Overcharge on my credit card 5/8/2011

I Went back to Samurai Sushi restaurant at Folsom Blvd to claim that they had over-charged my meal charges on my credit card transaction (fortunately I kept the original receipt), but the Lady at the register (I believe she is the owner) did not want to refund the extra charges after I showed her the original receipt along with my credit card statement. She said it's common here customer got double-charges (OMG, It's common), and she has to call her bank first for proof. If so, she asks me to come back to get the $refund without even considering that I have to drive back again to the restaurant for their mistake. What an attitude and customer service.... FOR SURE this is it! ... I WOULD NEVER come back to this restaurant again. They OVER-CHARGED me, and they still deny it. IT'S A FRAUD that I should have reported to the Authority. My recommendation, VERY BE CAREFUL, keep your receipt, and NEVER eat to this restaurant. There are A LOT and MUCH BETTER Japanese restaurant out there. more

STAY AWAY! WORST MANAGEMENT EVER! 8/12/2010

When you enter the restaurant, they show a sample of ""Today's special"" and ""Sushi Special"" and price for each. But nowhere does it say that for ""Today's Special"", the roll that you will get is ""chef's choice"". So you order it assuming that you will get the roll shown and voila! Surprise... mystery roll! I don't eat uncooked rolls and I asked why that wasn't disclosed -- all I got was a shoulder shrug and an attitude. They insist that they cannot change the roll. period. I talked to an older lady behind the register hoping at least that they would acknowledge their short coming in advertising their ""specials"". I even got a worse response. She shrugged her shoulder too saying that ""that's why we offer at 9.99 price"" as if that is enough explanation for their false advertising. You pay less, it's a special, you get what you pay for... my mistake. Never making the mistake in coming back to this restaurant again! Ever. more

Best Sushi chef 8/31/2008

If you love sushi then you must go and see Kevin and Gumba. You not only have the best sushi in town, you also get a pleasant atmosphere. Kevin is one of the best sushi chefs there. We love Samurai Sushi. Pros: Food Cons: non more

samurai sushi 8/14/2008

We drive past Mikuni's to go to Samurai sushi. If you want to be treated right request Justin for a table or sit at the bar and have Steve make you a tasty cocktail and serve you great sushi. If you are a regular you are definitely treated right. If something does not go well ask to speak to the owners and they will make it right. Pros: great bartenders, great food quality, Steve and Justin are awesome Cons: parking can be a problem on busy nights, some wait staff have a hard time with English more

SUSHI TO FILL YOUR CRAVINGS 4/27/2008

My friend and I meet here as often as possible. Justin is their best server and always willing to recommend something new! I have eaten at most of the sushi places in the area, and Samuri is in the top 2. (Samuri and Makuni's are tied, they each have different styles it just depends on what you are in the mood for.) Their salad dressing is to die for! I would say that 98% of the time, I have had excellent service and food! Parking is an issue only during their busiest times. Pros: FRESH FISH, GREAT VARIETY EVEN FOR NON SUSHI LOVERS Cons: PARKING DURING BUSIEST HOURS (IE: FRIDAY NIGHTS) more

Fabulous 2/3/2008

I have never written an online review for a restaurant but this sushi compelled me to do it. From the outside the restaurant doesnt look like anything special, but the atmosphere inside was very appealing, family friendly, helpful staff, and the food was amazing. When I go back to Sacramento I will definitely make sure to stop by again. Pros: Take reservations, nice, quick, tastey Cons: not in a student's buget more

I love Samurai Sushi 2/1/2008

This place is has some really fresh quality fish. Prices are reasonable and the waitstaff is super friendly. People who really know the quality of their fish come to Samurai. That comment below me is obviously written by an novice sushi eater, because if you want to order sushi without sauce then you should order a plain maki roll. I definately reccomend this place. Pros: Great food, Great quality fish Cons: Noisy at times more

Fresh fish but bad service 10/18/2007

This is definitely not the restaurant for a romantic sushi evening. The noise level is very high, so you almost have to shout across the table to be heard. The last three times I have eaten there, I have chosen to sit a table to very bad service results. While the waitstaff is friendly, it leaves much to be desired. We waited over 15 minutes after we sat down before we were able to get someone's attention. Also, our waitress didn't seem to understand that we didn't want sauce or mayo in or on our rolls. I like the fish, not all the stuff they add to disguise the fish's flavor. Pros: Fresh Fish Cons: Bad Service, noise levels more

i'm sure it's great 10/11/2007

i was trying to write a review for a samuria sushi in fresno, i somehow ended up here, sorry if the bad review i posted for the fresno restaurant is still posted. Pros: only sushi in the area Cons: terribly long wait more

Great Unagi 9/16/2007

This place has great sushi rolls. I ordered two different unagi (eel) rolls, both very good. The service was pretty fast, and the staff was friendly. The wait was minimal even during lunch hour. Pros: Good food, good prices Cons: Limited parking more

