horrible service 6/13/2008

My husband and I used to go to Sakura quite often for the great sushi they serve there. We did a reservation for my husband's birthday, and the host told us it didn't matter that we had reservations, we couldn't be seated at the time. The host was very rude to me when I tried to explain that we did a reservation for a reason, to not wait 50 minutes to be seated. They do have great food, small but good, but it's not worth to us anymore. We discovered other great sushi places, and with friendlier stuff. Pros: good sushi Cons: horrible service, rude staff, crowded, don't respect reservations more

Love everything about it!!! 1/19/2008

I'm a big sushi enthusiast and I must say.... the sushi here is great!!!! even better than a lot of the sushi places I have been to in Chicago. The place is always busy because the food is wonderful, but the seating does not take too long and the people who work there are very friendly, so you really don't mind the wait!!! I definitely go back to this place because I always end up getting a craving for it!!! Pros: the sushi of course! Cons: there are really no cons to this place..... more

Great Sushi 3/13/2006

As a East Coaster who has come to the Midwest really good sushi is hard to find here due to the lack of fresh fish. However Sakura has some of the best sushi I have ever had. I go here once a week with a friend of mine & we love the food. From the appetizers, to the salad, soup & sushi it is all great. However they are extremely busy. We have gone as soon as they have opened and there have been people waiting in their cars to get in. Even if you are going during the week you better make reservations. The service is not horrible but it is not great. It is easy to lose your waitress in this busy place. Parking is also hard to find. Pros: Food Cons: Parking more

Used to be a fan...not anymore 11/15/2005

My boyfriend and I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years. Within the past few years, the sushi trend has made this a popular spot that has been to overrun with ""tourists"" (non-Japanese regulars). The atmosphere is fairly close to what you'd see in a real Japanese restaurant, but, the service is horrible - you rarely see your waitress. And don't bother ordering anything BUT sushi if you sit at the sushi bar. The sushi-chefs are friendly, but everyone else ruins the experience. The sushi is small compared to other places, and the chicken teriyaki is all dark meat. We've been there when they close at 9:30, at 9pm, and gotten nothing but cold food (and we don't mean fresh sushi!). Quite a disappointment. Pros: Location, Celebrity factor, Sushi-chefs Cons: Parking, Noisy, Waitresses more

Definantely make reservations. When we arrived the place was packed. Parking is scarce as well. They did accomdate us by creating a table in the corner for my spouse and me. The wait staff was friendly enough, but we rarely saw them. It took 30minutes for us to get our appetizers, and another 20 minutes to get our dinner. Overall the sushi tasted fresh, and they had one of the best soft shell crab rolls we've tasted. It's worth a look in you live close (15minutes), but not worth the drive if coming from a little farther. Pros: good rolls Cons: crowded, slow service more

Tops for Sushi 10/9/2005

Great Food 11/15/2003

I've been to Japan and I have to say this place is one of the best I've been to in the states. Great Sushi. Don't let the outside apearence of this place fool you. It's really good. It is very authentic, and offers a great variety. I've found though that their food is much tastier at the start of the day around 5:00, however it is still good at night. Pros: authenticty, service, cost Cons: outside apearence more

Best Japanese Food In Indy! 2/7/2003

There's a reason that Indianapolis Monthly keeps rating Sakura as having the best Japanese food in Indianapolis! You had better make reservations on the weekends though, it gets REALLY crowded, the reason that the atmosphere rating is not so high. While you're near Sakura, check out their supermarket around the corner, Sakura Mart. Great place for Japanese imports - from rice and ramen to knick Knacks and mochi. Pros: FOOD, Good Value, Good Variety Cons: Crowded, Hurried Wait Staff more

Good fish, good place 2/3/2003

Good fish, and a good place. A nice place to have dinner. Pros: Good fish more

My Favorite Sushi.... 6/4/2002

I am a sushi fan, and this is the best place in town in my opinion. The fish is always fresh and the service is always good. Pros: Food is excellent Cons: Small in size more
