What a wonderful sushi mecca! The fish is incredibly fresh, and the sushi chefs extraordinary. Although the sushi bar only seats 6, it is worth waiting for a seat at the bar. W...

This place needs a new owner. The food and service was terrible and all the while the owner, who is married, was spending all his attention on his lady friend... who he is obvious...

pretentious 4/10/2006

I went to Sebo the second night they were open. Every item on the menu required translation The kind waitress encouraged me to try an amazing glass of sake- when the bill arrived i was shocked to see that it cost $24!!!!! I should have been warned. THe decor is stark. The fish is delicious and fresh but REALLY expensive. The owners claimed that they wanted to open a nice place for the people of the neighborhood. They obviously don't know the hood that well - this place definitely caters to the wealthy shoppers of Hayes. It's a destination point for the wealthy! Pros: fresh fish Cons: expensive, pretentious, bad vibe more

astonishing 4/4/2006

Uhh, someone (may) clearly has an axe to grind, maybe the lack of novelty rolls? We were at Sebo this past friday around 8:30 and it was packed. We had to wait to be seated at the bar. Once seated everything was as spectacular as we had hoped. We had seen the reviews on other sites and were excited to try this new Hayes Valley spot. The service was warm, the quality of the fish was amazing. The best we've had in S.F. Apparently they get their fish flown in from Japan almost daily. Everything we had, items off the menu as well as a few dishes the chefs made on the spot, were incredible. Even the miso soup was great. Definitely hearty homestyle, and hot. Don't miss the exceptional sake list put together by True Sake, the server's recommendations for our meal were perfect. We'll definitely be regulars here. Pros: quality/freshness, ambience, service Cons: parking, hard to find more

We hated it and will never go back 3/30/2006

When we entered Sebo on a Friday night we were impressed by the decor, but surprised to find less than a quarter of the restaurant full. Their flimsy menu included only one type of beer, Orion, which wasnt particularly unique or impressive. Given the bad signs, we decided to play it safe and start with edamame and miso soup, but they couldnt even get these basics right: the miso soup was lukewarm and the edamame didnt have an ounce of salt. The maguro roll with avocado and unagi nigiri were reasonably tasty, but we were relieved we didnt go with the omakase, the chefs selection; we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. My boyfriend went from spry and jovial to queasy and flatulent. If this is what you are seeking for a Friday night, head to Sebo on the double. Pros: ambience Cons: selection, food more

Great New Hayes Valley 3/7/2006

Great atmosphere, superior service, absolutely fresh sashimi from Japan and Hawaii. Unbelievable sake selection and one beer, Orion. One of the best Japanese beers available. A sashimi/sushi selection that may appear limited to some only because the chefs stock only those fish that are the tastiest in this season. Selections will vary as seasons change. Atmosphere is calming, pleasant, and elegant. A dining experience that I will be repeating soon. Pros: FRESH, Service, sake Cons: parking more

the new best Japanese and sushi in the city 3/5/2006

I went there last night and was amazed. I ordered the omakase, which is a 5 or 7 course where the sushi chef serves up the best of the day. It takes a little while but well worth the wait. The sushi was melt in your mouth quality and I felt high halfway through the meal. Very nice and creative combinations! You must try the grilled shiitakes stuffed with yuzu miso hamachi tartare. Excellent! Pros: Fresh, Creative, Service Cons: Price more

Wow. A beautiful mohagany sushi bar, simple wooden tables, low lighting, and an amazing menu. I didn't recognize half the fish on the nigiri list and basically pointed and ordered. Fantastic, the fish was absolutly fresh..even the wasabi tasted authentic. An exciting new mellow spot in Hayes Valley. yay. more
