The food is good like all other restaurants, but the service is horrible. i was rushed in ordering, and when my boyfriend asked for another bowl of rice, she said there was a $1 ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/1/2014

I have eaten at a couple Korean BBQ places and they have all been one price and you get unlimited meats. So at the beginning before I order my food I ask to be 100% that I am not going to pay for each plate, I asked the waitress if the plates were unlimited and she assured me that it was. So 6 friends and I ordered our food. We got some plates and they had hair on them, long black strands. We told them about it and they removed the plate just to bring another one back, that was exactly the same plate. \r When we received our check sure enough they charged us for each plate!!!!! I went directly to the manager and told her that I specifically asked the waitress if it was unlimited. She told me that she does not speak good English!! Also that it is not unlimited. She blamed it on us , and then tried to deny me asking her about the unlimited part. Very furious and will never go back there again!!!!! After about 15 minutes of back and forth arguing I paid a portion of the $273.83 bill!!! I took everything on the table in a to-go box. \r \r This is the first time in my life that I have ever left a review on a restaurant!!! more

Worst service ever. 11/11/2010

The only reason I gave a star is because the food is passable. I went with a group of 9 people and they refused to give us refills on the side dishes, when they are supposed to be free. But because our group was too large they did not want to lose the money on extra side dishes. We even offered to pay for the extra orders but since they barely speak any english, they probably didn't understand us and still refused our offer. There was also a maggot in one of our dishes and when pointed out to a server she merely pinched it away and acted as if it was completely normal. They didn't even give us a refill of the dish the maggot was in. Never refilled our waters until we pressed the service button, even though we were the only customers in the building at the time they never waited on us. I'm normally very forgiving and understanding but this was intolerable. I would not have tipped them except gratuity was already included. more

okay food but horrific terrible service from HOSTESS! 7/1/2009

I would never come back to this restaurant again. If you are not Korean and never ate Korean food-please try another restaurant. I admit the food is different and okay. We ordered food and wasnt aware the portion since we've never ordered before but the waitress wasn't helpful because I could not understand her at all. Her accent was so strong therefore it was hard for her to recommend anything to me. When we ask to order more Kim chi the hostess came over to our table and spoke very loudly that we did not order enough food so we can't get Kim chi!!! can you believe how rude she was??? we didn't ask for it to be FREE but was going to pay extra. She was extremely rude and unprofessional!! it completely ruined my dinner. i felt as if she was was already talking behind our backs! I would never recommend the food for the price and never for the rude service! no one deserves it. Pros: food okay Cons: rude hostess/staff, waitress hard to understand more

Good Food, Lacking Service 7/7/2008

This is one of my fave korean restaurants in the area...anything they serve here is great. All of the sides that come with your dine in experience are yummy...I especially love the potatoes, kim chi and the fresh salad they serve. The dumplings and the zuchinni pancake are heavenly...\r My only complaint about this place is that if you don't speak the language or look korean they treat you like you don't belong there. The quickest way to remedy this is to either go with someone who has been before and is therefore familiar with the menu or to KNOW what you want and order quickly. \r I don't ever cook my own meat at the table, but they do have the option if you want the experience of it. Pros: good prices, fresh food, all the sides you get with any order Cons: servers seem to be more friendly to korean diners. more

Best Korean in Houston! 5/28/2008

I have never posted a review before but felt I had to for Seoul Gardens. This place has the most amazing food! I love Korean food and have tried all the rest in Houston but no one tops ths one. The amount of food you get is asstounding. We order for two and feed four. The price is reasonable considering all the food you get, however, it is expensive enough to only bring us in once a month (usually $60 -$70) with alcohol. It is good enough for us to trek 30 miles one way to eat here while there is a Korean BBQ place closer, it does not compare. The service has always been wonderful and I am not Korean so I don't understand why people are saying that if you are not Korean you will not get good service. The only thing I can think of is that the wait staff does not know much English. But they are teaching us Korean. This has never happened to me and I have been eating there once a month for 2 years. In fact, when my 6 yr. old decides he does not like korean because he wanted McDonalds, the waitress brought him out some ice cream so that he would allow us to enjoy our food. I tell everyone to go here! Perfect food and great service. Pros: Wonderful food and service Cons: too far from my house more

Kimchi Chigae cures what ails you 10/19/2007

Not that Seoul Garden needs my help to be a smash. It's good after a night of drinking, it's good when your best friend is sad, it's great on your birthday when you want to woo the man you like. Oh yes. I have been to Seoul Garden repeatedly. The service is authentic Korean, too. At fancy restaurants in Korea, waiters wear fake tuxes and come by your table and bow. At regular old restaurants, you're treated like family. It's nice. Seoul Garden fits that mold. And they've been kind enough to install call buttons on the wall at each table. Did you like the rhyme in that sentence? That's Seoul Garden: delightful at every bite. Pros: Delicious food, and the servers give you space to have a long meal Cons: It's not pricey in comparison to other Korean-American restaurants, but is too expensive to go as often as you'd like. more

