closest to the actual cuisine he had ever had in all of his travels in the US! Despite the negative comments regarding the owner, we have NEVER had a bad experience dining at Shanghai Cafe. We dine here regularly and are quite surprised at the negative comments left. Of course, those that are displeased always tend to leave negative comments as opposed to those who have a good experience though! So....the message? Don't listen to the negative reviews!!! Shanghai Cafe has amazing food and to not dine here is to miss out on a wonderful experience! more

Probably not a great spot for large groups, but food is great! Try the tofu soup thing, any noodle dish is excellent, any dumplings/potstickers dish will be yummy as well. more

Our Favorite Comfort Food Restaurant 11/24/2008

My husband & I have been dining at Shanghai Cafe since 2004 and we go back there regularly; their staff is very personable; their service has always been good. We just love their hand-shaven barley green noodles with chicken; and our other favorite is mu shu pork. We occasionally get their Shanghai rice cake special too. Pros: food Cons: parking more

Ignorant owner used racially insensitive words! 7/16/2008

We went here for Chinese food, particularly the hand made noodles. The noodles were undercooked so we mentioned this to the woman who seated us. The owner shows up at our table and begins yelling at us, including some ugly words referencing our native heritage (we are native people.) This had to be the most awful dining experience of our lives! I mean this guy was calling us things you don't even hear in old John Wayne movies! DO NOT give this man your business!! Cons: The owner insulted our native heritage with some really ugly words more

Extremely offensive behavior by owner 7/12/2008

we went to this place because of their hand made noodles. Well, they were not cooked properly and had a chewy texture. Utterly unappealing. We brought this to the waitresses attention and lo, here comes the owner running out and screaming at us about being ignorant Gwai Lo! we were actually threatened by this behavior so we attempted to leave. Our path was blocked and the owner continued his harangue. We have never seen such incredible behavior. We will never patronize this place again nor should you! Cons: Violent behavior by owner more

Rude owner 5/7/2005

We have frequented this restaurant over the years because the food is delicious and consistently good quality. However, this evening was the last time we are willing to put up with the extremely rude owner. She grabbed our dishes while we were still using them and started to clean the table because we were eating too slowly! We had been there less than an hour and the only reason we weren't done was because we had to wait 35 minutes for the first dish to arrive from the kitchen. I confronted the owner about this and she coldly told me never to return! Please do not support such an establishment because they do not deserve your business if they can be so mean to a loyal customer. Pros: food Cons: rude owner, crowded more

Our Favorite Family Restaurant 5/28/2004

I have probably eaten here 25+ times and always look forward to the next visit. My wife and kids love it as much as I do. The service is consistent and the food is excellent. Even my Italian wife agrees they make the best deep fried squid she has ever eaten. Mu Shu Shrimp is spectacular. I regularly eat in high end restaurants across the country and am always amazed by how much I enjoy this restaurant. I wish they weren't quite as popular with the locals, but I can deal with an occasional short wait! Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Service, Family Run more

Owner has horrible attitude 5/13/2004

My wife, kids, grandmother, and I went to Shanghai Cafe for lunch. I was deeply disappointed with the owner's attitude towards my wheelchair-bound grandmother and our youngest child (who still rides in a stroller). She told our server (in Mandarin) that if our group took up too much room, to ask us to leave. Upon hearing this, we decided to leave. I am shocked by the owner's callousness and would recommend that you not support this restaurant. Cons: , callous owner more

Consistently good noodles 4/23/2004

Like many others who've written reviews of Shanghai Cafe, I'm a fan their noodles. Also, when in season, this is a great place to get sauteed pea vine. Pros: Consistent food, Inexpensive, Near Factoria more

Noodles? Homemade! 7/30/2002

I have never been disappointed at this restaurant. Their sauces are light and flavorful. Their noodles are home-made and very unique. The vegetables are fresh, the servings are large and the food service is prompt. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation! Pros: Inexpensinve Cons: Parking, very small more