More than meets the eye 3/3/2007

So I had to drop by the storage place nearby, and after I was done I decided to satisfy my sushi craving at Samurai Sushi. I had my doubts because the restaurant is located right next to a Days Inn, but I was pleasantly suprised. I went on a Sat afternoon and not only was the restaurant much larger than I expected, it was also much busier. All rolls and nigiri pieces I ordered were very fresh and the amaebi(sweet shrimp) was the biggest I've ever been served. The service was great and I really couldn't have asked for a better meal. Pros: Fresh, delicious sushi!!! Friendly service. Cons: Parking is shared with Days Inn, so it may be a problem more

Best Sushi 11/9/2006

Since my husband is a big Chirashi fanatic, no other place can serve it up like Samurai. We have eaten at so many other sushi places in the Sacramento and Bay areas and the Chirashi at Samurai always has generous portions of fresh sashimi and other ingredients. The Maki and Nigiri that I have had there has always been very tasty and delicious! We consider Samurai our favorite sushi place in Sacramento and we recommend this place to all our friends and family members. The service is always great there as well! Pros: Chirashi, Maki and Nigiri....YUM! Cons: Teriyaki Chicken lunch plate more

Very Poor Management 10/26/2006

Six of my co-workers and I went to Samurai for lunch...we usually trade off between Samurai and Mikuni's once per month. Between the seven of us, we frequently spend over $200 (with tax and tip) whenever we go out to sushi. Today, my sushi dish was very bad. Samurai usually has very tasty and fresh sushi, but the way mine was prepared didn't suit my taste buds. There was too much hot sauce and mustard drowning the roll and there was more tobiko than rice. I took one bite and pushed my plate away. A sushi aficionado at our table also tasted the dish and gave it a negative review as well. With one piece of the roll missing, I summoned the waiter, who asked if I would like anything else. I politely declined. A few minutes later, he returned to tell me that his manager refused to take my $9.50 lunch off the bill! I asked him, ""But he's willing to switch it out for something else?"" (thinking that if I have to pay for this horrible meal, I may as well bring something home that I'll eat later), to which he replied, ""No, he said he won't do that either."" Bless this poor waiter's heart, for he tried bringing out some other sushi dishes for me ""on the sly"" to make up for his manager's poor decision-making, but by then I had not only lost my appetite, I was miffed that a restaurant manager would be willing to lose hundreds of dollars per month in business over a meal that costs $9.50! Not to mention the fact that (per marketing research) I am apt to tell AT LEAST 16 people about my horrible experience and also urge people to never eat at Samurai (Mikuni's just over the freeway). I implore you all to ponder for a moment that if this manager is THAT chintzy over a meal, imagine a scenario where he may keep expiring fish, just so that he doesn't lose money on food shrink! I work for a very large corporation and, without a doubt, this manager just did SERIOUS damage to his reputation. I hope it was worth the $9.50, buddy! Pros: The wait staff is very nice, patient, and as helpful as they are allowed to be. Cons: Management should go back to school and take courses regarding customer service and successful business practices. more

Get what you want? 4/18/2006

How bad is it when you go to a restaurant and you find something on the menu that stirs you, only to find out when you order that they do not have it in the kitchen b/c it's too expensive of an item? Or when the flavor of delicate seafood is masked by potent, less-than-stellar sauces? Do you like it when your drinks are neglected and not ever filled during an hour long meal? And do you like it when it comes time for the check and your server is no where to be found to help you fix any errors? This is just a taste of my experience at Samurai. Never again. Cons: Laundry List Menu, Measley Nigiri, Lack of focus by chef more

Fresh Change 1/13/2006

THis place has really good sushi. They have a large selection of unique rolls that have unique combinations and interesting sauces. The rolls are a litte smaller than usual, and if you want your more straight forward sushi rolls, other places might be better. I love sushi, and this is one of my two favaorties. It might be my favorite because it is the best place to get unique, sauce heavy, sushi rolls when I got bored of regular sushi. If you want sashima, hand rolls, or traditional maki, try osaka instead. Overall, it is a must try. Pros: Unique Sushi, Tasty Food Cons: Small portions more

DELISH! 9/29/2005

My boyfriend and I have been regulars for over two years now. I've had sushi all over the country and this is by far the best sushi I've ever tasted. The menu is inventive, the sauces used are divine and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Even though the Ninja Roll is the cheapest roll on the menu, it is a tasty favorite! Also, the sushi special is a notably a great deal for both price and taste. Pros: Inventive menu, Good pricing, Friendly staff Cons: Limited parking more

Great Food!! 7/21/2005

I work down the road from samurai and we eat here for lunch weekly.. so much better than makuni.. and cheaper.. the sushi is always fresh and tastes great!! Pros: food Cons: not enough parking more

best in town 11/12/2004
