First in formost what I LOVE about this salon is how friendly and non-judgemental it is. The last place I went to downtown always made me feel like the people, including stylists there, were judging you...not cool. The staff here is really friendly and talented. The Salon has great services, and a nice vibe inside. Niki does my hair and she is amazing. I've been with her for a long time. I found Niki by asking someone I saw at a restuarant who did her hair because it looked that good! Niki really takes her time with you and gives your hair a lot of attention. She's not only just really skilled at helping shape the best look for you she is also a great conversationalist. I highly recommened Niki and Pangea if you wanna look good!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Niki Shu! I?ve been with Niki for quite some time and we?ve done so much throughout the years. My natural hair color is black and straight. I remember the day I went to her and told her that I wanted to go blonde w/highlights. And asked her what she thought (Niki will tell you the truth) and she said? ?Let?s go for it?. And so we did?. Everyone loves my color! Every time I step out of the salon it never fails? someone will compliment my hair within minutes. Niki has also cut my hair in many different styles - From clean sharp layers to a bob and bangs. She can work magic with scissors! Niki is very professional yet friendly and will listen to you. If you ask her opinion she?ll tell you the truth. So ladies, if you?re looking for a Red Carpet or Runway color/style?. or simply looking for a reputable stylist? then Niki is defiantly the gal to go see!!!! I had been wanting to change up my hairstyle for the last couple months, but I knew I needed to find the right salon. While walking on 17th street, Pangea Salon caught my eye. It looked like an oasis in a concrete jungle. The interior looked warm and inviting. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by a smiling face asking me "how may I help you?" I explained that I wanted to experiment with a new look for the new year. From the window I was drawn in, not only by the setting, but the people within. I had never seen such a diverse group of people in a salon in NYC, which is funny considering NYC is considered the great melting pot...but not when it comes to salons...except of course for Pangea. I knew I wanted to be transformed for 2008, and Tanya Harper, Yurei, and Laura did exactly that. Tanya erased my fear of highlights and now I'm hooked! They look so natural but boy do they pop! They add such dimension to my hair! Yurei gave me exactly what I wanted- a young, fun and daringly short hair cut to match my personality and compliment my face (all the while keeping in mind that I like to wear my hair both straight and curly). And to carry off my new amazing hairstyle, eyebrow guru Laura lived up to her title, by shaping my eyebrows like no one ever has because she listened to what I wanted to keep them thick but with a shape- and she did! The entire experience really was unlike any other. The atmosphere was relaxing, the diversity was intriguing (Tanya being from Barbados, Yurei from Russia, and Laura from Trinidad), and most importantly the talent and willingness to work with me to get the best results. I am not the best with decisions, yet I never felt rushed and their genuine love for what they do really shown through. Not to mention that at Pangea, they believe that hair is hair and no matter the texture they can deliver results- take that coming from a curly girl. Pangea rocked my world! I can't wait to go back! Pros: Professionalism, atmosphere, its just plain great! Cons: Can't associate the word "con" with Pangea...the price is well worth the talent and results! more

Tanya Balon has been doing my hair for well over 10 years and I would never go to anyone else. Every time get a new haircut and styling I walk out feeling and looking fantastic. I've recommended her to several of my friends and acquaintances and they have all had similar experiences. They keep going back too. The salon is a very nice place to finish the day and de-stress. Pros: Very convenient location, nice restaurants close by. Cons: None that I can think of. more

I won't let anyone touch my color except head colorist Tanya Harper -- she is a true artist and I always walk out feeling like a milion bucks, whether I've decided to go bold, subtle, natural, or wild. Leticia is another star, slicing perfect layers, graduated curves, or sharp angles with perfection depending on my wishes, her suggestions, and the trends of the moment. I love the warmth and attention at this unique oasis in Union Square and don't imagine I'll be going anywhere else for a long time coming, as they've definitely made a loyalist out of me! I love this Hair Salon. The owner, Tanya's hospitality makes this place more fantastic. She is a shining star. If you really look for beauty, this is the perfect place to be. more

the first time i went there i got a great haircut and the 2nd time i went there using the same stylist i got a lousy haircut. there were other bad reviews about this person too, but the salon's owner erased them somehow. it was very disappointing. Pros: none Cons: bad skills more

I have found a gem of a stylist in New York City @ Pangea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This incredible artist is Nikki Shu. She listened to what I had to say, gave me her input and I walked out with one of the most AMAZING haircuts I've ever had !!!! so much so that I referred 3 other people who agreed with me and have also enjoyed the magical hands of Nikki Shu. But I must warn you, one of the down sides is that you will be stopped on the street, complimented on your hair - so be prepared to be admired - ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! - make sure to get plenty of cards for friends and strangers. On one of my visits Nikki told me about Laura who is an eyebrow specialist - all I can say is - This gal knows what she's doing!!! From what I understand they are working on becoming a full service Salon and they are looking for true "Specialist"!!!! so far 2 for 2 The atmosphere is friendly, the interior is chic and how wonderful to walk out of a salon feeling and looking GREAT with money left in your pocket to go shopping!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not a place to be overlooked!!!! this from someone who has tried: Elizabeth Arden, Cordelia, Bumble & Bumble, Frederick Fekkai - they were fine but Nikki is like I said earlier - AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! After doing my search and trying to find the best place to get a haircut I finally found it. Pangea Salon provide great customer service and make you feel extremely comfortable. Leticia gave me the best haircut and I love it I highly recommend her!! more

