Even the manager was rude! 4/9/2010

Roy's is well located, across from International Plaza. I've been wanting to visit a Roy's because I've always heard how great the food is. I had some colleagues in town and we decided on Roy's; they were able to sit all 22 of us on two side-by-side tables, in a room, away from the larger dining area, which was great. Then came the waitress - 1 for all 22 of us! She was slow, rude, unhappy that we'd ask questions about the menu - great selections, by the way. Pros: Quality of food. Cons: Customer Service. Price. Portions. more

Good original dishes but a bit pricey 1/17/2009

The Tampa's Roy's is like the ones that I have been to in other cities: a very nice place with Roy's unique, good, original dishes and lots of pretty people/expensive cars around. The Roy's Canoe Appetizer for Two is a good way to taste 5 different and interesting appetizers without getting too full before the main course. But, at $ 26.00, it is ridiculously over-priced. I had one of their classic main dishes; the macadamia crusted mahi mahi and my wife had the beef short ribs. The mahi mahi is not really ""crusted"" with macadamia. It's more like ""dusted"", which is a plus in my book. This is a truly unique dish that is tasty, satisfying and not too bad on the waistline. The beef short ribs are rich and flavorful but, given their price and the pretensions of the Roy's chain, taste too much like any old potroast with mashed potatoes . Serving sizes, unlike in many restaurants, are just perfect. Their Hawaiian Martini is an excellent cocktail with just a bit of sweetness and a hint of coconut. I'm not normally a fan of either sweet or coconut in cocktails, but I had two of these. Try one! Roy's is a good place to go once a year or so for something different than the regular, ""nice"" restaurant. For the price, there are other places in Tampa where I would go more often, such as Mise en Place or Mangroves. Pros: Original dishes and cocktails Cons: Price more

way over rated 9/5/2007

the food is over priced. avg. tasting sushi. slow service. not much to chose from on the menu. i went for a birthday party. i must say the private room was very nice and private! i won't go again. the prices for the apps are crazy!! Pros: privacy in the private dining area-fast valet Cons: prices are crazy for the qaulity of food. no good selection more

Great Sashimi! 5/12/2007

Never expected to find great Sushi in Tampa! The quality of Roy's Sashimi is excellent!!! I am a hugh fan of Sashimi and only trust NYC's Sashimi quality, but now I found Roy's in Tampa! maybe little pricey, but maybe its worth it! Great service too! Pros: Sashimi, service, more

Great experience. 10/2/2006

We went there for my girlfriends birthday. We chose the Prix Fixe menu which includes an appetizer, a choice of entree and dessert from a short list for $33 each. A good wine list that was a little on the high side. Plan on spending at least $35 for a drinkable bottle. Impeccable service. One of my most pleasant dining experiences in Tampa Bay in the last few years. Pros: great food and service Cons: wine list was a little pricey. more

Be careful what you ask for 1/4/2006

My husband and I went for the first time last month. The food was very good and the service was great. The only problem we had was when I had asked the waiter to suggest a glass of red wine he told me about a lovely cabernet that was moderately priced. I ordered it and when the bill came it was $22 a glass. I will be sure to ask what moderate means next time!! more

The best restaraunt on PLANET EARTH! 7/16/2005

I have never tasted anything better in my entire life!!! From the moment your car is parked (by a nice gentleman at the valet stand), throughout the whole dining experience - it was simply the best I have ever had! Everybody: servers, managers, everybody who works there treat you like you are their most important guest of the night!!! From the drinks (Hawaiian martini recommended) through the appetizers and entrees, till the last drop of the desert (Chocolate soufflé!!!!), this is so astounding! I love the fact that they even serve sushi! Their chef makes impossibly delicious sauces for your fish; it is just simply out of this world. HIGHLY recommended! Perfect for a DATE - to impress! Pros: Perfect! Cons: Perfect! more

Best Restaurant in Tampa 5/20/2005

I have eaten here many times and enjoyed it time after time. more

Wonderful dinner 9/18/2004

My husband and I just went to Roy's for the first time and would definately recommend this restaurant. They now have a sushi menu with a Hawaiian flair that was very impressive. The menu itself is changed daily and had a great selection of seafood and beef. The chocolate souffle was outstanding. The wine menuwas extensive and included a price range for everyone. The only complaint was the noise level was very high and it was difficult to carry on a conversation. more
