Excellent food, great service 12/11/2009

I was truly impressed by the service and the taste of food. They have lived up to the name of the restaurant ""Sapor"" which actually means Flavor. The food is simply great and you can relish the distinct flavor of each of the ingredients in the meal! It is worth all the money. more

High Expectations - Low Performance 2/2/2009

I stopped in for a beer and happy hour and was was unimpressed. The prices were right, but the amount of food for the price was way off. I ordered the quesadilla and onion rings (each were $3). The plate of onion rings came very neatly stacked, but there were only 5 rings on the plate and I literally could have eaten the quesadilla in one bite it was so small. In addition, they only had one beer on the happy hour menu. I won't go back for happy hour and I don't think I would eat dinner there either. Pros: easy parking, empy (no problems with getting a table) Cons: everything else more

North Loop 7/25/2007

I have been to this resturand on two seperate occasions. Each time I go I enjoy the food and the service is great. The decor, on the other hand, is pretty lame. This resutrant needs to hire someone to design a resturant that is in line with the North Loop. I swear to god I thought I was at a howard lake or community center resturant and not at an upscale place. Pros: Location Cons: Decor is lame more

Happy hour was OK, but not great. 5/17/2007

My friends and I got together for happy hour drinks and appetizers. Perhaps because everyone was busy with people having their meals at the restaurant, is why we took last place. Our table was sticky and our drinks took a long time and the food was overcooked. So I even though we will not return there for happy hour, I do want to try out their food. Pros: Parking was OK Cons: Busy more

Best lamb I've ever had! 9/23/2006

I really wish I could afford to eat dinner here every weekend. The service was great, the staff was friendly and the food was out of this world! The portions were just perfect, not too much, not too little. My boyfriend had the pork loin on pancakes with a blueberry topping, which looked a little weird but tasted great. I had the lamb which about melted in my mouth. Also, the atmosphere was intimate enough for actual conversation. My only complaint is that the bill came to about 80 dollars for the two of us, but if you have the money, go for it. You won't regret it. Pros: food, service Cons: expense more

More Sapor! 12/8/2005

What a wonderful place. Nutricious and beautiful food. A wine list. Very nice service in an un-hurried and beautiful space. I was suprised by the kale soup, which was wonderful. I had the lamb shank with kale, too. It was excellent. It was like a big Fred Flintstone piece of meat on a bone. I can't wait to go back. Pros: Quality, Service Cons: a little too quiet, no full bar more

C+/B- A dozen better restaurants in town 11/6/2004

Food was pretty bland (even by Minneapolis standards). Service was decent, ambience was an excellent classy but casual contemporary. But in this price range (entrees $19-26), I can think of a dozen better restaurants in town with similar ambience and service and that's why I score Sapor down. Thin wine list as well. Pros: Ambience, Location Cons: , Small Wine List more

Nice Wine Bar 7/6/2004

Sapor is a nice, casual, unassuming wine bar. Wine list is decent and priced well. We ate small plates in the bar (five samplings) and everything was very tasty with the exception of the Wasabi balls. They needed a little something to add flavor - either a sauce or more spice. On a Friday night it was not hard to find parking or get a table in the bar - making it a nice choice for an impromptu dinner. Service was excellent and prices are very good. Two of us had a nice bottle of wine, five appetizers, dessert (did I mention they have great dessert?), champagne with dessert, and got away for less than $100 with tip. Definitely on my repeat list, either as a couple or with a group of friends. Pros: Food, Prices, Service more

Great night out 4/4/2004

I was entertaining friends from out of town, so we picked Sapor out of a listing from the March issue of Mpls/St. Paul Magazine. We all rated the food, service and atmosphere a 10. Dining experience was more like a fine dining experience in Europe, as we were not rushed in the least and our server was professional, discrete, and non-obtrusive. It was fairly quiet for a restaurant, in a peaceful, soothing way. The food was heavy on the protein portions, so if you are on a low-carb diet, this place would serve you well. Everything was very fresh, even the tiny chocolate pieces (home-made), which were to die for. Great place for a business meeting or a special evening with friends. 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, 2 desserts and 2 bottles of wine came to about $162, not including tip, and was a bargain at the price! Pros: Upscale but welcoming, Excellent Food, Warmly professional Cons: , None, None more

Impressed! 9/7/2003

It was a great experience. The staff was well versed in the menu and the extensive wine list. The lounge area is a great place for a drink and appetizers. Predisposed to not like calamari, I was converted by their deliciously prepared version. Someone in kitchen is very talented. The menu options were carefully thought out and the dinner was excellent. If you are looking for a burger and a bud you'll be disappointed, but if you want a superb dinner in a great atmosphere give this place a try. Pros: delicious meal, wine list, service more

Excellent food in a great space 9/5/2003

Sapor offers a menu that is both comforting and eclectic. My favorite entre is the wasabi salmon served on top of a bed of potatoes and mixed veggies. Outstanding taste combinations abound on the menu. They also have some of the tastiest calimari in town. This is probably not the place for anyone with boring tastes that wants simple steak and potatoes, but it is for anyone that enjoys creative and delicious food. The service is always pleasant and the space is big, warm and inviting. We go here often, and I can't wait to get back again. Highly recommended. Pros: Delicious food, Great space, Pleasant service Cons: Parking more

Vertical Food in Minneapolis 2/27/2003

Initially the service was slow, but our waiter made up for it with wit and knowledge of the food. We ordered two appetizers. The first was a lamb special for the night and it was fantastic. A little morsel of lamb perched on stacks of delicate phyllo with black beans paste holding it all together. The second, an orange flower salad, had great dressing, but the greens were bitter. The entree we selected first was sold out, but the lamb that we ended up with was very good. We had a fabulous little creme brulee topped with an orange flower mousse for desert. Top all that off with a great bottle of wine and an digestif near to Port (called Monastrell) and we had a great night of food. Pros: pretty food, amazing flavors, great texture Cons: chilly by the windows, not enough staff more

Hurry!! 10/29/2002

Sapor was everything we expected and more. The restaurant is beautiful and we never felt hurried. I was entertaining a large group from out of town, some from Boston. They raved about the quality too. One word of caution, if you cab it there from a hotel or other venue, remember to ask them to call for a cab shortly before you are ready to leave. Our cabbies don't even know Sapor is there yet and definitely do not cruise for fares in the immediate neighborhood. Cons: locale more

Northside delight... 8/7/2002

Sapor is casual, eclectic dining at it's best in the Twin Cities. After work, Jon and I decided to have a bite. I drive by Sapor everyday on my way to work and have always wanted to try it. The moment I walked in the door i was greeted with smiles and hellos from the bartender and hostest. I sat to wait and had a glass of the featured zin. Ordered some tapas and after Jon had arrived, made our way to the patio. The tapas were spicy and got me appetized. My arctic char special and Jon's aged beef were spectacular. The wine list was short and sweet with some exotic listings. The service was above satisfactory and ambience fun and striking. Try it. Pros: Fun Menu, Great Tapas Cons: Slow Waitstaff more

One of the Cities Finest! 7/30/2002

Sapor has become one of our favorite Mpls restaurants since it first opened its doors. The ambience, the flavor of the food, the extensive wine and beer offerings and the attentive wait staff make us keep on coming back. We can honestly say that there hasn't been a dish we haven't liked ... the calamari is excellent; the salmon entree can't be beat ... and the desserts are wonderful - just the right touch to end the night. Pros: Flavor, Portion Size, Free parking Cons: No bread served more