I have fairly curly hair (not super-tight curls, but not waves either) and had always gotten mediocre haircuts that looked great straight, but not-so-much when curly. That being said, Pangea was recommended to me by a friend and I have to say that everyone at the salon is incredible -- the ambience, the service, the expertise. I had my hair cut by Leticia -- who is fabulous! She really listens to what you want and I had brought a picture in for reference of how short I wanted to go. I went from long, mid-back hair to a short chin length cut -- and it looks so awesome! Her technique is fantastic, she's a pleasure to talk to and is really attentive to what you have to say. Allison has been cutting my hair for a few years now, and she does an amazing job. I'm very particular about my hair because I have short, coarse hair which needs to be cut with precision. My style is always sharp and trendy and I always look great when I leave the salon. Charlene is superb with color which is important when you want to stay blonde and look natural. I am thrilled to have found them; I follow them everywhere, and I recommend them to you without reservation. The salon is fun and everyone is helpful and very friendly. Pros: Great location!! more

Niki's been cutting my hair for over 10 years now, and for good reason: She is highly skilled at what she does, very personable and entertaining, and gives me good advice on how I should wear my hair. I always leave after an appointment feeling good about myself and how I look. This new salon Pangea where she now works is super clean, efficient, in a very convenient location, and a very relaxing place to be. I highly recommend it!!!! more

Tanya has been cutting my hair for 8 years. When I moved back to NYC I asked a collegue (whose hair always looked great!) to reccommend a hair dresser. That was my lucky day , and the end of searching. Not only does Tanya cut my hair beautifully. We can discuss styles honestly. She tells me what will look good on me, and what will not. She has given me excellent advise on color, conditioning and mainteneance. She is never 'pushy' about what I should do. Tanya respects were I am with my hair (I don't have the patience to fuss with it). I trust Tanya and my hair always looks good. The Pangea Salon is comfortable, and all the staff are relaxed and friendly. Go there. See Tanya. You will have a fantastic haircut, and a good experience. Denise has been cutting my hair for over 20 years. She is not only my hairstylist, but a friend. Did I mention Denise also cuts my husband's hair? We have followed her everywhere and I could never even think about having anyone else touch my hair. The color and cut are absolutely gorgeous. I consistently receive compliments about how beautiful my hair looks. Denise has a special talent of looking at someone and knowing exactly what would look best. She is honest and trustworthy. Laura truly lives up to the title of ?Eyebrow Guru?. She instinctively knows how to shape eyebrows according to your face structure. I?ve been going to Laura for over 8 years and will never let anyone else touch my eyebrows. She is truly a master at her craft I have always recommended her services and will continue to do so. An added bonus...Laura is very attentive and carining of her clients. more

I have been going to Laura for my brows for ages - I followed her from her last salon and was in a panic when I thought she might leave without letting me know where she was going to. I get comments on the shape of my eyebrows CONSTANTLY. Even friends who I have sent pictures to have pointed out how great my eyebrows look which I thought was interesting - it's the first thing people notice and it's true. Laura Sabessar is the Grand Madam in Eyebrows! She can turn you into a glamour queen just by shaping your eyebrows. Her personality is warm and engaging. Nadine P. has been cutting my hair for 6 years now. I started with her when she was at Sassoon and I've never looked back. More importantly, my hair always looks great. I receive compliments on it all the time. I've even had people stop me on the street and ask me where I go to get my haircut. I always recommend Nadine. My hair has movement and always looks and feels soft. She makes great suggestions and always gives me a cut and a style that is totally me and that suits my lifestyle. She really treats hair like an art form. I love Pangea Salon. The atmosphere is tranquil and friendly. It is easy to get to and right in the heart of a great neighborhood. I've been getting my hair cut by Tanya Balon since 1993, and for good reason. As a man with difficult hair to cut, and what seems to be a constantly receding hairline, who's also very particular, I'm always happy with the work that Tanya does. Tanya and I have tried many different styles over the years, and I am happy with every one of them. She's a fantastic person too! I really like going to Pangea. The overall atmosphere is fantastic and the new lighting has pulled it all together. Can't wait to go back!! Pros: Always friendly, always done right! more

I highly recommend you to make an appoinment at Pangea Salon, and ask for Leticia. Leticia is one of the youngest hair stylist at Pangea Salon, she knows the latest hair styles. Everytime she has given me a haircut, it always comes out perfect.