Horrible service on several occasions - cancels out the great food 7/27/2007

We went to Seould Garden about eight times during the last four months and only received proper service two of those times. I understand that it gets busy, but there were several times when we would get seated before another party and they would have not only their appetizers but their entrees as well before we even got our drinks. My boyfriend got fed up with the sub-par service and wanted to go somewhere else, but I always insisted that it was no big deal and the food was so good that we should just put up with the poor serivce. After our last visit I will never give them my business again: we went in at 9:25 pm and they close at 10 pm. A server came over to inform us that they were closing and wouldn't seat us. I have never been to a restaurant where they refuse to seat you over 30 mins before close time. I would understand if we showed up at 10 minutes till, but they had plenty of time to serve us. What was exceptionally frustrating was that we were regular customers at this restaurant despite their terrible service. We went across the street to Korea Garden and were seated and received prompt and gracious service. The food at Korea Garden is excellent, too, and we will be going there or to one of the other 8 Korean restaurants on Long Point from now on. more

Great Korean Food 11/14/2006

OK, so I'm not crazy about its location... AND it usually is crowded so you'll have a wait AND then the service is less than desirable PLUS I hate that I smell like Korean food from the smoke after the meal..... BUT, I do love the food there. I've tried several other Korean places in town but I continue to come back to Seoul Garden. The food is always great and I love their side dishes. It's a good place to take a group but not a good idea if you're going for a date or plan to go anywhere after the meal. Your clothes will end up smelling because of all the smoke from the food and in the restaurant. I just wish they had a way to ventilate the area better. Pros: Excellent place to get Korean food Cons: Smoky more

Good 11/6/2006

The ""usual"" Korean BBQ. Table cooking. Very good for Texas. (Meaning, not as good as in LA or NY). Good service. Pros: "As good as 100+ other Korean restaurants in the USA" more

Yummy in Houston! 9/21/2006

I've had better in California but this is the place I go for Korean bbq in Houston. So essentially it's my second favorite place to get Korean bbq. The side dishes are awesome and you don't have to wait long to get those to munch on while you're waiting for the ribs...which is what you should be ordering. There are multiple rib bbq dishes, but just order more than 1 because they are all great!\r \r The service is a little different. If you aren't Korean they won't like you as much, but hey, that's reality. You're there for the bbq anyways...they'll still feed you. It's like any other asian place...if you can speak the language they like you more. either way, you can just tip them less if it bothers you after your fed and satisfied.\r \r Decor: cleaner than other asian restaurants. Never been crowded when I've gone. Nice and quiet. Pros: ribs ribs ribs, side dishes Cons: Prices kind of high but it's good meat, if you aren't korean you get less love more

Good and fun 9/19/2006

This place if fun, especially if you like to cook your own food. I found that the marinated beef and the short ribs are the best. The chicken and pork are a little fatty, in my opinion. The side dishes are really tasty and they refill them for you. The servers don't really come around to ask if you need anything; you have to wave them down if you want more food or drink. more

Best Korean Cuisine 8/1/2006

Unlike the other reviews, I believe Seoul Garden is absolutely delicious. The BBQ is prepared very well. The waiters may not come to check on you, but Seoul Garden often serves large groups and because of that and all the appetizers before the BBQ starts, they end up bringing about thirty dishes to one table. As for the rice review, it should make sense to charge for another bowl; mainly because the bowl is overflowing with rice. And as for dishes being salty, it's Korean food..many of the appetizers are pickled and are supposed to be salty. I would expect that a Korean restaurant run by native Koreans, would be legit. I guess it's all up to taste, but in my opinion none of the terrible reviews were legitimate and Seoul Garden is a hidden treasure!! more

The food is terrible 7/25/2006

The food was too salty. The waitress was not friendly when you ask for anything. The side dishes was too old. I will never come back! Pros: Nothing Cons: Food was too salty. Terrible service more

excellent!! best in houston without a doubt. 7/18/2005

one of the best korean foods i've ever had. bbq and sushi is excellent. no other place in houston comes close...believe me, i've tried the others and they're just 'ok' and some were terrible. i've had plenty of korean food all over the country and even in korea and seoul garden is top notch all around. Pros: very tasty food, very friendly staff Cons: none yet more

GREAT FOOD, I LOVE IT! 5/7/2005

I come to this restaurant on a weekly basis because I just love the food here. I go there so often that I don't even get a menu anymore and I don't even have to place my order...it just comes out 5-10 minutes later. The waitresses are so nice and they are very accomodating. This is a really genuine Korean restaurant - please go try it! Pros: food, service Cons: smoking more

terrible service 1/12/2005

The food is good like all other restaurants, but the service is horrible. i was rushed in ordering, and when my boyfriend asked for another bowl of rice, she said there was a $1 charge and insisted we order more food!! When we refused, she refused to give us more side dishes. There is no customer satisfaction here. more

Korean cuisine is hard to find! 8/3/2002

Korean cuisine seems to be lost among the sea of Chinese and Japanese restaurants in Houston. Though it's only one of two I'm aware of, this restaurant won't disappoint. Make sure to get the kalbi or bulgogi (Korean barbecue) - it's delicious and comes with a variety of side dishes (like kimchee). Plenty of seating for large or small groups. more
