Do Not Dogs From Russo's 1/18/2012

I purchases an English Bull Dog from Russo's pet . When I purchased him he had a rough spot on his head and I was assured that it was nothing. Well turned out that my Bull Dog had scabies mites and Parasites. I spent over $900 in vet bills. I also have other dogs and had to have them treated for mites as they are very contagious. I submitte my bills letters from my vet to Russo . The replyed 60 days later only to tell me that they were only going to pay me $147. and they were not covering the scabies. Without even examing my dog they made their own diagnosis indicating the my dog had a food alergy to beef. more

Disappointed former customer 9/25/2011

My disappointing experience at Russos was as follows: I purchased a guinea pig at the Spectrum location. At the time of purchase I was told the animal was a male. A few days later I called the store about getting another guinea pig and staff informed me that they order only female guinea pigs at this location but that the gender ""could not be guaranteed."" Thus, I checked my guinea pig's gender and, having purchased what I was told was a male guinea pig, determined that it was in fact female. When I went back to the store to get a second female as a companion I found that this store is housing both male and female guinnea pigs in the same enclosure. Staff stated that the guinea pigs, who are 2 months old are too young to be sexed and would ""really probably"" not get pregnant at 2 months of age. I am saddened that those who are selling these animals are simply misinformed. Check out: cavy spirit's website (a site about guinea pigs) which clearly shows that the gender of guinea pigs can be determined at any time. Additionally, female guinea pigs are sexually mature at about three weeks of age (Barron's Guinea Pigs book-A Complete Pet Owner's Manual, pg 32). After several phone calls and after visiting the store, we obtained permission to return the potentially pregnant female guinea pig and we got our money back. But that is not the point. I don't care about the money, I care about the guinea pigs at this store and am concerned about the lack of basic knowledge about the guinea pigs that are being sold at this location. Thus, I am dissappointed and saddened that males/females are being housed together because those working at the store are uninformed regarding guinnea pigs. I feel badly for those guinea pigs and want to warn others that the staff at this store is not knowledeable about the animals. I am not going to purchase any more animals from this store. more

Love my Dog 3/7/2011

My dog came from Russo's almost 14 years ago! He has been the greatest, healthy, best buddy ever. Nothing but great experiences with Russo's! Please go in and see for yourself and check it out. They have a wonderful staff that will help your every need. more

Great pets, Great people! 3/7/2011

Iv'e done business with Russos for years. Our first dog ""Critter"" was an AKC registered Chow. Super sweet, super healthy, loved by one & all (even our postman on Bal.Isle... Which says a LOT!). Critter lasted nearly 15 years, a long life for a chow. We bought Spot, our lemon Beagle there 6+ years ago and he has been a hoot. Always healthy, makes others around him happy. Russos has responded to my every need. I'm grateful they're there. more

Stop perpetuating this cycle 2/12/2011

This shop is pandering to the society trends of south orange county and is overseen by The Irvine Co. which is nothing short of a monopoly and will never do a thing against these stores due to the business they attract with pure suckers who are lured by cute puppy's in the window, but have not done any research, preparation or self education on what they are supporting. What idiots would throw money at a store that buys all their puppy's from mass puppy mills out of Iowa, with no care to investigate conditions of where there dog is coming from, business principles, or the perpetuating crime of overproducing puppies that have a 80% likelihood of ending up sick, with kennel cough, or hyperglycemia, or ptsd, and will be inevitably surrendered to shelters and breed rescues much of the time. People why are you throwing away thousands of dollars for buying unhealthy puppies and reinforcing this terrible cycle! Stop being OC drones! more

The pets they sell are fine 11/14/2010

The whole anti-pet store movement/trend is getting a bit old now. The animals they sell are fine. People are complaining about the health issues the their animal has, which might as well be the animal they bought from Russo's 3 years prior. Animals are susceptible to sickness, you know. It's not just the pet store's fault. I bought my chinchilla from Russo's three weeks ago and I love him dearly. He's happy and healthy. The only problem I had was with one of the employees working the night I bought him. more

Sells Sick Animals 4/18/2010

My dog comes from this store, we did not buy her, another person did and gave her away! My dog has EPILEPTIC SEIZURES, which is just one of the many sicknesses you will encounter if you buy a dog from a PET STORE! Cons: Sells sick animals, rips off customers more

