First off those of you that complain about runny sauce have clearly never made it. Traditonal sauce is runny/ thin, that is unless you add a ton of cream and or butter or cheat w...

Best Itatilian Food Anywhere!! 7/7/2007

The best Italian Food all around. The service and the menu is real Italian, not Tex.Italian. My wife loves the basil, garlic, and olive oil bread dip, I do too. They even offer you a bib. A great place for families, and the dress is not fancy, but the fancy dressed need not feel uncomfortable. The waiting staff is great, prompt, and attentive, but not too attentive that they become a pest. A great place to eat. more

Josephine's Italian Ristorante 6/29/2006

I took my family here one evening before a ballgame. Parking was easy, but that was the hightlight of our meal. Service was slow and poor, food was overpriced and poor quality. My wife and I had Lasagna (usually a safe bet). It was pitiful. No cheese of any kind (no ricotta), just some overccoked pasta and runny sauce with a few specs of unseasoned hamburger meat. My daughters had a grilled shrimp dish, overcooked shrimp, with overcooked pasta, and runny sauce. There are so many good Italian Restaraunts in Houston, stay away from this place! Pros: Parking Cons: Food and Service more

Seriously Olive Garden has more authentic food! 2/10/2006

I was EXTREMELY disappointed, but as my friend said, it's a restaurant downtown near hotels; they're not looking for repeat customers. The bruschetta was nothing more than chopped tomatos in oil atop toast, so for those who called this place ""authentic,"" they clearly have never been to Italy or to a real Italian restaurant! When I confronted the waiter, he acknowledged other restaurants do serve it properly with fresh basil leaf and mozzarella. Of course it wasn't until he brought our equally disappointing main course that he recognized our distaste for the bruschetta (read: poor service). The pasta was not ""al dente"" but tasted like it had been cooking all day in a vat. The alfredo was watery, and the chicken was not grilled or fresh (read: out of a bag). Seriously folks, stay away. If you want real Italian, with better value and service, you can find it elsewhere! Pros: seated fast Cons: poor service, unauthentic food, poor value more

great food at a great price 11/17/2005

I've had lunch here many times, always with quick service and always satisfiying. Their pizzas are excellent too and take a little more time, but worth the wait. Took an out of town relative for dinner and had an enjoyable meal. Service was attentive, and the entrees the waiter recommended were excellent. Even on a Friday night and with a Rockets game that evening there was little or no wait to be seated. (fyi Toyota center is 1 block away, this is a great place to catch a pre-game meal) The crowd was a good mix of friends, couples and families, with no need to shout to be heard even though the tables are close together. It feels like a real family run restaurant, with friends and family in mind. At least that's my definition of 'ambience'. Pros: great food/service, great prices Cons: if you're looking to, preen and be seen, this isnt your place more

not recommended 11/17/2005

The service was poor all around. It took forever for them to greet us, take our drink order and our dinner order. The waiter mummbled and seemed put out. The wait was long, and the food was shotty. It honesty tasted like a 99cent TV Dinner, and when you pay $10 a plate, thats pretty dissapointing. We actually witnessed 2 other couples walk out because service was slow and unfriendly. I would have rather eaten at a fast food chain. Cons: bad food, bad service, cramped more

Get the alfredo with mushrooms. 9/18/2005

I've only been to Josephine's twice, and both times I've gotten the same entree - the alfredo with mushrooms. Although this doesn't sound particularly fancy, it's excellent. You can tell that the mushrooms are fresh. When I took my family the second time on my birthday, they seemed less impressed with their tomato-based dishes. They gave me a huge piece of Italian cream cake on the house for my birthday, and it was also delicious. It's worth checking out, especially if you get the mushrooms. Pros: Fresh mushrooms Cons: Not consistently good more

User review by litespeed007 7/12/2005

Josephine's is a great place to dine and view the cityscape of the growing Houston skyline. The food is authentic and excellent. The moment you walk in the door you can smell the aroma of fresh garlic which distinguishes itself from other would-be restaurants. On most nights, Josephine visits every table becoming acquainted with her visitors and sometimes sits and chats. Josephine's is like a home away from home. more

josephine's Restaurant 6/18/2004

we definitely recommend josephine's. The waitress could not have been nicer. It was a relaxed and very pleasant atmosphere. The sampler platter was great since it was difficult to decide from the excellent menu. The food was excellent and served promptly. Going downtown feels so special. Pros: excellent food, great service, pleasant atmosphere more

A surprise on the menu 12/29/2003

Belive it or not, try the gumbo. It's not something you'd expect to see on an Italian resaurant's menu, but it turns out that Josephine is apparently from Lousiana. The gumbo is some of the best anywhere. more

* * * TASTED LIKE A BAD TV DINNER * * * 2/27/2003

The chicken parmesan was room temperature and was NOT cooked to order. The sauce for the spaghetti was so runny, but the time the noodle was at your mouth the sauce had all run off back on to the plate. Friendly people, horrendous food. more