BEST PETS IN SOUTHERN CALI 3/4/2010

i got my adorable yorkie, Scout, from russo's. it's the best! despite other comments, dogs from chain pet stores aren't the only dogs who become sick. a dog from an adoption center can EASILY become sick, also.so don't let those stupid reviews stop you from buying here. Pros: super nice employees, adorable puppies, petting areas Cons: none! more

for a fun time 2/5/2010

BUYER BEWARE 12/8/2009

I met several people who have bought dogs from this store that ended up ill and resulted in hundreds of dollars worth of vet bills. Through research, they found that their puppies came from a puppy mill in the Midwest where dogs are overbred, inbred and conditions are bleak. The parents have to spend their lives in tiny cages breeding while puppies are shipped away in vans, semis to America's pet stores where they are sold to unassuming customers who pay entirely too much and usually end up with unhealthy, or behaviorally challenged dogs. Don't be part of this cruel cycle. Adopt. Don't shop. Thousands of dogs, all breeds, shapes/sizes, ages are available on petfinder from shelters or rescue groups who are not trying to make profit. more

My Russo Experience 10/18/2009

I already have two dogs (a 2 yr old Staffordshire and 6 year old Toy Poodle) and one cat (2 yr old Mexican Shorthair.) All three were rescue animals. One from the Pasadena SPCA, LA Animal Services and the third was found as a runty flea infested kitten in downtown Los Angeles. Pros: Friendly Staff/Happy Pups and Kitties/Clean Store more

Unhealthy Pets 10/7/2009

My husband and I just purchased a puppy from this store and took it to it's initial vet visit. The dog has kennel cough and parasites, and we have paid out several hundred dollars already in vet bills. We have only had the dog for four days! more

What a Great Pet Store 8/21/2009

This store is one of the happiest pet stores in the southern California area. The pets are always lively and active and appear healthy. The store and employees allow petting to be done in top-open enclosures that are designed for interaction even with younger children, and the employees are friendly, professional and always eager to assist and answer questions. It is one of my favorite pet stores in southern California, and I have no qualms with buying a pet from this store. Pros: Excellent employees, good pet interaction, happy place Cons: Not enough enclosed corrals for petting more

I love this store!! 8/6/2009

Over the past 17 years years we have welcomed into our home 2 cats and 2 dogs from Russo's. We have never gotten a sick or illtempered animal -- only the loves of our lives! I still come in whenever I can to get my puppy fix since my 2 dogs and 1 surviving cat from Russo's are getting a little too old to welcome a new family member. When the time comes, I will not hesitate to bring home my next ""baby"" from Russo's. Pros: I have had only great experiences here Cons: Can't take on another pet right now! more

Stay Away and hopefully they will go out of business 3/31/2009

I work near this place and walk through on occasion. Today i noticed a dog there that they told me had been sold over a month ago and claimed it was 3 and a half months old (which they told me the last time i saw it) and that it had been sick and just got back from the vet. Pros: 0 Cons: Sick puppies more

BUYER BEWARE 3/19/2009

Watch out. I purchased a puppy from this store and it developed PARVO, a life threatening virus. According to their contract they would provide care and this dog was supposed to have a health guarantee. Spoke with Sumi, the manager and she plainly said TOO BAD! There was nothing she was going to do and said the owner would call me. Still no call. $1800.00 Vet bill and no help from the store. Disputing with my credit card company and willing to go to court on this one! Pros: terrible experience Cons: very rude! more

It's not a bad store 3/17/2009

Older puppies can be walked by anyone who has an ID, on weekdays during the day. Has their vet come in and check on the puppies. If people are complaining about the bedding, why don't you guys pitch in and donate beds? Usually puppies are teething and they chew up the bed, so beds are usually washed and the fluff just comes out, so you can't do anything about that. Puppies birthdays and arrival dates are different. Usually puppies don't stay longer than 2 weeks at the store. There are new puppies that comes in every weds. I wish I could buy all the puppies in the store, but I have no money. All the puppies make me feel better. Puppies are usually rotated out and fed during the day. NONE of the puppies are left to starve!!!! Puppies are washed. Puppies bite because they are teething! I too is an animal lover. If you people think this is horrifying, then don't go to pet stores in Asia, you'll probably die of a heart attack. Pros: many types of puppies Cons: mmm.... more

The most awesome Puppy in the World!!! 3/5/2009

We got our tiny Pomeranian at Russo's and she is the BOMB!! She is healthy, super alert and SUPER SUPER smart!! I want to thank the breeders, because she is the most beautiful, special dog ever. She is potty-trained after only 3 weeks (knock on wood, huh?). We were told by many, that small dogs like her would take a year to potty-train, but she caught on real quick. She knew her name in one day and would come when called. She goes wee wee and poos on command, on her weepad and outside - happened within days of owning her. Not to say she hasn't had a few mishaps, but mainly, she goes to her weepad to go. She is very social and loves all people and animals. We cannot go anywhere without nearly every person stopping and ""aweing"" over how cute she is and how good she is. We are very blessed with her and have had a great experience thus far. Each day gets better and better. She is very loyal and a lap dog, so sweet. Thank you!! Pros: The most beautiful puppy in the world!! Cons: Huh? more
